The sun rose the next morning over the city skyline and right into the fire departments second story window blinding you awake through your eyelids. You groaned as you blinked the sleep out of your eyes, blurrily looking around the room you noticed Ray was still snoring loudly in the bed across from yours. You chuckled as you stretched and shuffling made your way into the dining area quietly as not to wake Ray, seeing Egon up and functioning made you a bit relieved to say the least. You sat in the one chair across from him as he sipped his coffee and read the paper, you don't even think he noticed you as quiet as you were.

"Morning." You playfully flicked the center crease of the newspaper.

Egon must have jumped cause you saw the newspaper shift in front of you, "Oh, good morning, (y/n)"

He lowered the paper to the table so you two could see each other, you scanned over the paper to see what section he might have been reading. You couldn't pinpoint exactly where he had been so you decided to ask.

"What were you reading?" You asked with a childlike curiosity in your voice.

"The obituaries." He admitted.

"Looking for possible cases of future hauntings, huh?" You chuckled at him.

"Actually...yes, it keeps us ahead of the trouble and seems to save us insurance claim issues in the event of misconstrued information by clients and possible on the spot cases we take." He explained.

"Like mine?" You questioned.

"Well, that depends...did someone die in your building or possibly someone you knew that might have had a grudge against you for any reason?" He raised his eyebrow while taking a dramatic sip of his coffee.

You pondered that question for a while with hard intent, you really thought hard but nothing that specific came to mind right off the bat, "No, not that I was aware of. I didn't really have a lot of friends growing up, only a small few people I might've talked to once or twice, and if anyone really close to me would've died my mom would've notified me."

Egon replied, "Well, then we'll have to do some research into nearby deaths the day and night of your haunting near your apartment."

You nodded in agreement as you saw movement from behind Egon, it was Ray finally waking up. He came out with his hair sticking up in spots as he walked past the middle bed which was Egon's, and the reserve bed closest to the window (A/N: It became a reserve bed after Peter officially moved in with Dana and Oscar...Winston stays with his wife in their place...Janine and Louis also have a small place together somewhere in the city) and into the bathroom. You chuckled at Ray in his half-awake state and Egon looked at you confused until he decided to turn around and catch Ray coming out looking like he did and tried his hardest not to crack a smirk to follow in with your infectious giggling.

"Mornin' Ray!" You beamed and saluted, then chuckled into your hand.

He groggily blinked and gave a half-tired smile back at your greeting, "Morning."

"Ray, were you having another erotic dream about a certain phantasm again?" Egon sarcastically raised his eyebrow at Ray while still trying not to crack that smile he had been suppressing from your chuckles.

Your jaw dropped and your eyes widened at what Egon had just said and how he had said it, they darted in Ray's direction, a smile forming on the edges of your mouth as it still hung agape, "Ray?! What is he talking about?" You laughed into your hands trying to stifle the loudness as Janine was setting up business for the day downstairs.

Ray's conscious must have finally woken up along with his body cause he stopped in his tracks as he was making his own cup of coffee while you and Egon sat there leading up to this hilarious moment. A blushed formed on his cheeks as he was still turned away from the two of you, Egon shifted in his seat and turned towards Ray and cocked his posture in a way that seemed intimidating only in a high school friend would cracking a joke at a specific student.

You kept looking at Egon, as this was a side of him you've never seen even as of yet but you were enjoying every second of it. His cold, scientific, demeanor had faded even long enough that it seemed as long as Ray was there this was what he was like. Your eyes traveled between the two of them as the atmosphere grew more and more tense, would Ray turn around and face Egon's joking mood or would it just stay and hang like a light about to drop from the ceiling?

"Ray?" Egon said simply to grab his friends attention.

All of a sudden the sirens went off from Janine hitting the alarm downstairs, and her voice sounded through the P.A. System, "We've got an emergency one! I already called Peter and Winston, they'll be waiting for you! Get ready, the paperwork is already on the clipboard in the Ecto-1!"

Ray dashed back into the bedroom and Egon gave you a look as if to say 'here we go.' and slid down the pole, leaving his coffee also unfinished. Ray was ready and dressed light enough for his jumpsuit to fit comfortably over his clothes and he slid down not too long after Egon. You ran into the room and changed quickly as well, now that you had the room to yourself and then charged down the stairs to see them off.

"Bye guys! Knock'em deader than they already are!" You waved with both arms as the Ecto-1 sirens wailed through the buildings around the area as Ray drove haphazardly through the streets of New York City.

-Time Skip-

It had been a few hours and there had been nonstop runs all day, you cleaned up the abandoned coffees from the mornings fiasco. You decided to take a walk since you couldn't technically help Janine with anything work wise yet, as Ray hadn't done a technical interview/orientation and for liability's sake you couldn't help until everything was finalized by the city's knowledge.

The city respected the Ghostbusters, but since the first and second events that almost caused worldwide/statewide chaos and the boys having stopped it, the mayor and the boys agreed that they would be financed through the city and insured as well, but certain things such as employees and other important things had to be finalized and accepted through the mayor, and as busy as he had been planning all the city events and other things a mayor does, he hadn't had the time to deal with a new employee at this exact moment.

You had let Janine know you were going out and she waved in acknowledgement as she was nose deep in some paperwork from all the cases that had popped up. The city air cleared your head as it had the night you were up on the roof, you thought about that night and decided to check out some stores for costume ideas even though Egon said you'd discuss that together. You just wanted to get some simple ideas to discuss about, using some change you had on you waving down a taxi to take you to some party/costume stores in the city.

