A world where Sam became a lawyer but his first trial was not as he had expected.
All the names and the places are imaginary and they don't belong to me!

Chapter 1
"Good morning, mr Rockson", Sam enters for the first time the law office in which he'll be doing his graduate training for the next months. He was one of the best students at Stanford and Steve Rockson is one of the most known lawyers in California, so he's super lucky to work with him.
"Good morning, Sam. You arrived just in time for your first trial!"
"Really? Wow, that was quick!"
"Well, it's a good thing that you were one of the best students at Stanford because the guy we are against today, is a difficult situation! We have found him many times but he always ends up to escape! He's every lawyer's nightmare!"
"It really sounds tough! What's his name?"
"Well, here's another problem. We find him with many names and we have not succeeded yet to find which one is his real! Jack Moller, Andrew Roberts and George Smith are only a few of them!"
"Age?"
"Late twenties. 25-30 I guess from the photos we have."
"Can I see them?"
"Sam, I'd love to inform you but we have to get going to be in the court in time! Today you'll just watch me and after that I'll tell you everything about this case and you'll help me! Are you ready?"
"Okay, yes! Let's go!"
And just like that, Sam's journey on being a lawyer begins. He was just a boy with no home and a broken family who wanted to be normal. As normal as he could anyway, after knowing that supernatural exists and they fight it. His father was obsessed with finding what killed his mother and his brother was determined to do anything to have John's approval. They were always there for him but they never understood him. Well, John never did. Dean.. God, he missed Dean more than anything. He haven't talked to his brother for four years and it's killing him. He often listens some voicemails they sent each other the first days he had left so he can feel him a little closer. And then Sam told him that it would be better to stop talking so much 'cause he missed him even more but he couldn't go back to his old life. He wanted to continue studying and being with his girlfriend Jess and have a normal life. He knew right then that he broke his brother's heart.. but his own wasn't on a better shape either..
"We're here! Everybody's inside already so we don't have time! Follow me!"
"Okay!", Sam follows mr Rockson into the big building trying to observe as many things as he can on their way to the courtroom.
"Good morning, mr Rockson! Everybody's here and the defendant on his way.", the judge greets.
"Great! We weren't late!", mr Rockson says to Sam and they sit.
"What's the name of this young man?", the judge talks for a while with the lawyer since they know each other personally after all these years of work.
"He's Sam Winchester. He just graduated from Stanford and I'm showing him the ropes. But I can tell that he's good. He won't need me long!"
Sam is humbled from mr Rockson' s words and he would love to work by his side as long as it's possible, but when the courtroom' s doors open and the defendant comes in, he realizes that maybe he won't be long next to mr Rockson after all.

Chapter 2
The doors open and a man in handcuffs and a confident grin enters the room with two officers on each side. He walks with an attitude and his green eyes search the room for an escape or anything else that would be useful, till his glance finds Sam. His legs keep walking but his head and his mind have stuck on this person.
"Sam, this is the guy. George Smith is his latest name which I'm sure it's not his real one. Just as every time!", mr Rockson says and he returns his attention at the room in front of him. But Sam barely listens to him. His eyes are stuck to the person who is sitting now at the front. Dean?! He thinks. And he's really REALLY grateful that he's so shocked and didn't say his brother's name loud.
"Mr Smith, this is the second time you come here, since all the previous ones you found a way to escape. But we're gonna make sure that this will not happen again. You are charged with several counts of murder and credit card theft...", Sam stops listening after that. Dean?! He repeats in his mind. First of all, how can dad let Dean get into so much trouble that he's in a court for the SECOND time and everybody knows him?! He's SURE that his brother hasn't hurt anyone and all these murders he's accused of, are supernatural things but you can't prove that. Supernatural is a secret. The world will freak out if they find out that it's real! And secondly, why of all the people he could came across, it should be Dean?! He can't let his law job, but at the same time he can't let his brother get in jail for things he never did! All this time Dean's eyes are stuck on Sam but his expression is totally unreadable. Sam hopes that this is because they are in public and have to be discreet, and not because he has lost his ability to recognize every time his brother's emotions and thoughts by just looking at him.
