A/N: Let's dive right in.
I look towards Jeanne, whose body is still. In a form akin to sleep except being able to be aware It's a good thing I told her to rest, I can recharge my mana faster. I look towards the forest to observe the beauty. There are some forest creatures. I noticed something out of place...a glint of light. It must be the sun... I then look at my pocket watch to check the time to see that it's three in the morning. Nowhere near sunrise...that means that those are lights! I look again to see it coming closer.
"-psst- wake up," I whisper to Frank. He doesn't respond so I punch his face. He responds by muttering something. I punch him harder.
"WHA-" I shush him. He seems drowsy still, but attentive.
"I saw some lights," I quietly tell him. He then slaps himself out of drowsiness. He's now super focused. He seems to have figured out what it means.
"I'll wake the others and inform them. Go inform Avenger," he replies. He makes a portal to consume less time at waking them up. Then, he punches the others all at once by creating portals near each of their stomachs. Meanwhile, I crawl to Avenger. The noise I hear is hilarious.
"Hey, wake up," I whisper to her instead of punching her.
"...," she doesn't respond. She must still be asleep.
"Avenger, wake up, we need a servant right about now," I tell her quietly.
"...," no response whatsoever. That's worrying me. I try a different approach. I nudge her slightly.
"...," she still doesn't respond. Something is wrong. I guess I'll have to use one of those.
"...By this command spell, I order you to wake up!" I say
"-huh- Master!" she replied quietly.
"Quiet down... we'll talk later. Right now, I need you to get ready for battle," I tell her quietly. I look around the area and see the soldiers coming closer to camp. We ran back and I got the weapon I was looking for.
"Alright everyone, throw grenades to distract them or kill one with one to do the same. Then, use the opportunity to attack with the blades given to each of you. Avenger...go wild," I order. They immediately spread out. Meanwhile, I pull out the project I've been working on.
This unique weapon is one of a kind. It's a sword of flame. I cooled it with the blood of Surtr, put a phoenix feather in the hilt's metal, at least a particle of metal from each shrine dedicated to a fire deity. All of this created what I think is the most powerful weapon of flames. Its blade was made to be able to deflect blows and be offensive. It has a chain attached to it making it even more offensive/defensive. Truly the work of a five-thousand-year-old family.
As I pull it out, the blade ignites into a bright flame. I start to look for the soldiers. I see a flame from the enemy side. Flamethrowers. Seems like we pissed off the wrong army but we wouldn't leave those bodies without thinking we could take them on. I ignited a nearby bush to cause a little... distraction.
Some enemies start shooting at the area around the flames. I walk forward with my sword in hand. I use myself and the flames as a distraction while the others eliminate the enemy. I hear a sword slashing against flesh. After that, my eyes felt heavy and I closed them.
When I opened them, my surroundings were different. I noticed almost immediately that I was unarmed. What I could see was the sun, an empty throne, and some flowers in the distance. I went and picked a flower for it to only crumble slowly into ash. I walked towards the throne. I contemplated whether to sit on it or not. Screw it. I sit down and nothing happens. I expected more.
"There is more," something said as my vision went red. I feel a strong presence. I look around to see nothing. Suddenly a massive pain is felt in my chest. I see the sword that I created impaling me. My vision goes black.
I wake up and hear an engine's rumble. I seem to be in a car. Even though my eyes are open all I see is black. Hold on a second. I push the thing from my face. I knew it.
"Chicken the heck you doing near my face!?" I ask in an annoyed tone.
I SLEEP ONLY IN THE MOST PREMIUM OF PLACES! He said, very much like a snob. I'm just going to ignore him. I sit up to notice that Avenger and Will were silent.
"Avenger, status report,"
"You want the long version or the short version?" I pondered over the options and decided.
"Short."
"You went on a rampage akin to a berserker. Burning most of the forest to the ground with the enemy. Of course, you didn't get all the glory. We got some Germans as well. Anyway, you then passed out before any more damage was done. We stole two enemy vehicles and put you in the backseat."
"Alright," I then check myself to see if I have my weapons. I get the sword and-
"By the way, what do we do when we hit a german checkpoint?" Will said as he was driving.
"..."
"..."
"Well darn!" I say with frustration and an overjoyed smile.
"I'm messing with you. I was able to snag an identification card from a soldier I killed and so did the others. I set up my magic to make us appear identical to these soldiers," Will responded smugly. Some of these magical abilities are very useful in situations like these.
Two days later...
After crossing a border and dodging a navy on the channel, we finally arrived in London. When we got to London, we went our separate ways. Each member of the section went to their place. Avenger and I did the same. The place has a single bedroom, a kitchen, a living, a supply room, and an armory. You know, just your average vacation home. This place was given to me by my uncle when I was going to clocktower but now it's only used when I'm operating in the British isles. I walk to the kitchen.
"It's been a while since I've been here. I'm feeling hungry, want anything?" I say while looking through the refrigerator.
