An eleven-year-old boy stood crouched in a hall that led out to an excited arena. He had green and fluffy hair, reminiscent of that like a bush. He bore four freckles on each cheek in the shape of a diamond, and had round eyes that were full of nervousness. His fluffy green tail stuck out from a hole in baggy yellow Gi pants with red high tops on his feet. His torso was covered in a light blue Gi that would've shown off his chest had he not been wearing a bush green T-Shirt underneath.

This was Izuku Midoriya, a tailed-bearer without a quirk. It was honestly something that had never been heard of at his age. Tails had appeared before quirks, and despite being recessive more often than not, someone with a tail would have a quirk too. This of course led into laws and special forms of counseling for what these tails brought, but that's for later.

Over all, it was Izuku's nature as quirkless that had him worried. His mother had signed him up for a junior division tournament, and the Gi he had been wearing was the one she wore, and her father wore it before her, and so on. All of them had won, but to Izuku's knowledge, that was because they had stronger! Or they were good at martial arts. HE WAS NEITHER OF THOSE! He thinks. His mother had been teaching him since he was 7, and she said that he learned really well but he has no way to be sure of that himself. There was no one that could've been on "his level" for him to practice what he could do against. Everyone felt stronger, especially Kacchan. He jumped as his name had been called out along with his opponent's.

Rather than try and walk out to the arena, he immediately began to walk in the other direction. He couldn't do this, he was just going get hurt, hecouldnthecouldnthecouldnt-

His train of thought was stopped along with his movement as a weight shifted in his pocket. He sighed, taking it out and looking at it. It was a peculiar ball shaped jewel, his mother's good luck charm. He put it away, and faced back to the arena and began to walk out. He could feel the sweat start to form on his brow as he stepped out into the light. He was immediately bombarded with the cheers of the crowd, all chanting for him to have a good match. Which was new for him. But on the front row seat was his mother, cheering him on. Over everyone in the arena she felt the loudest, like he wasn't just hearing her words, but the sheer emotions of how proud she was. It was like they were acting as he presence as they screamed;

"You can do it Izuku!"

Izuku snapped his gaze forward, a new vigor entering his body as he heard his opponent step out.

"AAAAND ON THE OTHER SIDE, WE HAVE IZUKU'S OPPONENT FOR THIS MATCH: BAKUGO KATSUKI!" The eccentric and energetic announcer shouted. Izuku's heart nearly stopped before he steeled himself after hearing who he would be fighting. How goddamn convenient. His only saving grace might be that the tournament held an Anti-Quirk policy, as it was meant to prove one's skill, not just their sheer power.

Izuku's opponent stepped on to the arena in a strange getup. He was wearing a dark grey, slightly baggy, bodysuit that cut off mid-thigh and he no sleeves with a hole in the back for brown monkey-like tail to slip through. He wore simple white boots and fingerless gloves as well, with the most prominent thing he had on being the look of absolute disdain on his face at Izuku. The two boys stared each other down, Katsuki just waiting for the match to start. His hands twitched, holding back the instinct to use his explosions lest he actually lose to Deku due to a stupid rule. He would show Deku, he would show him in front of everyone why he could never be a hero.

"BEGIN!"

The sandy-blonde ran at Izuku yelling ferociously as he ran. Which caused Izuku notice something. Katsuki seemed…much slower. He had no time to think much about that however, Bakugo lead with a right hook.

"Like he always does!" Izuku suddenly blurted out in his head. To his surprise, he dodged to Katsuki's right with incredible ease. He easily retaliated, slugging the other boy in the chin with a clean uppercut, sending the blonde on to his back. Katsuki, looking confused, dazed, and angry, got back up and went back on the attack at Izuku.

"You stupid- fucking- Deku! STAND STILL!" The explosive boy yelled in anger that Izuku was the one winning. Izuku was easily dodging Katsuki's wild swings.

"He-he's slower…his quirk made up for not being able to be right in close combat and gave him a boost in speed, but still let him get in hits before he reached me…" Izuku quickly analyzed.

Katsuki was physically powerful, sure, but he let his ability to fight come from just his quirk! Take that away and, well, how much of a threat he is drops a good bit. He could hear his aunt Mitsuki scolding/encouraging Katsuki to do better, while admonishing him for getting overconfident with his quirk.

"QUIET YOU OLD HAG!" Katsuki screamed at his mother on the sidelines. As a swing just whizzed past him, on instinct Izuku slammed a fist into Katsuki's chest. The wind was knocked from the boy's chest and he stepped back. Izuku didn't let up once he saw his chance. He threw two hooks that slammed against Katsuki's cheeks one after the other. With Katsuki's disorientation, Izuku took a brief look around the surroundings. They were near the edge of the arena because Izuku had been moving back the whole time. Fast than he thought he ever was, he dashed behind Katsuki and kicked the back of his knees. His legs buckled as another foot planted itself into his back and knocked him out of bounds.

Izuku was in shock. He just…won. He won! He couldn't help but smile a little as the crowds cheered for him.

