Chapter 28:
- 2 years later -
(Olivia POV)
Camilo and I had snuck away from town while they were all enjoying the Firefly Festival. We snuck back to Casita and made our way up to Camilo's room. I hadn't been back up here since Dolores' wedding. I looked up at Camilo smiling as we were away from the rest of the world. I was getting a better look of his room this time seeing all the different things he had in his room.
I kept looking around his room when I noticed a little pile of things in the corner. I stood up and went over to them, "Liv?" He asked as he followed my gaze. I turned back to face him, "What is all of this?" He shrugged, "Well when you were blind and alone in the church all day I used to bring you things to feel..." I smiled, "I know... I remember." He nodded his head, "This is just some other stuff I was going to bring you. I had kind of a collection going. I don't know why I kept it after you got your sight back though." I smiled at him, "You know I didn't just like the objects that you gave me when you came to the church. What I really like was the stories that you would tell me from behind them." He smiled at me gesturing his head towards the objects, "Pick one."
I looked through the objects and picked up a shell, "Tell me about this one." He began to tell me this elaborate story about how this shell used to be the home of some fish or other sea creature and it managed to find its way down our long winding river to his feet by the bridge of Encanto. I smiled as he became more animated in telling the tale. I picked up another object, "How about this one?" It turned out to be a piece of bark from the tree out in Limbo. I had immediately recognized it under my touch. He told me about how he had been searching for a spot to take me out of the church and when he found our Limbo he had picked off a piece of the bark to give to me.
I smiled as he told me more and more stories, "Pick another one." He said. I looked over the objects when I noticed a small box. I ran my fingers over the soft material that it was held in and smiled to myself before handing it to him, "This one." He smiled down at the box, "Close your eyes." He said to me and I immediately complied. "This is something that doesn't really belong to me. It belongs to one of the best people I know. She is strong, brave, smart, kind, beautiful beyond all reason. And I hope that this will make her say yes." I felt his fingers running across my hand and I opened my eyes to see Camilo down on one knee. The box was opened and there was a ring inside, "Liv will you marry me?" I nodded my head as I went down onto my knees and pulled him into a kiss, "Yes, of course I will." "I love you Liv," he said. I smiled, "I love you too."
We made our way downstairs where his entire family was waiting. I looked back at Dolores who was guiltily looking up at me. I held out my hand, "I said yes." They rushed around us congratulating us. Dolores pulled me aside and wrapped me in a hug, "I'm so excited for you Olivia. I always wanted a sister." "What about Isabella, Luisa and Mirabel?" She smiled, "I always wanted a sister on my side of the family tree." I laughed nodding my head, "Now we have to start planning your wedding right away."
(Camilo POV)
- 2 years later -
I was bouncing my niece on my knee as we sat in the living room. I had a feeling I was her favorite uncle maybe just her overall favorite in the familia, all those years of babysitting paid off. Liv put her hands on my shoulders as she came up behind me kissing my cheek, "You are going to spoil her." I laughed, "So what, it'll guarantee that I am her favorite." Liv laughed shaking her head, "You are impossible." "And you aren't even going to be in the top 3," I said. She rolled her eyes, "We are Daniela's godparents. I will always make my way up into the top 3." She kissed my cheek as she picked Daniela up from out of my arms. "Hi Daniela," she said as she held her up to her hip. Daniela clapped her hands together "Livvy." I smiled as I watched Liv playing with Daniela. She was really good with her, maybe I had some competition after all.
"Why aren't you two married yet?" We turned and saw Dolores walking in holding Pedro. Liv smiled at Dolores, "Because someone threatened to reveal all my secrets to all of Encanto and bodily harm if I made her take wedding picture pregnant." I looked up at Liv, "Wait really?" She nodded her head, "Do I know these secrets?" She looked at me, "Most of them." Ok so we are circling back to that later. Our attention turned back to Dolores, "Well I'm not pregnant now. What's stopping you?" Liv handed Daniela back over to Mariano and pointed up to him with an accusing look on her face, "That look on his face that he wants another one." Mariano shrugged, "Not even going to deny that." Dolores looked between all of us, "Well either way I'm not now so what's stopping you." Liv looked at me and back at Dolores, "Ok if you promise me that you will not make me cancel or reschedule again we'll start planning." She held out her hand for Dolores and Dolores shook her hand.
Liv then turned to face me, "How would you feel about getting married by the end of the month?" I laughed at her, "I think that you sound crazy. You know how into all of this my family is. You were there when we were planning Dolores' wedding." She nodded her head, "But what if we planned everything and told them right before?" I held my hand to my chest, "You want to start your time in this family on a lie?" She shook her head, "Not a lie. I just want to get married to you as soon as possible and I know that if we tell everyone that isn't going to happen." I sighed, "You know the moment we start planning things people in town will figure things out. As soon as they know so will my family. But, hey with all this planning with my family you are guaranteed to get the wedding of your dreams." She smiled at me, "I never really cared what my wedding was like. I would be fine sneaking away to the church tomorrow and having a simple ceremony there." She sighed as she sat down next resting her head on my chest, "I know it is impossible but if it wasn't, would you?" I nodded my head, "Yeah Liv if it was possible I'd marry you tomorrow." She nodded her head against my chest, "I would too." "Now about those secrets that Dolores knows..." I started and we talked for a little bit more.
