Chapter Two

A week later, it was the night of the prom, and April decided to get ready at the turtle's lair, since she considered the turtles her best friends and almost honoured brothers, she thought it was the best place, then she would meet with her father topside so he could take her to the ball.

Of course, much to Donatello's displeasure she had asked Casey to the prom, and he had said yes.

The other turtles were pleased for her, although Raphael was a little bit sceptical about Casey, whether he would take the Prom seriously.

As long as he knew the kid, he was always never without his hockey gear and always making a joke of everything, but he did hope he would take this seriously, as April was excited about this night.

When April arrived with her dress and make up, Donatello once again let her use his room so she could get herself ready.

He still couldn't help the disappointment welling in his belly, that he couldn't go with her, he wanted to ask the question that if she didn't have a date, and if he was a human, could he? But he didn't dare, the last thing he wanted was to upset or creep his crush out.

He could hear April singing a sweet song as she was getting herself ready, and he couldn't wait to see what she looked like.

After about half an hour, the door opened, and all the turtles and Splinter gasped.

Donatello almost went weak in the knees at what he saw.

April was dressed in her beautiful golden gown with matching bolero, she had let her hair loose from it's usual up do, and curled it, she was wearing a little bit of make up with included foundation, and some eyeshadow and she had a light pink lipstick on her lips.

Around her neck she wore a gold locket, and she also wore champagne-coloured gloves up to her elbows with a sparkling golden purse.

Also, on her right wrist she had a corsage of white flowers, a tradition for girls to wear at prom.

Giving a twirl, April smiled at the turtles and Splinter.

"So?" she asked hopefully, batting her eyes "What do you think?"

No-one spoke for a moment as they drank in April's prom look, the way she held herself, rather than her casual wear when fighting, or studying, she looked happy, relaxed and so full of excitement.

"Stunning!" Leonardo said.

"True Belle of the Ball!" Raphael cheered.

"Fairest of them all!" Michelangelo swooned.

"So…. beautiful…" Donatello breathed as he blinked.

"Cinderella ready for the ball!" Splinter smiled "My dear April, I have no doubt you will be most lovely of all the girls at the prom, and Casey will believe he is the luckiest boy in New York!"

Donatello swallowed hard when he heard Casey's name and forced back a slight growl.

April looked to him and smiled to which Donatello instantly straightened up.

"You look stunning April!" he said with a forced smile "Casey's a lucky guy."

April blushed and waked over.

"Aww thanks Donnie!" she smiled then reached up and kissed Donatello's cheek.

As she did that, Donatello went very pink and he nearly stumbled, yet he kept himself together.

"Well, you best not dally." He said in the most upbeat voice he could muster "Shall I accompany you to the surface to meet your dad?"

"Why thank you Donnie!" April smiled "That would be lovely!"

Donatello grinned and held out his arm to which April took it, and they began to walk to the exit of the lair and topside.

"Awww, you too look so cute together!" Michelangelo called after them to which Donatello blushed again, as did April who chuckled awkwardly.

After five minutes they made it to the surface where Kirby O'Neil was waiting by his car to escort April to the prom.

No sooner did he see his daughter than Kirby smiled with a tear in his eye.

"Awww, my beautiful baby girl!" he cried "You look so beautiful!"

He walked over and hugged April who walked over and embraced her father back.

"You look so beautiful April!" he breathed "Just think, only sixteen years ago you were just a little girl, dancing on my toes, and now look at you! All grown up and ready for the best night of your life!"

"Awww dad!" April gushed as she went pink then turned to Donatello who stayed hidden in the shadows, but she blew him a kiss.

"Wish me luck Donnie!" she called.

"Good luck!" Donatello called back as he waved "Have a lovely night!"

Kirby mouthed thank you to the turtle and waved, and April smiled at Donatello before she was helped into the car by her father, then Donatello watched as they car drove away into the city towards where the prom was taking place.

