His words swirled through her thoughts as she lay in bed, her silk pajamas keeping her body cool while her imagination kept her cheeks flustered. I want to give love another shot… with you.
She let out a loud sigh before grabbing her phone off her nightstand. When she turned the screen on, the clock read 2:34 AM, way too late at night for her to still be up. In a defeat-fueled decision, she started mindlessly scrolling through her Instagram. As she was scrolling she came up upon several of her friends' family vacation posts that just made her miss having Trevor and their family vacations to their beach house in Cancún. She hated this feeling, this feeling of loneliness…
She closed out of Instagram and opened her messaging app, a sudden wave of courage washing over her. El… I want to give it another shot. How about Thursday? 7?
Honestly, she hadn't expected a response so quickly considering the time.
He had been laying in bed, unable to sleep after today, wondering what Olivia was thinking. He hated to admit it, but he was crushing like a school kid. God… I'm so out of it… He rubbed his hand over his forehead, letting it rest over his eyes for a few minutes.
When he removed it, he saw his phone light up with a notification. At 2:30 in the morning?!
His heart skipped a beat when he realised that it was a message from Liv. The second he read it a smile appeared on his face and a wave of heat flustered his body. Sure. I'll pick you up at 7 :)
Noah noticed that his mother was smiling a lot that morning when she woke up to make them breakfast. "Mama, you look happy." He smiled.
While setting his plate down in front of him, she returned the smile. "I'm happy that you're here with me."
"But Mama, you're with me every day… you look happier than usual."
She shook her head, her smile never fading from her face. "Eat your breakfast so you can go to daycare and play with Katie."
Quickly, he ate his breakfast so he could go to daycare, excited to tell Katie about his mother's newfound happiness. After breakfast he ran to his room to get changed and brush his hair and teeth. He chose to wear his favorite dinosaur t-shirt and some black cargo shorts.
After about 15 minutes, he came down the stairs, his shoes lighting up as he jumped down each step. "Mama!" He called, "I'm ready to go!"
Together, they walked out the door, hand-in-hand, and headed down the street.
When they rounded the corner to the daycare center, Katie couldn't help but notice her best friend and his mother. "Noah!" Katie cried as she darted for his embrace. She could see from the corner of her eye that her father and Olivia were awkwardly stepping towards one another, smiles plastered on their faces.
"Guess what," Noah whispered in her ear when they stopped hugging.
Katie and he had been spying on their parents, trying their best to see what was going on between them. "Huh?"
"My mama was super happy… like really happy. She was smiling so much."
Katie's eye went wide. "My daddy was smiling a lot this morning too!" She quietly exclaimed, "And when I asked him about it he said he was going on a date on Thursday!"
Noah's eyes went wide too. "Are they going on a date together?"
"They have to be! That's the only explanation."
When they both turned around, they saw that their parents were laughing together, very little space in between them. Suddenly, they heard their parents say goodbye and went back to chattering about random things, however, they positioned themselves so that Katie had eyes on the parents. After hearing them say their goodbyes, Katie saw her father reaching for Olivia's hand and when he had it in his grasps, he gave her a slight tug which was enough to pull her body towards him.
She watched as her father gave the woman he loved a small hug. This would have to do for now.
