Hey guys, I'm back with day five todays prompt is dancing this is actually inspired by a Terra Aqua prompt from two years ago I think I can't quite remember but the fanfic is called Pages in a Book so check it out if you have the time. With that said enjoy the chapter.
Dancing was one of Dakota's favorite things in the world. To express herself by movement, to feel the rush of adrenalin was one of the reasons she became a performer. Today was a lucky day when Master Eraqus called everyone to the ballroom and announced a dance lesson.
"Now, I don't normally do this so close to a Mastery Exam, but with the recent arrival of our new guests, I've decided to hold a ball tomorrow night in their honor. As such, I believe it would do you all good to learn the ropes for when you're invited to fancy dances in other worlds." The Master explained,
"Sounds fun. I've never learned to ballroom dance before." Sora smiled,
"Um, Sora, it's called waltzing." Kairi corrected with a giggle,
"Oh, um, right, I knew that." The spiky brunette laughed sheepishly,
"So, are you two going to dance together?" Aqua questioned, approaching the two.
"I don't see why not. Sora, would you like to dance?" Kairi offered,
"Yeah, I would love to." He beamed; Kairi took Sora's hand and led him to a nice spot.
"So, who are you going to dance with?" Terra questioned to a brooding Vanitas who had his back against the wall. "I mean, it's better to be having fun than pouting on your own."
"I don't have plans to dance with anyone. Why don't you worry about your girlfriend instead?" He remarked arrogantly,
"Hey, Aqua isn't my—"
"Terra, don't let him mess with your head." Riku approached, putting a hand on Terra's shoulder, "He's only salty because we found him when we weren't meant to. You know, for someone who was meant to be hidden. You didn't do a great job." He laughed,
"Until Dakota found me last night, I was. I wasn't expecting her to pick up on my Darkness that easily; she's good. I'll give her that." Vanitas admitted,
"She is, not only that, but you're a good friend of hers. Do you remember us?" Riku questioned,
"No, wish I did. She's a nice girl. But there is something familiar about her, something I can't seem to grasp." He said, letting his mental mask fall a little.
"Well, you might not be able to remember everything, but I'm sure some of it will return to you. By the way, you might get a little dance partner after all." Riku smiled, walking off to a nervous Chloe.
"Wait, what do you mean?!" The spiky raven questioned, but Riku just smiled and leaned down to whisper into the angel's ear.
"Now's your chance."
"I don't know if I can do it, Riku. I can't breathe, and my heart is about to beat out of my chest. He's so cute I can't take it." She explained,
"I know asking someone you like can be nerve-wracking. But the worst that can happen is him saying no; you'll be fine, I promise." Riku said, patting her head,
"You're right. I've got nothing to worry about. Thanks, Riku." She waved, skipping towards the Darkened Boy, but the closer she got, the more her nerves threatened to get the better of her.
"H-Hi Vanitas." She greeted nervously,
"Hey, Chloe, right? What do you want?" He questioned,
"Well, I um, the thing is…." She paused, summoning the courage to ask him, "Vanitas do you want to dance with me?!" She shouted, already regretting asking.
Vanitas was shocked at first, but a genuine smile settled on his face as he knelt down to pat the little Heartless Angel. "That's a cute request, but I'm afraid you're a little too short for me to dance with."
Chloe removed Vanitas's hand and focused all her power to change into her human form. Now she was taller, had blond hair, and looked to be the age of fifteen despite drying at age five.
"B-Better?" She questioned, a nervous blush on her face.
"You know I think I can go for a dance or two." He replied, bushing a little at how cute she was.
"How about three?" Chloe muttered, not expecting an answer.
"Okay, deal." He nodded, taking the blond by the hand.
"Seems like everyone's getting partnered up," Ventus observed,
"Yeah, even Vanitas got a partner. Wasn't expecting Chloe to ask him to dance." Dakota replied, even though she knew Chloe was catching feelings for the boy.
"Hey, Dakota, have you ever waltzed before?" Ven asked,
"I haven't had a slow dance partner in a long time. I had the chance of dancing with a boy I had a huge crush on when I was ten, but let's just say when you live in a supernatural hotspot. Plans change." Dakota replied,
"What happened?"
