A small 4-year-old girl roamed the empty misty streets, starved, lonely, and cold. He bumped into someone and looked up. "S-Sorry ma'am.." He apologized. The woman bent down and placed a hand on his shoulder. "Are you alright? Where are your parents?" She asked. "I'm f-fine. And I h-have no parents." The woman frowned. "Do you have a name?" He shook his head. "Would you like to choose one?" She asked. "Mao." The woman gave him a soft smile and stood up and grabbed his hand. "Well then Mao, let us get to the orphanage to introduce you to the other children." She said and the two walked into the mist, disappearing completely.

Mao was listening to his music, not listening to a word the teacher said, per usual. He looked out the window, his dull, empty chocolate brown eyes watching the rain fall down and slide down the window. Out of the corner of his eye he could see the teacher moving towards him. He turned and looked her in the eyes, turning his music down. "What?" He asked. the teacher glared at then her gaze softened and she sighed. "Please go stand outside miss Mao. I'll be there with you in a moment. Please grab your things." She said as she turned around and walked back to the front of the classroom. Mao got up from his desk frowning. He hated when people use female pronouns. His chair made a loud screeching noise as it slid back. Some kids looked away from their papers and glared at him. "Stop being so loud you freak!" A boy yelled. Mao's sharp gaze at the boy made him flinch. "Make me," Mao retorted as he stuffed his notebook and laptop into his bookbag. The boy got up and grabbed Mao by the collar of his shirt and slammed him into the wall. "William let go of her!" The teacher yelled. Mao's expression lay blank until a wicked smile came across his lips. "You're too weak as always William. Remember last year when you lost to me in a fight?" He taunted. "Mao!" A girl yelled. William growled and balled his hand into a fist and pulled his arm back, ready to strike. "Do it. Hit me." He said William growled and tried to hit him in the face but moved his head out of the way. "Stop moving!" He yelled. Mao kneed William in the stomach making him stumble back and let go of Mao. "Mao, William stop this nonsense at once!" The teacher yelled. Mao couldn't help but smile as he punched William in the face hard enough to break his nose. William grunted and grabbed his nose. "You just broke my nose!" He yelled.

The sinister smile on Mao's face never left. "I know." He said. William growled again and attempted to punch Mao but Mao blocked it and kicked him in the stomach making William cough. The teacher quickly rushed over to the two and grabbed both of their arms. "Both of you outside now!" She yelled. Mao snatched his arm out of her grasp and put his jacket on and put his phone in his pocket then put his bookbag on and walked out the door and into the hallway. The teacher walked out still holding William's arm and turned to Mao. "Mao, this behavior is absolutely unacceptable!" Mao rolled his eyes and turned his music up ignoring her. Mao felt the teacher pushing him to the principal's office, and opened the door and was telling the principal who just looked at Mao and back to the teacher.

Mao glared at the principal. The man quickly looked up at the teacher and nodded and said something. Once the teacher and William left, the man sighed. Mao turned his music down and just stared. "M-Mao your guardian will have to pick you up, please go to the office." Mao walked out the office and walked down the hall until he got to the entrance and walked out and sat on the stairs not caring about the rain falling on his sweatpants. He saw a car pull up to the school a little while later. He saw a lady with brown hair pulled in a bun with a rain jacket on running up to him. She hugged him not noticing him flinch. "Are you okay? I heard you got into a fight." She asked as she check him for injuries. "I'm fine. The other kid isn't though." The woman sighed. "I'll be back, I need to sign you out go wait in the car please." Mao got up and walked to the car and opened the passenger's door, got in and sat down, then closed the door making sure not to slam the door and break it like last time. Mao pulled his phone out of his pocket and started to play a game out of boredom. He felt the car move as the slim woman got into the car. "You're fat." He blurted out making her gasp. "Mao that's rude! And I'm not fat!" She exclaimed. "The car moved so you are." The woman huffed and started the car. "Who's the kid in the back?" Mao asked. "That's Rory, I was hoping you two would get along." Mao hummed. "Depends. Little kids are a pain." The woman sighed and started driving.

The next few weeks were weird, but Rory was the only kid Mao got along with. They both were orphans, liked reading and writing stories. But their parent stories are different. Rory's died in a car crash, while Mao, who was created by the gods as the God of Pain, had none.
Mao currently was laying in bed staring at the ceiling while Rory was sleeping soundly. "Humans bore me." He muttered. He turned to look at Rory, then looked out the window, slowly falling asleep to the sound of the rain.

The next morning, Mao awoke to not see Rory. He got up grabbed his phone, then grabbed his headphones and put them on listening to his music. Rory ran into the room and tugged on Mao's sleeve. Mao took his headphones off and placed them around his neck and turned to her. "What?" He asked. "We're getting adopted together!" She exclaimed. Mao nodded and got up. "I'm about to change, go close the door." He said as he walked to the dresser and grabbed a sweater, some jeans and sat them on the bed. He heard the door close and quickly changed into his other clothes and slipped on his jacket and shoes. He put his phone in his pocket and put his headphones back on. He opened the door. And saw Rory and walked up behind her and grabbed her hand. She shyly hid behind Mao as the caretaker introduced them to their new fathers. One looked nice, the other looked excited and the other just looked stern for no reason. Mao definitely knew he was to avoid having any trouble with the third man. Mao stepped up to the men and looked up examining them. One of them shrunk back a bit, uncomfortable by his stare. The overly excited one waved at him. "My name's Oliver, is she your sister?" He asked. As he tried to get a look at her but Mao stepped in front of her protectively, glaring. "No, she's my friend. Why?" He asked. Oliver laughed. "I wasn't going to do anything, I just wanted to see her." He said. Mao was going to say something but Rory tugged on his sleeve. "It's Okay Mao." She said and stepped from behind him. Rory was much smaller than Mao, only being 9, she was still quite small. She had auburn hair with pink tips on the ends of her hair, she had fair skin, green eyes, and she wore a peach colored jacket, and a long white dress with some brown slightly heel like boots. She shyly looked down.

Oliver smiled at her. "What's your name?" He asked. "M..my name is Rory.." She then looked up at Oliver. "I-It's nice to meet you O-Oliver.." She said. Oliver smiled. "Why don't we get going hm?" Mao didn't say anything as Rory grabbed his hand as Oliver lead them over to the car.

Mao stared out the window watching as things zoomed past the window. He turned up his music and closed his eyes. He imagined himself back home, sitting on a grass hill with his large reddish black wings surrounding him. He opened his eyes now feeling the car stop. He sat up and saw the large mansion. He tilted his head to the side. "Why would three guys need a house this big?" He asked himself as he put Rory's hood on her head, and put opened the car door getting out, waiting for Rory. Rory gasped. "This is where we're gonna live?" She asked. Oliver chuckled and nodded. "Mhm. Welcome to the Admin Mansion!" He exclaimed. Mao looked at the mansion then started walking ahead of everyone. "Hurry up, if my phone breaks I'll make you buy me a new one." Oliver jumped a bit. "O-Okay! Come on Rory!" He exclaimed as he ran to the mansion.

I hope you enjoyed the prologue.
