Chapter Four

After about half an hour, Donatello had gotten a drink of punch, as well as helped himself to some of the food from the buffet as well as did a little dance to a couple of songs, but at the same time, he wasn't sure where to find April.

As he moved around, many of the students watched him, wondering who he was.

Donatello felt nervous, wondering if the witch's spell was wearing off, but as he looked at his hands, they hadn't changed, and he had three hours until midnight.

"Who is that guy?" he heard one girl say.

"No idea! I've never seen him before."

"Might be a visitor? A friend of another student?"

After a while, Donatello managed to locate April, and he found her standing at a drinks table talking to a couple of girls and another man.

She looked so pretty, the sparkling details on her golden gown shone and shimmered under the disco lights.

Donatello wondered whether to go over, but he waited, feeling a little nervous about asking her to dance in front of the other students, but he lingered close so he could listen in on their conversation.

"Such an amazing night!" the first girl said, this one was wearing a red dress with burgundy sparkling detail with red and amber flowers in her curly red/brown hair that was done up in a bun.

"Indeed, it is!" agreed the second girl wearing a tight fitting backless rose-pink dress with silver and crystal detail on the back, a flowing skirt and her long wavy dark brown hair was loose behind her and wearing a pink rose corsage.

Standing with the first girl, was a tall young man with short dark brown hair and a serious yet kind look on his face.

He wore a black tuxedo and his shirt underneath had flame details and the flower in his lapel was a dark orange colour.

As the girls chatted, he wrapped his arm around the girl in red.

"I'm so sorry Casey's had to miss this." The girl in pink spoke up and Donatello's eyes widened slightly.

"Casey's not here?" he thought "I wonder why."

"Yeah, I'm sorry too Mona," April sighed "But he really wasn't feeling great, thus why he cancelled on me."

"Sucks!" The girl in red said.

"Well, if you had a date, Liz." Mona said, "Unless you're me."

Liz patted Mona's shoulder.

"Don't worry Mona." She winked "I'm sure Raymond will dance with you, so you don't feel left out." She gestured to her boyfriend who nodded in agreement.

Mona just chuckled.

"You're too kind, but you should have your boyfriend to yourself on this special night."

April gave a slight chuckle at the girl's playful banter.

"Was he disappointed?" Raymond asked April.

"A little, but he doesn't like formal stuff much," April sighed "But he wanted to give me a nice night, but sadly he just had to get ill!"

"Again, our sympathies." Mona said.

"Thanks guys, but I'll be alright." April smiled "Tonight's been great so far, great atmosphere! Great music, good food!"

"You can say that again!" Liz agreed.

Donatello bit his lip.

"So, April's here all alone?" he felt a light within him as he wouldn't have to worry about Casey, although he did feel sorry for that fact he wasn't very well.

"Well, if April's lost her date, I could just swan over and ask her to dance with me?"

He looked at April's friends as they continued to chat, but then a song came up and Raymond led Liz onto the dance-floor so they could dance, and Mona decided to join in, asking April if she was coming.

Yet April shook her head and said she was going to get another drink.

Donatello felt hopeful again.

"Perfect!" he thought "I could get to her when she's alone and see how we get on from there!"

Gathering his courage, he sauntered over to April as she was picking up a glass and filling it with some punch.

"Hey!" he said softly.

April almost jumped out of her skin as she turned to face Donatello.

"Oh…you startled me." She chuckled.

"I…I apologise!" Donatello stuttered and blushed.

"It's okay." April smiled then handed him a glass of punch which he took gratefully.

"Are you here alone?" April asked, "I've never seen you before, I don't recognise you from school."

"Yeah, I'm here alone, like without a date." Donatello replied, "And no, I don't go to your school, I was given a spare ticket by a friend who's in your year."

"Oh, I see." April looked closely at Donatello.

"I know I've never met you before, but you remind me of someone."

Donatello felt his stomach lurch, did April recognise him? Well, she couldn't tell it was him due to his human form, but he didn't think that maybe April would know his voice or look into his eyes and see him behind the disguise.

After what seemed like a long time, April looked down.

"Nah." She said, "You must look like someone I know, or at least I used to know."

Donatello sighed relieved and took a sip of his punch.

"Are you alone here too?" he asked, even though he already knew the answer.

"Yeah." April sighed as she sipped her drink "Well I had a date, but he cancelled on me due to illness."

"Awww, sorry to hear that." Donatello comforted "I'm sure he was sad to let you down."

"It's okay." April replied, "Just bad luck I guess."

"I'll keep you company if you like?" Donatello asked, "Since we're both without dates."

April looked up and smiled.

"I'd love that!" she said "Cheers!" she clinked her glass with Donatello's and the turtle grinned within.

"This night is going great!" he thought "I'm here at the ball, with April, and Casey's not here!"

He wondered if Casey not being here was another part of the witch's spell, but then he remembered what she said about using magic to harm others or for selfish reasons.

Pushing those thoughts aside, Donatello and April sat down on some chairs near the drinks table and listening to the music as well as watched the other dancers on the dance floor.

"Man." He thought to himself "If only the guys could see this! They'd never believe it!"

Meanwhile, back at the lair, Leonardo, Raphael, and Michelangelo were coming to the end of their film.

Michelangelo was dozing off every so often, popcorn strewn around him, and Leonardo and Raphael were laying down staring at the screen and yawning.

As the credits began to roll, Leonardo sat up and stretched.

"Did any of you hear Donnie come back?" he asked as he looked around.

"No." Raphael said as he too sat up and poked Michelangelo who sat up with a fright.

"What? What's going on?" Michelangelo asked then he saw the popcorn all around him.

"Donatello's not home, is he?" Leonardo asked as he stood up and walked to Donatello's lab.

"Don?" he called "Don?" yet he didn't see the brainy turtle in his lab, so he decided to go to his bedroom.

"Donatello?" he called but again there was no answer.

Raphael and Michelangelo also looked around the lair but couldn't find their brother.

"He must still be topside." Leonardo guessed.

"More than likely." Raphael said, though he was worried, especially after how Donatello had been feeling earlier.

"It's been a while though." Michelangelo stated "When did he leave here? About two hours ago."

Leonardo rubbed his chin in thought.

"Hmm, that is a long time." He spoke.

"Do you think we should go and look for him?" Raphael asked.

"Well, he's been out longer before." Leonardo said, "And he always has his T-Phone charged and working, let's give it another half hour, if he doesn't come back or answer his T-Phone, we'll go look for him."

"Okay." Raphael agreed and Michelangelo too nodded.

So Donatello's enjoying himself at the Prom and he's found April who doesn't have a date as Casey's ill! Well that was a lucky coincidence, well for Donatello anyway.

Meanwhile the other three turtles are starting to wonder if Donatello's alright, if only they knew what was going on!