After the trial, Dean is leaded in custody and Mr Rockson with Sam are on their way to interrogate him. Everything seems like a bad dream and Sam can't wait to wake up. Only that he doesn't. And now he is sitting again next to mr Rockson with only a table between he and his brother. He has changed. Not a lot but he definitely seems more mature and grown up. He has more muscle and his hair are a little longer than usual but he's glad to see that his attitude and his sarcastic comments remain the same while he talks to the lawyer. Sam almost smiles at that but then remembers the situation they're in and tries to concentrate to that. Mr Rockson' s cell phone rings and he excuses himself for a moment letting Sam behind and telling him not to talk with Dean.. or George as they call him for now.
"Dean, what the hell?!", are the first words that come out of Sam's mouth the moment Rockson closes the door.
"Heya Sammy! I'd hug you but I'm a little tied up here.", Dean smiles and Sam almost wants to cry by hearing his brother's voice calling him 'Sammy' after so many years. He never let anyone call him by that name. As much as he didn't like it, he only allowed Dean calling him that.
"Dean..", he repeats one more time. He has SO many things to say, but for a few seconds he is just looking at his brother now that they're alone.
"Hey, don't start with the chick flick moments, Sammy. We have only a few seconds alone and I'd prefer to spend them finding a way to get out of here and then we can talk as much you want.. if you want.", Dean adds at the end.
"Of course I want, Dean! Jesus! I never stopped wanted to talk to you! But it wasn't easy, okay?! It wasn't easy to move on when every time we were on the phone I wanted to take the first bus and come to you!"
"Sammy, please. I missed you, man! I really did and I want you to know that I'm not mad or anything! Instead, I'm proud to see that you have achieved your goals! But that's not the place and the time for this conversation, brother. Once I'm out of here, we'll discuss everything, okay?"
"Okay..", Sam answers after a small pause.
"You use our real last name, right?"
"Yes.", Sam answers.
"So in no case they shouldn't find mine! Then they'll find out that we're brothers and that means only bad things for you and your future."
"Dean.." , how he missed saying his brother's name!
"I'll stuck with George Smith and then I have to find a way to...", Dean continues
"Dean!", but Sam interrupts him again.
"What?!"
"My chance here is already gone, so it doesn't matter if they found out our relation or not. Just not yet."
"What are you talking about?", Dean looks at him really puzzled.
"What I'm talking about? Dean, you're my brother! I can't let you get in jail! The only good thing I can do from this position is to help you escape and then leave."
"You can't leave, Sam! That's your dream!"
"And I can't let you get in jail, neither!"
"I'll find a way.."
"WE will find a way! Together! Rockson is one of the best lawyers! It will not be as easy as you think."
"Sam, no!"
"The first time I chose the normal life and left you and dad behind. And here we are now with you and me on opposite sides. This time I choose my family, Dean! I choose you! I don't have a lot of time to think about it and probably I'll regret it leaving my career, but most of all I'll regret not to help you after everything you have done for me!"
Dean's about to answer when the door opens and Rockson comes in.
"Sorry for the long time I was gone, Sam, but it was a really important call. I'll explain later. Soo.. mr Smith what were we talking about? Oh, right.. You didn't talk much!", he sits next to Sam and across Dean again.
._._._._.
"He won't talk.", Sam tries to sound annoyed back at the office.
"Oh, he will! Everybody does! We just need to find the right thing to say! We couldn't find his family but I'm sure he has someone out there he cares about!", Rockson is reading a paper he has in his hands and Sam can't wait to return to his home and call his father. His home. The one he shares with Jess. What the heck he's gonna tell her when he'll have to leave from here after he saves Dean? Will she follow him? Will she understand? But then again, will they be alone or he'll return to his family? His father told him not to come back at their last fight. If he still means that? And what about Dean? He said he's not mad, but then again how can he NOT be? After everything he had done for Sam, Sam had let him down. After everything they had been through together, Sam had left him..