-Egon's POV-

The cases were relentless today, one right after the other. The boys were getting slammed, Ray was driving more hectic than usual even though the sirens on the Ecto-1 gave the boys the same traffic rules as a police car or an ambulance, his driving was still all over the place.

"Ray, is there anyway we can slow down even a little?" Winston asked while gripping the backseat of the vehicle.

Ray was distracted for some reason today, even though he was acting normal as always he was still unfocused.

Peter looked at Ray as he was in the passenger seat, "Ray? Earth to Ray!" He tapped him on the shoulder.

Ray suddenly snapped out of it and carefully pulled the Ecto-1 over and turned off her sirens. The street was quiet again, and nobody seemed to be focusing their attention on her anymore and went about their businesses. He sighed and just rubbed his face stressedly, he looked around and spotted a nearby pay phone. He got out of the Ecto-1 to the others confusion and put a few quarters in the phone and he had dialed the H.Q.

"Ghostbusters H.Q., how can I help you?" Janine's voice piped from the other end of the line.

"Hey Janine, it's Ray. Can you do me a favor?" His voice was a bit shaky.

"Oh, Ray of course, what do you want me to do?" She perked up when she realized it was her boss on the other end.

"Cancel all emergency call ins for today I need a break, also any appointments for today cancel those too." He was sweating bullets at this point even though the autumn air was just chilly enough for a sweater.

"Oh, ok? Will do, see you when you get back here Ray." She hung up and then made calls to all the appointments that were planned and deactivated the emergency call system.

Ray walked back to the Ecto-1 and slowly this time, drove back to the H.Q. taking some shortcuts on the way.

-Reader's POV-

You were in one of the biggest stores in the city, a mall with escalators to the 3 floors up and down throughout the building. Walking through different businesses and taking notes with a notepad and pencil you had on you on what different Halloween displays and costumes each place had set up, there were decorations of all kinds and treats to follow suit. You had some ideas for costumes written down and was hoping Egon would like some of them, keeping to yourself you continued to stroll through the stores and jotting down ideas.

After having enough of the overcrowded location you went back outside and waved down another taxi, gave him your destination and off you went. Pulling up to the H.Q. you saw the Ecto-1 back in the garage as you walked in the door.

"Janine, why are they back so soon? I thought they were swamped all day?" You walked past her desk and she shrugged worriedly and pointed up the stairs.

Your eyes followed her finger and you cautiously went up, and saw the boys all sitting on the couch with Ray seeming to be the center of focus for what was happening.

"Guys...what's up?" You asked with a hint of worry in your voice.

Ray saw you and motioned for you to sit down with them, your nervousness grew a little but you tried to keep it low as you soundlessly went over and sat down on the same couch as Egon.

He sighed and had started to discuss what had him so spooked, "Remember this morning when Eggy asked me about a dream I had?"

Your gaze shifted to Egon, who nodded in agreement on the subject, "Yeah, what about it, Ray?" Your gaze went back to Ray.

"Well I did have a dream, but it wasn't the kind Egon had asked me about." He admitted.

Egon looked confused now, but was still intently listening, "Ray, I didn't mean to do it to make fun of you."

"No, Egon it wasn't that at all. I was blushing to be honest, but when I thought hard about what the dream entailed...It's been on my mind all day and I have to admit, the reason I waited for (y/n) to return after Janine told me she had gone out...is because it had you in it." Ray sighed and rubbed the back of his neck.

Their eyes turned to you, Egon's included...then went back to Ray. He took his hands and folded them against his lap, "It's not what you're all thinking, it was actually quite odd if I do say so myself. You looked odd, I couldn't quite make it out but you didn't look like you. All I know is you were attacking me, Egon wasn't in it, Winston was on the street a little roughed up but not too bad, and Peter was holding a proton pack behind us, as you held me in the air by my throat with inhuman strength."

You were shocked to say the least, but tried to lighten the mood by giving a tiny chuckle, "Come on guys, it's a dream. You only met me a few days ago, does that seem like something I'd do?"

Egon spoke up as calm as he could be, "(y/n), I know we only just met you but there's something you should know about Ray that only me and Peter have experienced first hand. Sometimes he has dreams that are near prophetic, and I don't even believe in prophecies and such. When the three of us were in high school Ray had a dream one night as we were camping out in an abandoned church." He paused.

He had your full attention at this point as you shifted closer to him to show your piqued interest.

"We had set up our sleeping bags in the center of the preachers pulpit, and sometime in the middle of the night Ray had woken up in a cold sweat waking us up in the process." He continued, "We groggily at up and he told us of his dream, which of course Peter scoffed at and I just rolled back over and tried to sleep it off."

"What happened?" You asked sadly, looking between Egon and Ray who was still sitting like a child who had been reminded of a traumatic event.

"A few days later, the news was on at school as they usually played it in the mornings for us students to stay caught up with the daily events. There was the church and as Ray had stated that Friday night, a criminal was found dead in the church bloodied and scarred by some cryptid-esque creature but they wrote it off as a wild mountain creature attack to keep it within normal human processing standards." Egon sighed, "So we can't take this lightly, (y/n). We don't really know how accurate Ray's dreams are or how specific, but the best we can do for now is just keep it as a possibility."

Your expression changed to one of worry as you glanced between the 4 of them, something big was about to change but no one was sure exactly what or when.
