A Luna one shot based off the incredible song Birthday Cake by Dylan Conrique.
Ginny came into her best friends room. She found the fifteen-year-old Luna Lovegood with her face in her pillow holding a picture. Ginny sighed softly and sat down at the edge of the bed. "Luna are you coming?" a mumble rose from the pillow. Ginny took a deep breath and said softly. "Harry told me he sent you that picture of your mom he found." Muffed sobs rose from the pillow. Ginny had been afraid of this. Harry, oh that oblivious dummy, had sent the picture at the worst possible time, the anniversary of Pandora's death. She had died in a potions accident when Luna was nine and she had never fully recovered. Things like this tended to put Luna into a deep depression that could take weeks to recover from. Most of time she covered her pain with an air of insanity acting like nothing in the world could hurt her because she didn't acknowledge anything. " You know if Harry could see you, he would be trying to hurt himself because of this, right?" Luna, letting out a little whimper, nodded into her pillow which would have been funny in a different setting. Harry Potter had shocked everyone he knew and fallen head over heals for Luna, well everyone but Ginny. She had seen him falling quickly for her best friend, Luna had been prepared to move him towards Ginny, in her self-sacrificing way. Ginny had refused, as much as that had hurt her, her best friend deserved the world and more, and so did Harry. " Do you remember what your father said about your mother? That time you had a panic attack?" Ginny saw Luna shift slightly. "She would want you to live like the worlds on fire." Ginny recited from memory she could hear Luna quietly crying but she knew she was making an impact "Want you to love like hearts don't break." Ginny felt tears pricking her eyes now as Luna was openly crying now. "Never look down when you walk the wire." At this point she had wrapped her friend in a tight hug as she sobbed. Ginny knew the storm had passed when Luna pulled back. "She loved you so much Luna, what was it she said, to the moon and back? She wouldn't want you to stay in your room forever right?" Luna nodded, her eyes red. " Now come on Harry is coming in a little while and I know he will want to see you." "Just a minute." Ginny smiled as Luna spoke for the first time. Ginny rose and left the room. As Luna made a frame, she slid the picture in. She felt tears again but this time they were happier. "Don't worry Mommy I'll keep trying." She wiped her eyes and left the room. A new picture sat on the sill, a young blond woman waving.