"Sam!"
"Uh?.. What?", he comes out of his thoughts.
"Babe, your phone is ringing!", Jess shouts again from the kitchen.
"Hello?", he answers it cautiously since he doesn't recognize the number.
"Sam?", but he does recognize the voice.

Chapter 3
"Bobby?!"
"Kid, I'm so glad to hear your voice after so many years! But if you called me, something's wrong!"
"Called you?"
"Yeah, kid, you left me a message saying that we need to talk."
"Wait.. So, YOU are the person behind the number dad has at his voicemail in case we can't find him?"
"Yup, the one and only Bobby Singer!", he laughs a little.
"How are you, Bobby?", Sam feels a little nostalgic. He can't remember the last time he talked with Bobby.. Uncle Bobby as he and Dean used to call him when they were kids and stayed at his house a few summers.
"I'm fine, Sam. How are you?"
"I could be better..", he exhales. "Do you know where is my dad? I can't reach him. Is he working a case or something?"
"Sam.. what's happening? Since you're searching for John, it must be serious!"
"It's about Dean.", he exhales again.
"Dean? Your brother Dean?"
"Yeah, Bobby."
"What happened to Dean? Last time we talked he was hunting a vampire."
"Alone?!"
"Yes."
"Dean was hunting alone?! How could dad let him without a back up?!"
"Sam, have you talked to your brother?"
"A little, yeah.."
"Then it's better to ask him.."
"It's a little difficult.."
"Why?"
"He's in jail.."
"He's in what?! How did that happen? And most importantly, how do you know that?!"
"I just finished law school and I'm working with a well known lawyer. He's against Dean. Or George Smith as they call him now.."
"Oh, kid, that sucks.."
"I know, Bobby! But I can't let him get in jail forever! The only thing I can do is to save him and then leave this country!", he talks in a low voice so Jess doesn't hear him.
"Are you sure, boy?"
"The only thing I'm sure about is that I can't let him in there after all the good he has done for this world and for me! He's my brother!"
"Okay, kid, I'm with you! We'll find a way!"
._._._._._._._._._.
"He has a brother!", Rockson informs him when he enters the office the next day.
"George Smith? How do we know that, if we don't even know his real name?", Sam is moving uncomfortably.
"We have a witness saying that he saw him one day leaving a house next to his, in which later a dead body was found, with another man talking about his brother and that he shouldn't call him. That makes me think that the brother may be innocent, but it will be a good information to make him talk!"
As long as Rockson is talking, Sam thinks that he'll faint. He tries not to seem shaken but now that they know that Dean has a brother, it's a matter of time to find him before he help him! But let's be logical
"Okay, but we know nothing else. There's no way to find him."
"Oh, Sam, you're supposed to be smart. We know that he wanted to call his brother, meaning that he has his number. Even though it isn't on the Contacts, he sure have called him once. We have Smith's, or whatever his name is, phone and we can find all his calls.. the deleted ones too. It will take some time but we will find the brother's number. And then the brother!", Rockson smiles but the only thing Sam is thinking is that he has very little time to help Dean!

Chapter 4
"Let's try this one.", Rockson presses the phone's buttons with determination. The last two hours they are at the police station where they informed them that they had a list with Dean's calls.
Sam's cell starts ringing. He catches it from his coat pocket and reads 'Dean'. Well, shit! He looks immediately at Rockson who looks at him back because of this coincidence.
"Sorry, my girlfriend. Can I?", he tries his BEST puppy eyes and THANKFULLY Rockson nods him to take the call. Once he's out of the building, he immediately turns it down and tries to stop shaking. Shit shit shit! Now that he hasn't pick up, Rockson will find this number suspicious and will search it to see who's name is behind! He was SO stupid to take his old phone with him! But then again he was talking all the time with Bobby and he needed to know anything new he may found. This number is from when he was still hunting with his family so the name behind it is fake, but it's only a matter of time for the police to find out! Shit! He should calm down and go back inside.