"WITH AN AMAZING DISPLAY OF SKILL, FOCUS, AND POWER FOLKS, IZUKU MIDORIYA COMES OUT AS THE WINNER!" This serves only to bolster the cheers he got. However, rather than bask in it, Izuku got so flustered he looked like a tomato.

"Th-th-th-thank y-y-you…th-this w-was f-f-fun." The boy shakily said. He quickly dashed of the little arena. As he got into the hallway again, he took out the small jewel.

"Thank you…grandpa." Izuku whispered to the orange jewel. He could've sworn it had glowed, but it might've just been it reflecting the light behind him. He continued walking on, that way he could wait for his next match.

The tournament had continued on, but Izuku did not stand as the winner. Once his next round in the quarterfinals came up, he had lost to a boy with better martial arts than his. Curiously, the boy had a much thicker tail than normal. It was probably due to a mutation of some kind, but still, the loss had knocked him down a peg he was unaware he had gotten up on.

Yeah, Kacchan was strong, especially with his quirk, but he wasn't the strongest. When a redhead girl had beaten the boy with the thick tail, a message became clear to Izuku. There was always someone stronger. That message was something he took care to remember. It didn't matter how strong he was himself, never get cocky about it. That way, it hurt less when you were knocked down. It was a lesson that stuck with him for the next three years. Speaking of which, falling was Izuku's current situation.

You see, Izuku is a very short person, having only ever reached a height of 4'5". Meanwhile, Katsuki was 5'9" feet easily. So forcefully bumping into someone while making sure to step on their tail will definitely throw them down. As the floor rapidly approached, Izuku braced himself and tried to bring his hands up to let those take the damage. Then an incredible pain shot up his spine and through his nerves.

"AAAAH OW OW OW OH GOD MY TAIL! MY TAIL! WHO'S HOLDING IT! LET GO! LET GO!" Izuku shouted in his head. On the outside, he had simply gone limp and was now a pile on the floor. His tail was grasped a bit tightly in the hand of a very tall figure.

"O-Oh my gosh! I-I'm so sorry! I was just trying to help, I meant to use my quirk on you so I just grabbed what I could!" The compassionate voice said as it allowed Izuku's tail to slip free from the grip. Izuku stood back up a hit shakily, and cracked his back before turning around.

"I-It's fine y-you didn't m-mean to it was an accideee…." What had paused Izuku sentence was how friggin tall she was. Izuku's eyes were on level with her chest, which he avoided looking at by just staring up at her round face, framed by two strands of hair that seemed to complete her bob cut. Izuku began to stammer as he tried to say…anything. It was hard for him to because she was two things that just struck right for Izuku: she was tall, and she was pretty. To be honest, it wasn't hard to check off the box of 'tall' for Izuku. To him, if you weren't on eye level at him at all, you were tall to him. Even his mother fit these criteria, and she had lost a bit of height with age.

"Y-You- uh- I- um- big…" He said, whispering out the last word. However, the girl couldn't quite hear him from down there, so she unintentionally did something that made him even more flustered. She bent down to hear him, forgetting that some might think of this as rude. Izuku's whole face went red, and he knew he had to get out of there before he passed out.

"THANKSFORCATCHINGMEBYEEE!" He shouted as he ran into the building.

"W-Wait! I didn't catch what you said still!" The girl called out to him, but Izuku was just booking it.

"ONLY BE A LITTLE WEIRD AFTER ONE WEEK OF SCHOOL IZUKU! GET IT TOGETHER, YOU'RE NOT EVEN ENROLLED YET!" He scolded himself the entire time.

Throughout most of the entrance exam, Izuku had done his best to avoid talking to anyone in case he would embarrass himself about something else. But now came the time for the practical exam's instructional phase.

All the participants were seated in an auditorium as the stage in the center suddenly lit up. Any murmurings were ceased as a man rose from the center. His hair was swooped back and upward and reminded some people of a cockatoo. Around his neck was a device that looked like some kind of speaker, and the man's brown tail was loosely wrapped around his waist like a belt.

"HEEEEEELLOO EVERYBODY! I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY WELCOME TO THE YUUEI ENTRANCE EXAMS, AND PREPARE TO BE SORE AFTER THIS!" Present Mic announced. He began to explain how the test would be working.

"IF YOU'LL LOOK AT THE PACKET IN FRONT OF YOU, YOU'LL FIND A CARD! THIS'LL HAVE YOUR TEST AREA ON IT, SO IF YOU HAVE TERRIBLE MEMORY, YOU'LL WANNA KEEP IT ON YOU! IN YOUR TEST AREA, YOU'LL FIND THAT YOU WILL BE FACING ROBOTS! EACH ONE BEING WORTH DIFFERENT NUMBER OF POINTS!" Present Mic went into further detail about each robot, even one worth no points at all. Which seemed odd to make. But, oh well, it was time for everyone to get on their way.

Observation Room

A blonde, decently muscled man with sunken eyes looked over the participant files, not only looking at those that may have the best chance at passing, but a candidate for a special project. His searching had paused when he came across a blank quirk entry.

