Devlyn Pradel sat only in a crowded park. The Empire state building looming above her. She chewed her piece of stale bread. Why did the voice bring her here, she had no idea, all she knew was she could not stay here. People were already giving her funny looks, that happens alot when you have been living on the streets for six month, but in that time Devlyn had gone across the entire country dodging the police and people. She was about to get up and leave, she needed to find a place to sleep, when she heard a noise, like a barking dog, but the sound sent a chill up her spine. She knew that bark, then she saw them. three large black dogs, with sharp claws and teeth, but there was a boy chasing after them. She knew what these dogs could do, this boy was going to get himself killed. Instead of running away like any person with snice would do she ran towards the towarding, killer dogs.
Devlyn had no weapons, but a rock she had sharped, but she could disable the dogs. The boy looked at her with wide green eyes, "what are you doing?" he asked, he looked eighteen, made nightteen, way older than her. He had shaggy, black hair, and he wore jeans and, despite it being winter, an Orange T-shirt. "Saving your sorry butt," she yelled at him. He looked at her stunned, he pulled a pen out of his pocket, only around the pen there was a fuzzy illusion of a sword. Then it became a sword, "suit yourself and try not to get killed," he told her, "same for you" Devlyn snapped back, and the first dog barrelled down on her.
Devlyn thrusted upward into the beast's jaws, there was a sickening cracking noise. The dog staggered back, mouth hanging open. She had broken its jaw, now it was biteless. Devlyn took this opportunity to charge it herself, she vaulted onto the dog's back. It growled and tried to buck her off, but she had lashed her arms around the things neck. Devlyn pulled back as hard as she could, and the dog started choking. It rose up onto it forpaws trying to shake her off, but she had firmly lashed herself to it. Not too long later the dog collapsed. She took her rock and smashed it into the dog's head, and it exploded into yellow dust.
The boy looked wide eyed at her "what?" Devlyn snarled, "you made it turn into dust," he said amazed. Devlyn blinked "they always turn into dust," "no, they don't" he nodded over to the two he had killed, and she watched as their bodys turned into shadows and faded away. "Whenever I kill them they turn to smoke," Devlyn said shocked, "you have seen more?" the boy asked, "yes, they have been attacking me for a long time now." Devlyn told him, "where is your house? Your family?" he asked Devlyn turned to run "wait, just tell me your name" she turned and sighed "if I told you my name would you turn me in?" he looked at her confused "no" he told her at last, "My name is Devlyn Pradel, am the runaway that was never found."
After the shock of Devlyns name settled, and the boy stopped gapping at her, he said "you have to come with me," "no I am not going the police station" she told him, "no I will take you somewhere where they won't find you, do you trust me." The answer to that question was no, but if this boy could take her somewhere safe, "come" she told him, he looked at her confused, "come on" she yelled back at him. She took him to the park bench, the one she sat at all day, "what are we doing," "be quiet" she snapped back at him "why" he asked "just do it" she said frustrated he did. She consorted and went into a space in her mind. "Hello" she called, "what do you need" said a voice, "I came to ask you if I can trust that boy" Devlyn said to nothing "yes, you can, let him lead you to the safe place then we can talk again," it said "Devlyn shot back into her body, she smiled "before you take me anywhere you got to tell me your name." He nodded "my name is Percy Jackson and the place I am taking you is Camp Half-Blood."
