Wishes do come true
Brittany has always been a wisher. She always keeps extra pennies on her in case she sees a water fountain. She always wishes upon shooting stars that glide across the sky. She would pray at night to no one in particular because she believed that somehow the universe would find a way to make it happen. And this was nothing different.
She has been remined of it for the past 19 years of her life. 19 Christmases, 19 New years', 19 valentine's days alone.
She has obviously gone out with people before but never got to a point where that would celebrate a holiday together. She has been told that she's pretty her entire life and she knows that she is. But she has never liked someone to the point of dating them before. Well, that was all until 18 months ago.
You see Brittany was in her second year of college and was out at the mall with her friend Quinn when she had stumbled upon the greatest miracle to ever happen to her. Quite literally.
*Sunday*
"Q, I really don't know why you're worried," Brittany had questioned while she and Quinn had been out shopping that day "Rachel would never leave you, especially for Jesse St James, just because she got the lead role in Funny girl."
"I know, I know. It's just that she's so perfect and what if one day she final realise that I'm not good enough for her and-"
Brittany tuned out as her best friend launched into another speech about how perfect her girlfriend was to instead glance around the mall to see what they should do next. She almost choked on her ice cream cone when she spotted the telling sparkle of midnight black hair and fiery brown eyes from across the rowdy shopping centre. Upon sensing the shift in the other blondes demeanour, Quinn looked in the direction that Brittany had been gawking at for the last few seconds.
"Oh," Quinn sighed out in recognition of the Latina that had Brittany stood frozen in her place "You know," Quinn sang out "You should ask her out already because this whole admiring from afar thing isn't doing either of you favours and is actually becoming pretty ridiculous at this point."
"What?" Brittany asked as she snapped out of her daze at the sound of Quinn's teasing.
"At first it was funny ridiculous because you both clearly like each other but refuse to do anything more than disgustingly cute flirting."
"Says the girl who leaves love notes in her girlfriend's lunch." Brittany interrupted
"This though is pathetic ridiculous."
"Rude." Brittany once again interrupted
"But true. Seriously you should ask her out now that her and Dani broke up." Quinn nudged her friend a bit to emphasize her point
"Just because she and her girlfriend aren't together any more doesn't mean that she wants to immediately jump into another relationship."
"What about this is rushed Britt?" Quinn quizzed with a pointed eyebrow "You've been study buddies for a year and a half, and she broke up with Dani 3 weeks ago."
"Well, it doesn't matter because she doesn't like me like I like her. She's the top cheerleader- "
"Rude." Quinn muttered, offended that her friend seemingly forgot about her place on the same cheer squad
"She's like the top of all her classes, she's funny and gorgeous and confident and witty and passionate and, and she's perfect." Brittany let out a sigh of adoration as she thought more about the star cheerleader
Sensing that Brittany didn't want to go into any more detail about her massive crush Quinn changed the subject. "Well, if you're not going to woman up and ask her out then you might as well go wish on it while I get us some pretzels."
"Okay," Brittany perked up at the idea of wishing in the fountain a few meters away from them "I want a cinnamon and sugar pretzel."
Brittany wandered away from Quinn. She sat on the side of the fountain, pulled out a penny and closed her eyes. Holding the penny to her heart, she began to whisper her wish.
"I wish to finally have a girlfriend for Valentine's Day this year." She opened her eyes and chucked the penny into the base fountain. With all said and done she pushed herself up to her feet and turned around.
Unfortunately, she hadn't realised someone coming up behind her and instead crashed into them. She wobbled for a second but luckily the other person was able to steady her before she fell.
"Whoa, steady there," She heard them say with a chuckle "I was just coming over to say hi, but this works to I guess."
Finally, she recognised the voice of the mystery person, and she couldn't have gone redder then she already figured she was.
"Oh, hi Santana," she awkwardly choked out "Didn't see you there."
"I can tell." Santana smirked
"How are you?"
"I'm good just came out shopping with Mercedes and a couple cheerleading friends. I saw you over here and decided I could use a break from their obsession with reminding me that Valentine's Day is coming up and I am semi-newly single."
"How are you handling the break-up."
"I'm doing fine. My friend Sugar is actually throwing a singles only Valentine's party the Saturday before, you should totally come. Sugar's dad is loaded so her parties are always super over the top but 100% worth the major hangover you are sure to have the next day."
"Yeah I might come." Suddenly, Quinn appeared by Brittany's side with two pretzels in hand.
"Hi, Satan."
"Hey, Lucy." Santana rolled her eyes in greeting
"Here's your pretzel, B." Quinn turned her attention to Brittany
Santana's phone dinged and she reached into her pocket
"Anyway, Mercedes is looking for me, so I have to go before she uses all the money on my card," She pocketed her phone again "Bye Britt, bye Q."
"Bye San."
"Goodbye S"
*Saturday*
Brittany had been stressing out all day. It was the day of Sugar's party and to say that she was in way over her head would be an understatement. She picked out her outfit yesterday only to put it on today and suddenly hate it. She didn't know what to do but panic. Luckily she had Quinn.
"Calm down B. We still have 45 minutes before we have to leave, and Sugar's house is only 10 minutes away."
"How am I supposed to calm down when everything is going wrong!" Brittany exclaimed waving her previous dress option in the air "Like seriously what was I thinking? This dress I horrible!"
"And I'm supposed to be the dramatic one." Rachel muttered from on the couch
"And why are you here?" Brittany questioned, shooting daggers into Rachel with her glare, and stormed back into her room to carry on the hunt for a new outfit.
"Well Kurt and Blaine kicked me out of my own apartment because they wanted quote on quote alone time." Rachel replied in a huff
"Plus, she's my girlfriend." Quinn added from Brittany's bedroom doorway.
"Yeah, yeah like I'm not reminded ever time I see her with her feet up on the coffee table in my apartment."
After more huffs and half meant comments they all finally left to Sugar's house. Brittany's heart was pounding, her head was telling her to just turn the other way and go back home but luckily Quinn was driving not her. To soon she found herself climbing out the backseat of Quinn's car and walking up the steps to Sugar's massive doorway entrance.