I hated this part of the day when I walked Liv home. She moved our from the Sanchez's after she turned 19 and she moved back into the shack on the edge of town. Everyone told her she didn't have to but she had insisted. She is still very close with the Sanchez's and visits/babysits for them often. I hated this for many reasons:
1. Her shack was on the edge of town far away from everyone else.
2. Every night she went back there all alone.
3. The mountain around Encanto never closed even after the miracle was restored.
4. Although no one has entered Encanto since everything happened I'm terrified that someone will.
5. Her shack was pretty much the furthest point from Casita before the fields and jungle.
We reached her shack and she turned back to face me, "Well this is my stop." I sighed, "I wish you still lived with the Sanchez's." She nodded her head, "I know that you do, but hey now that we are actually planning our wedding I get to move in with you soon. Then you never have to walk me home again." I smiled at her, "Yeah that wedding needs to happen as soon as possible." She laughed a little, "You know that I'm not going to object to that." She wrapped her arms around me in a warm embrace, "I will see you tomorrow." I nodded my head, "You are going into town to watch the Sanchez's right?" She nodded her head, "Yeah I am. I will see you then." She kissed my cheek and went back into her shack. "See you tomorrow," I said. I wished that I could have given Liv what she wanted with our wedding. If we were anyone else in town it would be completely possible.
I made my way back to Casita thinking about his more and more. I had made a decision and it was probably crazy. I knocked on Mirabel's door, "Camilo what is going on?" I smirked, "Think you can call a family meeting?" She nodded her head, "What are you up to?" I smiled, "I'll explain at the meeting."
(Olivia POV)
I came out of my shack the next morning and was surprised to find Isabella there, "Oh hey what's going on?" She smiled at me, "We haven't been able to spend time together in a while. I figured I'd walk with you." I smiled, "Of course. Let's go." I was about to go on my usual route when she took my hand, "Do you mind if we take the long way?" I shook my head, "No as long as I make it to the Sanchez's on time." We began walking through town but something was off. People in town were quiet if they were there at all. We passed by where Julieta usually is but she was gone. I turned toward Isabella, "Is there some town thing going on today?" She shook her head, "Not that I know of." I thought I saw her smile slightly but I choose to ignore it.
We were passing by the town garden. There were a bunch of different flowers and plants growing inside. I looked over at Isabella, "Your handy work." She nodded, "Some are. Mostly the cacti." I looked at all the different flowers and smiled when I saw the dahlias. I smiled to myself, "You like those?" Isabella asked. I smiled, "They were my Mama's favorite." "I'll make sure to tell Camilo," she said. I looked up at her about to tell her not to worry about it but, by the look on her face I knew it was useless, "I'm about to get flowers everyday aren't I?" She nodded her head, "For at least a year." I sighed shaking my head. I brushed myself off standing up, "Come on the Sanchez's are expecting me." She nodded her head.
We continued to walk and Isabella stopped in front of the dress shop. I went to see what caught her attention but as I looked the dresses over they were not really Isabella's style. She looked over at me, "I know they aren't really me, but what do you think?" I looked over the dresses again when I looked at the one in the middle. It was gorgeous. I was a simple floor-length dress that was completely off the shoulders with elbow height sleeves. I smiled to myself and Isabella looked at me, "The middle one?" I nodded my head, "Yeah." She smirked, "I had a feeling it was that one from the look on your face." I sighed, "Yeah but it looks more expensive than anything else I own. Maybe one day." She nodded her head, "We better keep going." I nodded my head as well, "Yeah, let's go."
We were passing by the church when I saw people going in and out, "Isabella what's going on at the Church it's Wednesday. The choir practices on Thursday and mass is on Sunday." She shrugged, "I don't know we will find out later I guess." This was weird, "I think I'm going to check out what is going on." "I mean if you are going to go there why don't you bring Camilo then," she said looking around. "Isabella." She looked around, "Come on let's go." She said grabbing my arm and pulling me in the direction. When she finally stopped we were way past the Sanchez's house and near the path to Casita, "Isabella what's going on?" She just gestured her head toward the path and that was when I saw that the Sanchez's and the Madrigals were all lined up along the path. "What's going on?"
Camilo made his way down the path in a really nice suit. "Camilo do you mind explaining to me why Isabella nearly tore my arm off to bring me here." He smiled at me, "Remember what we were talking about yesterday and how you wished we could get married as soon as possible?" I nodded my head and got down on one knee, "Olivia will you marry me today?" "What? I thought you said it was impossible..." I started and he nodded his head, "I found out that it is nearly impossible. Almost everything is set up and if you say yes you can be Olivia Madrigal by sunset." I smiled at him, "I love you." He stood up and I pulled him into a kiss. He laughed back at me, "So that's a yes?" I nodded my head, "Yes I would love to marry you today."
I looked around as all the women and girls surrounded me, "Then we have to go. She will see you at the church Camilo." Mirabel called out as they guided me into town. I went into the dress shop from before and they all helped me get ready. I couldn't believe that this was happening. They braided flowers into my hair and pulled it up in some fashion. They brought out the dress from the window. I looked at Isabella, "You were a spy." She shook her head, "I was an informant. Very different job." I laughed as I finished getting ready. It was time to meet Camilo at the church."
(Camilo POV)
I watched as they pulled Liv away and I made my way over to the church. I don't know how long I was waiting before they pulled me out to the alter. I stood and watched as Daniela walked down the aisle holding onto Cecilia's hand. Mariano carried Pedro down the aisle, as he was our ring bearer. I then watched as Isabella and Antonio walked down the aisle and waited until I saw her. Liv. She began walking down the aisle and I couldn't take my eyes off her as she smiled at me.
I couldn't stop looking at her throughout the entire ceremony and barely remembered to say "I do." When the time came. She had a broad smile on her face the entire time and I knew that this was the perfect day for both of us. As we walked out of church I kissed her again and whispered, "Did I do alright?" She nodded her head smiling up at me, "Better than I could have ever imagined." I nodded my head, "Good because I'm sending Antonio and Luisa to move you out of that shack." She laughed, "Ok. Only if I get another kiss." I nodded my head, "That can be arranged."