After the car had disappeared around the corner, Donatello lingered for a moment, still feeling saddened then turned to walk back to the lair.

A little while later, after some mandatory training, the turtles were watching a film on the television whilst Splinter was resting in his quarters.

Michelangelo as usual was munching some popcorn whilst Leonardo and Raphael were sharing a pizza.

Donatello just sat behind them and stared at the screen, yet his mind was elsewhere.

He kept thinking of April in her dress, looking so stunning.

It had been over two hours since he had seen her drive off with her dad to the prom, and he still couldn't push away that feeling in his belly, and that longing that he could have been April's date, even if it was just for one day.

Training earlier did help, as he focused on his fighting and was able to get rid of some energy, but now that he was showered and relaxed, those feelings were returning and he couldn't concentrate on the film, nor on his food as he hadn't helped himself to any popcorn or pizza.

Unable to sit still, Donatello jumped up and began to walk off.

"You okay Donnie?" Leonardo asked.

"I'm fine." Donatello huffed "I just, I just need to get outside for a while, okay?"

Raphael cocked his head on one side curiously and Michelangelo smirked.

"Feeling a little jeal…." The youngest turtle began but Raphael knocked him on the head with the hilt of his sai.

"Ow!" Michelangelo yelped.

"Be quiet Mikey!" Leonardo growled.

Michelangelo was appalled as he looked at his older brother, but Leonardo gave him that look which said 'Don't-even-think-about-it!'

Raphael nodded at Leonardo in gratitude then stepped over to Donatello.

He along with his other brothers knew of his crush on April and they did tease him about it, but seeing his younger brother's demeanour, this wasn't a good time for teasing, and he could tell Donatello was feeling upset, so he decided to talk to him.

He grabbed Donatello's shell and the brainy turtle turned to face him.

"What?" he demanded.

"Look Donnie." Raphael said, "I'm not gonna tease you now, neither is Leo, or Mikey!" so saying he glared at Mikey who was biting his lip.

He looked back at Donatello.

"We can tell you're upset, we know how you feel about April, but you know that she won't go out with you, as much as we would give you our blessing if it would ever happen, but you gotta remember, she's human, you're a mutant turtle."

"I know." Donatello sighed "But if only we could date, if only I could be her boyfriend, if it were possible, if she accepted me."

Raphael lowered his head sadly.

He often felt angry the world above didn't accept mutants, seeing them as monsters and outcasts, and even though he and his brothers performed good deeds above in protecting the city, not just from the Kraang and the Foot, but also the other crimes and wrong doings, he felt angered they were never thanked or acknowledged.

"I know brother!" he patted Donatello's shell "I know, but just know this, even if you and April could never be together, be grateful she loves you as a friend, and she knows you'll always be there for her!"

He smiled softly at Donatello and the brainy turtle gave a weak smile back.

"Thanks Raph." He said patting Raphael's shoulder.

"Anytime!" Raphael winked then stepped back.

"Stay safe out there, won't you?" Leonardo called over as Donatello walked to the exit of the lair "And make sure your T-Phone is activated!"

"I will!" Donatello called back "I'll be back later, once I've cleared my head!"

The other turtles watched him leave the lair then looked at each other.

"Well done, Raph." Leonardo praised Raphael as he sat back down.

Michelangelo said nothing as he turned to the television, feeling slightly guilty that was about to tease Donatello when he really felt disheartened.

"I hope he'll be alright." He said under his breath.

Up topside, Donatello ran across the rooftops, hoping the fresh air and run would help him, but no matter how fast he ran, he couldn't run away from his feelings.

The sight of April in her gown was still fresh in his mind, and he wanted nothing but to dance with her, and tell her how beautiful she looked and admit his feelings to her.

Compared to Casey, in his mind, he was a prince, he would treat April well, and look after her, and take her seriously.

Casey was nothing like him, never took his studies seriously, never took anything seriously as far as he was concerned.

"If only I was human." Donatello thought "Man! I'd give that Casey a few lessons on how to be a perfect guy to April! And I could watch him glower with jealously as April realises I could treat her better than him!"

