Albedo runs up the steps and into the Knight's HQ, barging through the entrance and ignoring the surprised cries of the few Knights inside. Amber fell behind some time ago, the exhaustion of having to run back and forth between Mondstadt and Dragonspine finally catching up to her.
Albedo hears Klee before he sees her. Her cries come from her room, and though Albedo knows he's surrounded by friends and Klee is only crying because of her sudden sickness, he barely resists the urge to summon his sword and break the door down. Still, he can not stop himself from throwing it open with more force than needed and barge in.
Inside Klee's room are Kaeya and Barbara. Kaeya's trying to hold Klee in place while Barbara hovers nearby, trying to apply a blob of healing hydro on the struggling girl.
"Albedo?" a teary-eyed Klee asks as her Vision, already glowing bright red, sparks and Kaeya lets her go with a hiss.
Albedo barely manages to kneel before Klee runs into him, burying her head in his lap. He quickly moves in to hug her, but stops, taken aback by the sheer heat she's generating. If he was human, the parts where Klee's skin touches his would be on the verge of first degree burns.
"It hurts," comes Klee's muffled voice, and Albedo finally wraps his arms around her.
"We need to get her temperature down," Barbara says as she gets up and approaches them.
Klee tries to run away again, but this time Albedo holds her down firmly but gently, unsure what else to do. Klee's body grows even warmer, and, judging by the way Kaeya rubs his arms and the small Cryo spots on his exposed arms, Albedo's exposed forearms should definitely have bright red burns by now.
The water evaporates the moment it contacts Klee's skin, and all it does is make her squirm. Barbara steps back with a grimace as Albedo shushes Klee down.
"It's been like this all day," Kaeya says. "I tried getting her temperature down with my Vision, but it only caused a flare-up," he adds and Albedo closes his mouth, his immediate suggestion has been shot down. "Any other ideas?"
Albedo thinks. Klee has been sick before, but it's been nothing more than the seasonal cold. Mondstadt has few endemic diseases, and Klee's sickness appears to be related to the elemental flow to her vision…
Albedo's knees grow weak when he stumbles upon a potential guess as to what's wrong. Klee's state resembles rare, unconfirmed reports of elemental imbalance, where a Vision user's elemental powers would grow out of their control and consume them… Cryo wielders succumb to hypothermia, the lungs of Hydro users fill with water, Electro wielders are overcome with seizures, the stomach of Dendro users distend and burst into an array of plants and animate matter, Anemo wielders paradoxically find themselves short of breath, Geo users have their bodies turned to stone and Pyro...
Pyro users burn from the inside out, until they're nothing more than a charred husk–
No, he cannot let that happen.
"Big brother?" Klee groans again and looks up at him with a glassy gaze.
Albedo quickly kisses her forehead and pats her hair. "It'll be alright."
He keeps whispering reassurances as his mind races for possible cures, even as Klee grows so warm he fears she'll melt in his arms.