Once back inside.
"We're very close to find the brother!", Rockson grins widely.
"We are?!"
"Yes! We have three numbers that no one answered. Two of them are on names of people who's credits cards had been recorded were stolen. One of these two, or maybe both, is our guy! Here, take a look!"
Sam takes a look at the notebook in front of him and one of the numbers is his.. the other one is his father's. Well.. shit.
._._._._._._._._._.
"Damnit!", Bobby's rough voice echos through the phone.
"I know.. I don't have much time! Once they found dad's name behind the other number, we're screwed!"
"You need to talk to Dean! I have a guy who can help him out but he's in another prison. We have somehow to remove him there."
"And how the hell am I supposed to do that?!"
"Just listen to what I have to say, talk to your brother and after that we have to trust him to get himself out!"
._._._._._._._._._._.
"There's no way, Sam."
"But mr Rockson..."
"Look. I trust you, I really do, but you're too young here to let you talk to the defendant alone. More experienced colleagues haven't made him talk.. I haven't made him talk.. How will you?"
"I have thought of something.."
"We can go together then."
"No!"
"No?"
"He won't talk. He knows you. And you have tried."
"You've got a point but let me talk with the others first, okay?"
"Okay."

Chapter 5
He so shouldn't have agreed with this compromise! But it's too late now, while he opens the door and enters the room in which Dean is waiting.
"Sam...", he says but Sam tries to interrupt him as soon as possible, because what his brother doesn't know is that behind the mirror is a group of people who watch and listen their every move.
"It's mr Winchester for you, mr Smith!", Sam tries to sound hard but with his back on the mirror where the group can't see his face, he mouths a silent 'sorry'. At first Dean frozes but then seems to understand and plays along.
"So you're not the good cop as I thought", Dean laughs ironically.
"First of all, I'm a lawyer. The one who will give justice to all these people you hurt!", he continues and although he is pretending, he reads clearly Dean's glance that screams 'not funny!'. He gives an apologetic look to his brother but he keeps blaming him for things he knows for sure that will make Dean mad and are off limits. Everything they ever agreed NOT to tell to each other when they fight, he says it now. He's feeling guilty as hell, even though he knows that it's for a good cause. He HAVE to make Dean angry! And he's pretty sure that Dean sees red at the moment.
"Do you have to say anything about all that?", he comes closer to his brother who is looking at him very VERY angrily.. and then whispers 'hit me'. Dean frozes for one more time. But then notices Sam's pleading look and all he can do is to trust him. So the next thing he does is to connect his fist with his brother's nose. Sam pretends that he tries to defend himself and pushes Dean back on the wall. He's pretty sure by now, the little group behind the mirror will has been dissolved and moving into the room. Seconds before the door opens and a couple of hands separate them, Sam achieves to wisper at his brother 'Sorano prison, Bobby says to find Lucas Middle'.
._._._._._._._._._._.
"That's your way?!", Rockson shouts.
"I thought that a little psychological war would help..", Sam tries to apologize.
"The only thing it helped with is to almost broke your nose!"
"Nobody tried to make him angry before."
"And where do your plan brought us? Now he's just moved to Sorano for attacking one of us and we have to drive longer to interrogate him!"
"I'm sorry.", he's not sorry AT ALL. All he needs is to hear that his brother escaped!
"Look Sam. You're young and you'll make mistakes, but when I ask you to trust me, you should trust me. Otherwise, you should find someone else to have your training with."
There is NO way for Sam to leave now that he's so close to help Dean, so..
"No, you're right. I'll do as you say from now on."
._._._._._._._._._._.
The night comes and Sam's phone is ringing.
"Bobby?"
