Chapter Five
Back at the prom, Donatello never felt so happy.
He had been dancing with April on the dancefloor with Raymond, Liz, and Mona to some upbeat dance music but now some songs they weren't too keen on were playing, they decided to sit at a table on the side and talk for a bit over some more drinks.
For the past hour and April had shared some punch as well as some other soft drinks and ate some snacks from the buffet, then they started to dance the night away together.
April asked him a few questions about what he had been studying and what he planned to do after high school and Donatello wasn't shy to admit his fascination of science, engineering, and mechanics.
He knew he could be himself, if he didn't give away too much.
"You remind me of a friend who loves that stuff!" April chuckled over the rim of her glass of punch.
Donatello laughed.
"Well, I know I might seem a dork, but…."
"Oh no!" April smiled "I love dorks, I sometimes wish Casey was more of a dork than a jock sometimes!"
Donatello felt his stomach clench and he bit his tongue as he thought of Casey, but since he was under a human disguise, he thought this was the perfect time to ask April about Casey.
"You mentioned this Casey a few times." He said, "Was he supposed to be your date?"
April looked at Donatello.
"Yeah." April sighed "But he started to feel ill yesterday, he thought he could just sleep it off, but he felt worse today, I almost didn't want to go tonight as I was worried about him as well as not wanting to go alone, but Mona, Liz and Raymond persuaded me to go."
She gestured to her three friends who were still on the dancefloor, or rather Raymond was sitting on the side watching the two girls dance together.
"Sorry…" Donatello said sympathetically, feeling sad for her, even though he had been annoyed that Casey was going to be April's date, he felt sorry for her, and sad that she almost thought of not going because Casey wasn't going with her.
A light filled his head as he thought that he was making her night much better because he offered to keep her company and seeing her happy made him feel good inside.
"Casey, well he said he wasn't disappointed he was going to miss the dance, as he's not into formal stuff, but he wanted to give me a good night, it's the only time he's really been serious about anything!"
Donatello's eyes widened.
"Does he not take anything serious at all?" he questioned, even though he knew how immature Casey was.
"Not really no." April said, "He's a good guy really, he's not got a bad bone in his body, but he's just…well…he doesn't care about school, and is way over his head sometimes, getting into trouble and I have to bail him out."
Donatello felt a smirk form within him, yet he kept his face serious.
"So, this Casey guy, he's alright, but just…well…"
"More of a jock really." April replied, "But between you and me, I wish he was more of a dork."
Donatello wanted to beam, but he put a surprised look on his face.
"She wishes Casey was more like me!" he thought "That proves it! She wishes Casey was more like me!"
He sipped his punch as he looked at the rather sad look on April's face.
He was about to say something until the music from the DJ changed and he recognised the next song as Symphony by Clean Bandit.
"Hey!" he said cheerfully "Fancy another dance?" he held his hand out for April and she smiled as she too recognised the song.
"I'd love to!" she grinned, and Donatello took her head and they headed to the dancefloor again.
As they entered the floor, they saw Raymond and Liz were dancing close together, and Mona had been asked to dance by another young man wearing a burgundy tuxedo with a red shirt underneath. His hair was jet black and he had a slight smirk on his face which Mona seemed fixated on as they danced together.
"I love this song!" April cried as she held Donatello's shoulders and Donatello held her waist.
"I love it too!" Donatello grinned and they began to sway around in time to the tune.
I've been hearing symphonies
Before all I heard was silence
A rhapsody for you and me
And every melody is timeless
Life was stringing me along
Then you came and cut me loose
Was solo singing on my own
Now I can't find the key without you
And now your song is on repeat
And I'm dancing along to your heartbeat.
When you're gone, I feel incomplete
So, if you want the truth.
I just want to be part of your symphony
Will you hold me tight and not let go?
Symphony
Like a love song on the radio
Will you hold me tight and not let go?
As Donatello held April close after doing a few spins with her, he felt tears form in his eyes, almost like the singer was singing this song for him, the way he felt about April.