He sighed again as he slid to a stop on a rooftop and sat down for a rest.

As he rested, Donatello thought again about what Raphael said.

It was true, April loved him, but as a friend, and he took comfort in the knowledge that April knew he would be there for her, and she appreciated him.

But he still wished with all his being that he could be something more, but he would have to accept it, he was a mutant turtle, and she was human, and they could never be together.

As Donatello continued to sit there, letting his feelings swim in his soul, his ninja senses picked up something.

Narrowing his eyes, the turtle held his breath and he heard what sounded out a scream, a female scream.

He stood up and started to run towards the sound, he knew that sound anywhere, a cry for help, and he would never let a distressed soul go unheard.

As he got closer, it got clearer, and he soon came to the source.

He arrived at an alleyway where he saw a dark-haired woman in her thirties wearing punk rock gear, a purple mohawk and a few piercings in her face, being harassed by three male Purple Dragons.

Donatello glared as he saw these three cowardly men picking on a vulnerable woman and without hesitation, he jumped down into the alleyway twirling his bo staff.

As he landed in the alley-way making his presence known, the Purple Dragons turned away from their victim and saw him.

"It's one of those turtles!" the first one shouted.

"Get him!" the second one yelled.

The third man still kept hold of the struggling woman as his comrades went for Donatello who spun his staff and struck them down.

One of the thugs jumped up but Donatello kicked him backwards into some dustbins and turned to the other thug before slamming his bo staff into his chest.

The turtle then turned to the third man with his hostage and thrust his staff at his face making him recoil back into the wall.

No sooner did that happen than the fallen thugs got up.

"Let's get out of here!" the first one shouted as he ran out of the alleyway.

"Wait for us!" the other two shouted, the third trying to nurse a bloody nose as he tried to follow his comrades.

Before long, the thugs had vanished, and Donatello put his staff back on his back and turned to the woman who was looking up at him in shock from the ground.

"Are you alright?" Donatello asked.

"Y…y…yes." the woman replied, "I'm okay…thank you…."

Donatello held out his hand to the woman, who took it and Donatello pulled her to her feet.

"Who are you?" the woman asked, "So I can thank my rescuer?"

"Umm, Donatello!" Donatello replied without thinking.

"Donatello, thank you, for saving me!" the woman replied.

Donatello beamed, feeling rather uplifted he was being thanked by a human stranger who didn't seem scared by his appearance.

"How can I ever repay you?" the woman asked.

Donatello raised an eyebrow.

"Repay me?" he asked surprised.

"Surely you must have some reward for saving me." The woman smiled "No good deed goes without a reward."

"Oh, it's fine really!" Donatello raised his hands "There's nothing I could possibly ask you for."

The woman smiled.

"Oh, I'm sure there is something." She said softly "Something your heart desires?"

Donatello gulped, there was something off about this woman and he wasn't sure what it was.

"I owe you, my gratitude." The woman said, "I don't have any money to give, but I can grant you one wish."

Donatello gaped.

"Huh?" he asked "Wait…a wish?" he shook his head.

"This lady is crazy!" he thought to himself "I better get out of here!"

"Don't be afraid turtle." The woman said, "I can see within you there is something your heart desires, there's someone you care about isn't there?"

Donatello's heart began to beat faster and his jaw dropped.

"How…how did you?" he asked, yet before he could continue, the woman lifted her hands to her face before running them over her skin and hair, then before Donatello's eyes, her piercings vanished, her mohawk disappeared and her hair turned a shimmering white gold with some silver highlights.

Donatello almost jumped back at her sudden change in appearance and the woman smiled at him, a warm loving smile.

"Trust me Donatello, in gratitude for saving me there, I will grant you one wish…."

So Donatello has seen April off to the prom, yet he still wishes he could be her date.

Now he has encountered a strange woman he rescued from the Purple Dragons! The plot thickens!