"I don't need it nor do I care."
"How about a classic that I enjoy, fish and chips."
"No," she harshly responds.
"Come on," I say as I try to persuade her.
"No," she continues to persist.
"Come on," I continue to try to persuade her.
"If you continue to be this insistent you give me no choice but to accept," she replies hesitantly as she pouts.
"Just you wait, my cooking will leave you wanting more!" I state arrogantly. It took about ten minutes to cook which means I'm slower, it usually took five. Anyway, when Avenger took a bite of it, I was satisfied with the smile on her face. Even though she noticed me and got mad.
The next day...
I got a letter from the Association to go to Clocktower. It says I have to go to a meeting or something akin to that. I"m currently in Clocktower trying to give the Association the damn files they asked for. Avenger is guarding me in spirit form.
"I can take those off your hand's boy," I hear a familiar pompous voice. I look to see the person I least expected.
"Good afternoon, Lord Argius. I thought you would be in a meeting right now. That is why I thought to turn these files into your assistant." I report to him. This isn't the first time I haven't called him uncle, heck he refuses to be called that ever since I was a kid. Ever since my parents died he and I have had a... special relationship. He's made me live by myself to hone my magecraft, attend clocktower to expand my fields of magic, and made me do everything by myself all my life. I had to hunt to eat, build to keep warm, and even kill to make money. What even am I to him? A tool? Or a weapon?
"No need to explain yourself. Come now, the meeting is about to begin."
"Of course," I follow him down a hall. Wait...why am I going with him to a meeting.
"Lord Argius, I would like to know why I am going to a meeting with you?" I ask while confused.
"You are a master now, you represent the Mages Association. We are going to a political meeting about how the masters of the allied countries need to unite against the axis. This is a very important meeting so remember what I taught you," he tells me in a somewhat proud manner.
"Of course, Lord Argius," I respond in a gentlemanly voice.
"I remember when you didn't have a speck of manners but look at you now. You've become a refined gentleman," he compliments me. That feels weird coming out of his mouth.
What do you think of this situation Avenger? I say in my mind.
I can just tell by how he talks that this man is scheming, she informs me. She has some suspicion about him.
When is he not? I'm always on guard around him and so should you, I warn her about him. She seems to have understood.
"We have arrived now prepare yourself boy, for this is going to be a long meeting," he utters dreadfully because this isn't the first meeting that is this high stakes. It could also be that he is very tired of hearing the same political garbage.
I enter to see four other individuals of most likely high status. I can feel a strong mystery in the air. It vibrates through my skin like a virus. I flinch in response to my senses. This feeling would only come through if there was the most powerful form of familiar here, a servant.
I take the empty seat and admire the scenery. It beamed power and elegance: The walls a wooden finish with carvings of pillars, the ceiling having the current nobles magic crests made into a tapestry, the floor a pearl white marble.
I look towards the other magi. Two of them are blond women while the two other men have black and brown hair respectively. The women had elegant dresses while the men wore suits. It's a good thing I only ever come to Clocktower in a suit.
"Good Afternoon, Masters of Britain, Finland, and France. I would like to thank you for coming to this meeting and for representing your country. We are here today to discuss the joint alliance between our nations to win the holy grail war. You will all be paid handsomely if you agree. If you are wondering who I am, I am a representative of the Mage's Association that will speak to the leaders of the countries. Who would like to start?"
"I Inkeri Edelfelt represent Finland along with my sister Aliisa Edelfelt. We would like to state that Finland is going to maintain its neutrality. This would mean that Finland will not support your allies. However, we will still be willing to trade resources and weapons. Although Finland says this, it will send us, the Edelfelt sisters, to assist your future operations." she sat down quietly. The representative was typing as she spoke it seems.
"Thank you for providing this information. What is it that you have to provide representative of France?"
"As you all already know, France has had close-" I started to tune this out. This was getting boring real fast. I'd rather be on a battlefield than planning for it. My eyes started to look for something interesting. I then started to notice Inkeri Edelfelt. Do I know her from somewhere? She seemed very familiar. I then heard silence. There was no talking. What was my line? My uncle handed me a piece of paper that had what I needed to say.
"Representative of Britain?"
"We are currently leading the assault against the axis powers so you would have come to the conclusion that we accept. I, Mason Argius, shall be the one leading the charge into Japan. This operation will take approximately two years if all plans go accordingly. We shall leave in two weeks.
Footsteps of soldiers come towards a clearing. They discover...remains of similar attire. Their attire shows that they were lower ranking. Their helmets come off in respect of their fallen. The fallen seem to have been turned to ash, but their torn uniform is still intact.
"So...this is what happened to the scouting party," the member of the section replies in
"What should we do, Section leader?"
"Report to the General about this discovery and tell him that everyone in the castle was killed. Throw the ashes in the river."
"Understood."
"Now let's see what this one has to say?" the Nazi Section leader directs to someone taken prisoner.