I'm sorry if it's all too much
Everyday you're here, I'm healing
And I was running out of luck
I never thought I'd find this feeling
Cause I've been hearing symphonies
Before all I heard was silence
A rhapsody for you and me
(A rhapsody for you and me)
And every melody is timeless
And now your song is on repeat
And I'm dancing along to your heartbeat.
When you're gone, I feel incomplete
So, if you want the truth.
I just want to be part of your symphony
Will you hold me tight and not let go?
Symphony
Like a love song on the radio
Will you hold me tight and not let go?
As April danced with Donatello, she felt at ease, even though she didn't know him, he seemed to care about her, the way he held her, the way he looked at her, the way he listened to her.
He was so different from Casey, quieter, and gentler in his touch.
"Who is he?" she asked herself "I never asked his name, but I must ask him."
And now your song is on repeat
And I'm dancing along to your heartbeat.
When you're gone, I feel incomplete
So, if you want the truth.
I just want to be part of your symphony
Will you hold me tight and not let go?
Symphony
Like a love song on the radio
Symphony
Will you hold me tight and not let go?
Symphony
Like a love song on the radio
Will you hold me tight and not let go?
As the song ended, Donatello gently spun April around to face him, and as he did that another song came on, this one was 'How Do I Live?' by Leanne Rimes.
As he looked into April's eyes, he wondered if she would let him get close to her, but April looked up at him and nodded giving her approval and he pulled her close to him.
April rested against his shoulder and wrapped an arm around his back and held his hand with her right.
Donatello in turn held her hand and pulled her closer to him and they began to sway in time to the gentle love song.
As April leant into Donatello, she could hear his heart beating fast and she felt relaxed, she looked over to Raymond and Liz who were holding each other close in the same fashion and both glanced at her giving her a smile.
Mona too was dancing close with the young man who had asked her to dance earlier, although they were even closer, with her arms around his neck and his around her waist and they were just gazing into each other's eyes.
As the song continued, Donatello and April kept dancing close together, Donatello couldn't help the tears that flowed, never in his life did he feel so happy.
He temporally forgot he was really a mutant turtle, living below New York in the dark smelly sewers, and hiding from the humans who scorned him and his brothers, and only dreaming how he could be the man that April dreamed of.
He thanked his lucky stars, his good luck he had bumped into that witch who granted him his wish, to be April's date at the prom and dance with her.
Donatello held April closer, and the tears flowed again, both in happiness, but also at the truth that this night was not to last, as he knew the spell would wear off and he could only have a memory of what had been, but he wanted to make this night count, and if he held April close, he could continue living his wish.
After a few seconds he looked down at April who smiled up at him, yet he knew that kind of smile, it wasn't a friendly smile, her eyes were shining, that sweet loving look he had longed for her to look at him with.
He smiled back, his cheeks burning and his heart beating fast.
"Thank you for making this such a magical night…" April whispered softly "I'm glad you came!"
Donatello chuckled.
"No problem." He said "Well, we both had a magical night, I've really enjoyed your company…" as he spoke, he felt his head getting lower to April's and April felt her lips getting closer to Donatello's.
As the song ended, and both soon felt themselves getting nearer and nearer to each other, then before long, Donatello's heart felt it was going to leap from his chest as he felt April's lips on his.
Time seemed to stop, and mutant turtle in his human disguise felt he had died and gone to heaven, he had been kissed by April before, but only on the cheek, but this was a real kiss, he was kissing her, and she was kissing him back!
He lifted one hand to her cheek and stroked it and he felt April's arms move up his arms, still moving to the last few notes of the song.
Donatello then slid his lips from April's, and they rested each other's foreheads against each other, both lost in each other's eyes.
April smiled up at Donatello softly and Donatello smiled back, opening his mouth to speak, that was until he heard a beeping on his T-Phone….
Awww! So cute! I loved writing this chapter!
If only April knew who she was dancing with and who she kissed!
But Donatello's T-Phone is making a noise! Have his brother's tried calling him? Or is it time?
Find out in the next chapter!