He looked at the participant it belonged to, a short, unassuming, green haired boy. The only unique things listed about him was the fact that his tail was abnormally long for someone of his stature, but other than that…nothing. He sighed to himself. It just looked like there was another quirkless contestant with dreams too dangerous for his own good. A scar near his stomach had a pang of of faint pain from a memory.

"What is it Toshinori." A tired voice said from behind him. The blonde jumped before quickly putting the papers back together. He handed them backward to his colleague, as a brown tail took the papers.

"J-Just looking over the participants."

"Hm…"

Izuku nervously stood with the other contestants near a gate. He was once again wearing the blue Gi he had worn so long ago at the tournament. Solely because he didn't have anything like a tracksuit, and this still fit fine for him. He looked around at the contestants, noting how confident a lot of them seemed. Well, it would make sense. These guys all have had a long time to train with their quirks, while he still had none despite his strength. It was highly possible for everyone to out preform him. He gently rubbed his tail to try and distract himself from his own doubts.

"GO!"

"Huh?" For a moment everyone was confused at the sudden command. But everyone quickly got the memo and dashed into the arena. This is where Izuku surprised himself! He was keeping up just fine! It might not be so bad!

Everyone began branching off and taking their own path, displaying their own unique quirks as they battled the robots.

Izuku was a bit worried, he hadn't gotten a robot his way yet, but was relieved as a two-pointer charged at him. He ran right at it, making a blonde spectator anxiously grip the arms of his chair. Unlike what people would think would've happened, the quirkless, but tailed young man punched through the metal of the robot and right into the robot's head. However, it was still moving. Izuku panicked, and quickly began grabbing around at the inside of the metal beast's head and ripping things up. The robot finally stopped its activity, which gave Izuku a moment of relief before he had to get back to work. With a smile on his face and extra motivation, he continued his destructive spree.

Observation Room

Toshinori was surprised by the boy's show in power. Despite being listed as quirkless, he's already proven to either have improved strength or durability. Was it a recent development? That should be impossible, especially at this age. At least it couldn't be done without 'help.' His tail, slightly crooked in spots and being short of fur in some spots, coiled and uncoiled anxiously.

"No. He's been gone or this long already. He's not coming back. It was a full moon that night. He couldn't have recovered after that." He rationalized to himself. But deep down, he knew he was wrong.

Test Site

Throughout the test Izuku found himself to be doing pretty well. Sure, he looked a bit ragged, but he was still going strong! If he counted correctly, he had about 20 points! Maybe he would be able to get in if he kept things up! But then something came to mind, the 0-pointer. It was almost the end of the test and he hasn't even seen one! Maybe because they were worth nothing people just ended up picking them off because they were in the way.

But his line of thought was cut off as a deep rumbling echoed throughout the city. Izuku turned around shakily, his tail going stiff as a rod. Peering over the top of the model buildings were eight glowing red eyes on a rectangular head. There was a giant 0 painted on its body. This was the 0 pointer. He began sputtering as he tripped on his feet and fell on his tail sending a jolt of pain through his body that made it harder for him to move. The other participants began running in the opposite direction thanks to some advice from Present Mic.

"If you see the 0-pointer, I JUST RECOMMEND DASHING! IT LITERALLY ISN'T WORTH FIGHTING!"

Izuku himself wanted to follow that advice, but his tail was sandwiched between his butt and a rock which was paralyzing him.

"Damn it! Get up! GET UP YOU IDIOT YOU'RE GONNA DIE!" Izuku screamed at himself mentally. He was caught in the worst position ever, stuck in a self-paralysis and no one was even trying to help.

"H-Help!"

Izuku's eyes snapped open. Before he could even process the voice, or even how he could do anything, his body found strength through she heroic will. He shouted as he pushed through the pain burning in his nerves and began running to go and help the helpless. He found a purple haired girl buried under so rubble. He moved as fast as he could, bashing aside the rubble to try and get her freed.

"C-Can you move?!" He asked her.

"M-My t-tail…" She said weakly. He looked at the spot above her kinda big butt and found a purple tail trailing off to the side and pinned under rock, spasming painfully. He threw the rocks off it as the tank treads of the giant machine approached. He finally got her freed enough to pull herself out, and she began to make a shaky crawl away that moved up to a stumbling walk.

"She's injured." Izuku thought. As she was about to fall over, Izuku got under her and, wow she's kinda tall, well, taller than Izuku at least. He quickly began dragging her away, ignoring the headphone jacks that were lightly tapping against the sides of his face. The rumbling just got louder and louder as he continued to try and run with the girl in tow. She was talking to him as he ran but he was ignoring it in favor of focusing on running. Damn it! There was no way he was gonna be able to our run it!

"AAAAAND TIMES UUUUP!"

Thank God for the bell. He gently set down the girl he had been dragging along with him.

"Hey, thanks for that green." She said casually. Izuku felt a bit odd about the sudden nickname, but didn't protest to it. He got a better look at the girl now that she was sitting down, she had purple hair cut short like a bowl cut but with a fringe, half-lidded eyes that carried an indifferent expression. So, in short, it was another tall and pretty girl.

"Um- uh- I'll just- I need- bye…" Izuku pitifully muttered out as he began to make his way to the exit. At the same time, recovery girl came along to help the injured.