"He'll be out in about an hour! Wait for him behind the old factory a few kilometers away from the prison!"
"I'm on my way!"
He tells Jess that he forgot an important book at Joseph's and he have to go get it and in a second he's out of the door. At first he drives his car, till he reaches a big parking outside a Walmart. It's the first time after four years that he's going to steal a car. But when he's on the road again with the new car, he feels as if not a day had passed. He's behind the old factory focused on the trail on the front and trying to see his brother's figure, that he hardly listens his phone ringing. For a moment he thinks it's Bobby but them realises that it's his new one which is ringing. Who calls him after midnight? He looks the caller ID. Rockson?
"Hey Sam"
"Umm.. mr Rockson?", he tries to sound tired and maybe asleep.
"Did I wake you up?"
"I was about to go to bed. What happened?"
"We found the brother Sam." SHIT!
"W-what? Are you sure?"
"Pretty much sure. We located his phone. And guess what! Right now he's at the same place with you!" FUCKING SHIT!
"In my house?!", he REALLY tries to sound surprised.
"No Sam. Not in your house. Since I am in your house right now and you're not there. You mind explain that?!", he definitely sounds threatening. At the moment, the passenger's door opens and a very out of breath Dean comes in. Immediately Sam closes the phone, throws it at Dean and gets the hell out of where he's parked!
"Whoa! Easy, Sam! They'll hear us!"
"Rockson found me! They already know! Turn off the phones, Dean!"
"What?! When?!"
"They know where I am, Dean! TURN OFF THE FUCKING PHONES!"
"OKAY! Okay! Calm down! Everything's gonna be okay!", Dean turns off the phones and they hear sirens from afar.
"They'll catch us!"
"Sam, stop it! I made it out and we know every little road of almost the whole America!"
"I'm so sorry, Dean!"
"For what?"
"For this right now!"
"Shut up, Sam!"
"Fuck! Why should I always let you down?!", at this point Sam doesn't really think before he speaks.
"Let me down? You never have let me down, Sam!"
"For God's shake! I left you Dean!"
"You didn't left me, Sammy! You just wanted to go to College! To do what every 18 year old kid does! And right now you lost this chance, you throw away four years of hard work to just save my bacon! And it's not fair Sam! It's not! If someone letting someone else down then surely this is me!"
"You DON'T let me down! And whatever decision I made, it was mine! You never told me what to do! You always supported me! And if I have to choose between my job and my brother again, then there is no question that this time I learned my lesson!"
"There is no lesson to learn, Sammy! I know dad said some words back then but you don't have to feel bad for just going to College.", Dean speaks more softly.
"For me there is, Dean. I wanted so bad to be normal that I always blocked away the feeling that I wasn't belonging where I was. I was at a great law school, with good friends and a girlfriend I love but I never fitted in as I was with you and dad and Bobby and all the others. I was adapting but I never felt the ease I had before."
"I'm sorry to hear that.."
"So for me that was a lesson.. And I'm not willing to let it happen again."
"What about that girlfriend of yours?"
"I love her. But I can't drag her into this world, Dean. I love her too much to destroy her life just because I want her with me."
"You sure, Sammy?"
They don't hear the sirens anymore and he stops the car next to his brother's Impala. Next to their real home.
"Bobby told me where you had parked it. Let's move quickly!", he's out of the stolen car and he's about to open Baby's passenger door when Dean's voice stops him.
"Sammy.. you're sure?"
"Why were you hunting alone, Dean?"
Dean wasn't expecting that question but he decides to answer anyway.
"Dad's on a hunting trip and he hasn't been home for a few days. He just sends coordinates for hunts for me to go."
"So no ones has your back."
"I have my back!", he smiles but when Sam doesn't, his fades.
"Then I'm sure.", Sam points up and opens the door.
Once they're both inside.
"I missed you, man.", Dean dares to say.
"Missed you too, big brother.", Sam smiles.
"Are you ready?"
"We have work to do."
