I love this crack ship I love shipping Robin with nonbinary Beast Boy who goes by Changeling/Field instead of Beast Boy/Garfield. I knew right away that I had to write a little proposal fic for them for pride month.
Needless to say, don't read this if you don't like LGBTQ themes/people/etc. And don't read this if you just like, hate this ship because you ship these two in different ships because I can confidently tell you that I ALSO ship these two in different ships. I like multishipping. I might ship the same things as you do I just happen to be writing this ship right now.
They'd been joking about it for a long time now, but Field had wanted to be a legal adult when they properly proposed to Robin. So Valentine's day and their February 22nd birthday passed without a word about rings or weddings. And then March 17th rolled around. There was nothing special about that day except that it was their second anniversary. And perhaps that meant they were going too fast, but again, Field had been making comments about marriage for a while. They'd been making those jokes when they were Gar, then Elm, and then the one they'd settled on, Field. And Robin had been there for them every step of the way. That was one of the things Field loved about him. It was one of the things Field had noted in the proposal speech.
They just had to get up the nerve to propose. All day the ring was burning a hole through their pocket and the speech was on loop in their mind. They could hardly enjoy the anniversary, which Robin had insisted on planning.
Robin must have noticed the distractedness.
"Earth to Field? You okay? If you're not having a good time we could do something else."
"No, I'm having a good time. I'm just thinking about how unbelievably lucky I am to have been with you for two years, Bird." Field reached in their pocket for the ring.
"I feel the same. I adore you, Beast." Robin leaned over and kissed them, causing Field to forget about the ring. The kiss worked a little too well, actually, pulling Field away from their plan and the proposal for the rest of the evening.
They were in their pajamas in bed when they remembered what they had been planning to do that day. Half the speech had leaked out of their head onto the pillow and they barely remembered to grab the ring box from their jeans in their haste, but at approximately 12:21 AM on March 18th they were standing outside of their lover's door. They knocked with urgency, obscuring the ring box behind their back.
"Field? Baby, what's wrong? Is something wrong? What are you doing up so late?" Robin looked disheveled, with his usually perfect hair mussed up and his PJs consisting only of a pair of yellow gym shorts. Field had never been more in love with him.
"What am I doing? I'm doing what I should have done earlier when it was still our anniversary." Field dropped down to their knee and pulled out the ring box.
"Richard John Grayson, I love you more than words can say. I am indebted to you for always being there through every single one of my phases and changes. You are the one thing in my life that's solid. Thank you, I love you, will you marry me?"
Robin burst into tears, crashing into Field's arms and no doubt waking up everyone else in Titans Tower.
"Of course I'll marry you, Beast," Robin said when he managed to stop crying and tried on his pretty silver ring.
"I love you, Bird. Forever and always."