"Nothing bad other than an old enemy returning on the night of the school dance and nearly made me give up the slow dance."
"Ouch, I hate it when that happens. It's a good thing nothing will interrupt our dance." He smiled,
"What about you? Have you learned to waltz yet?" Dakota questioned,
"Yeah, I love to dance. I've loved to move with music for as long as I can remember. I normally dance with Aqua since she's the only girl here. But I was wondering do you want to dance?"
"I would love to." She blushed, feeling her heartbeat pick up.
"Great, I was hoping you'd say yes. It would be nice to dance with someone my age."
"You're two years older than me." The girl stated, raising an eyebrow.
"It's still pretty close."
Dakota pondered on that for a second. "Okay, you've got a point."
Master Eraqus put on an old record, and everyone got into position.
"Are you nervous?" Ven asked, leading the way,
"Yes." She replied,
"Don't be. I've got you. You can trust me." Ventus gave a reassuring smile, and Dakota returned it with an uncertain one.
Ven put his arm on Dakota's waist, and she did the same. Her legs felt like Jelly. Any moment now, they could give out, leaving her collapsed on the floor.
That's one way to make an impression. She thought Ventus led her slowly, trying to get her used to the rhythm. The steps were easy enough, but the constant fear of stepping on her crush's foot and embarrassing herself occupied her mind.
Ventus noticed her discomfort and broke her away from the group leading them to a nearby wall.
"What's wrong?" She asked, worried she had done something to upset him.
"Nothing's wrong. I noticed you were uncomfortable, so I decided to let you rest for a moment. It's okay, Dakota. I understand you're nervous. I'll give you a moment to calm down. Just let me know when you're ready to dance again." Ven said,
Dakota sat down and took some deep breaths, letting her heartbeat return to normal. She didn't know if she dared to ask Ventus to dance again; she was so nervous she couldn't even look at him. She looked at all her friends dancing with huge smiles on their faces, and she felt kind of left out. She wanted to ask Ven to dance again, but the moment he looked at her, she decided against it.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Ven suddenly spoke,
"What?" Dakota inquired, finally facing him,
"I can tell somethings bothering you. I thought maybe I could help. You know I'm here for you, right?"
"Of course, I do, Ven. I trust you. It's just I'm having a little trouble trusting myself." The performer explained, laying her chin on her knees.
"What do you mean?" The spiky blond wondered, sitting next to her.
"I'm worried about stepping on your toes or embarrassing myself. I can't feel my legs, and I fear they're going to give out on me. I don't want to embarrass you either it's probably better if I sit this one out."
Ventus chuckled and shook his head, "Dakota, even if you did do those things, I wouldn't hate you. I wanted to ask you to dance because I like you, but I never wanted to make you this nervous. I understand if you don't want to give it another go, why don't we stay here until the lesson is over. Master Eraqus will understand." He reassured,
Dakota nodded and let her mind focus on the music. It was nice to let her worries melt away. Soon the song changed, and her body began to sway; she was so lost in the music she didn't notice Ventus take her hand and started dancing with her.
"Let's give this another shot, shall we?"
Dakota allowed her heart guide her body in a motion of twirls, leaps, and giggles. For the first time, she felt free, her worries were gone, and all she could focus on was the smiling boy in front of her. Soon the song ended, and Ventus pulled her into a dip. Everyone applauded the stunning performance.
Dakota laughed breathlessly, "Ha, that was fun."
"It was. Thanks for dancing with me, Dakota." Ventus smiled,
Dakota couldn't control the urge as she leaned in and kissed him. "You're welcome."
Ventus was surprised by the gesture at first but decided he liked it as he cupped Dakota's cheeks and kissed her back.
"V-Ven?" She stuttered; face reddened by the sudden kiss.
"You know something, Dakota, I think we're going to be the talk of the ball tomorrow night," Ventus said, and Dakota realized she didn't mind that. After all, she's got the best dance partner in the world.
Aww wasn't that adorable? I love writing dancing scenes between the two and I think more will come in future fanfics. Next prompt is called Nightmares, any fan of Lost Hearts' Lullaby will love this one.
