"Troublesome." Shikamaru scoffed with piercing eyes glaring into the distance.

It was close to midnight. Stars cascaded the sky within a navy blue hue. He was on his way back to the leaf with his team before getting stopped by Kankuro who happened to be hiding out of sight. After prompting them that he'd catch up in a bit, Shikamaru was greeted with a punch that nearly hit him in the face. Kankuro explained the note his sister had left and how odd he thought it was. He didn't look happy, he was ready to battle as if his sister was dead, yet he kept his composure and only showed his blood craving anger through facial expressions.

"I had nothing to do with her disappearance, and for you to assume I did is annoying."

Kankuro looked the shinobi up and down with his arms crossed. Temari was never one to leave a note behind or anything in general. She left her fan, all of her equipment and none of her clothes were touched. Even when his sister would leave she would at least bring a kunai, yet all of them were untouched in their cases.

"I didn't follow you all the way here to get nagged. Anyone who wrote that letter should have known she doesn't even like cursive, and she would never leave without physically approaching me or Gaara to let us know." With furrowed brows and a closed fist, Kankuro rolled his eyes.

"Drop the snarky shit. You know something."

Before Shikamaru knew it, Kankuro dragged him by his collar behind a tree. Shikamaru tried to release his shadow possession jutsu but by that time Kankuro had already got him caught in his puppet strings.

Kankuro's voice was low and raspy. He knew Shikamaru knew that he knew about their private ongoing relationship.

"I don't want to fight you, and I don't need this getting out. Tell me where my sister is because I know for a fact you were with her last night."

"Ngh." Shikamaru let out a grunt and relaxed his shoulders before being let loose from the puppet strings.

"-If you did something to my sister-" he gritted his teeth and growled.

"-no, I didn't. I would never hurt her. She's kicked my ass so many times you think I could really take her on? Someone named Hidan has been stalking her. And he hasn't physically hurt her but he's constantly playing mind games that puts her in some sort of frozen state."

Shikamaru cupped his hands and took a deep breath.

"Unless you know something about this Hidan character I don't really know what to tell you. Me and Asuma were gonna try and gather intel about him on the side."

Kankuro straightened himself up and looked over at the lazy ninja.

"I'm gonna let Baki know and send some anbu out on a private rescue mission. Find out who the fuck this Hidan character is and find my sister, Shikamaru. I swear if she's dead I'll use your body as a base for one of my puppets." And with the blink of an eye, Kankuro vanished.

"Great way to treat your brother in-law."

Shikamaru caught himself in his thoughts and laughed.

"Brother in-law? Really Shikamaru? Marriage is stupid." He rubbed his elbow and dusted himself off, getting back to his path.

"I really hope she's okay... she IS okay, they don't call her the cruelest kunoichi for no reason right?"

"Stop worrying about her. She's fine. Why am I worrying so much?" Shikamaru slapped his forehead and shook his head grunting.

The thought of her getting kidnapped out of all people was preposterous and unrealistic. Her battle tactics were unmatched and the way she'd slap and punch him for saying stupid things alone already proved that even her 'vulnerable state' was strong.

"But she brought no weapons? Was she trying to one on one him with her hands? But he's an entity? Unless he revealed his true form? Why didn't she change clothes? Wear shoes? No gear?"

He had thought of over 200 possibilities in his head but none of them seemed right. None of them suited her, none of them made sense when it came to her character and it was pissing him off.

The night sky was lit, yet the trees gave the scenery a dark and obsolete feeling. He quickly picked up his pace even though he knew his comrades couldn't have gotten far within 20 minutes.

By the time he caught up with his team, they had set up camp around a bonfire for the rest of the night. Asuma was smoking a cigarette on a tree stump while Choji and Ino laid passed out on their blankets.

"Can you help me figure out who this Hidan guy is?"

Asuma glared over to Shikamaru and tapped the butt of his cigarette on the tree stump.

"About time you caught up. I see Kankuro left you in one piece hm?"

Shikamaru's face grew red with annoyance as Asuma let out a hearty laugh. Shikamaru wasn't for the jokes at this time and quite frankly he wanted to get to the bottom of things before his true emotions towards the situation were revealed. Asuma caught notice of his pupil's grim attitude and nodded regrettably.

"I'm just joking, relax."

"She went missing in plain sight. Didn't take anything, didn't change, nothing. All I know is that this guy's name is Hidan and he's from Yugakure."

Asuma relit his cigarette and tapped his index on his beard.

"S-rank missing-nin. I've heard stories about him but never actually knew his name. He went on a crazy killing spree over his weird god Jashin. As far as I know, he could be anywhere. He may have joined the akatsuki but I can't assume what I don't know right off the bat."

Shikamaru placed his backpack down on the ground and sat next to Asuma on a log. The more he thought about it, the more worrisome he grew. He always brushed off his feelings and never really cared about the whole relationship growth thing, telling people about who he had relations with, getting married and having kids- the list goes on. Yet for some reason, the thought of Temari just up and leaving didn't sit well with him and it was eating him up as if his heart was made out of wood and there was a termite infestation taking place in his chest.

"Where can I find him."

"Where can we find him? We're a team no matter what. It's our job-"

Shikamaru quickly interjected "This can't get out."

Asuma raised his palm holding it up in a stopping signal.

"It doesn't have to get out. But if he's a threat to Konoha and Suna, we have to find him and put an end to this. You can't take on these types of things alone, you don't even know what kind of strength this guy possesses."

Shikamaru opened his backpack to grab his black sleeping bag and water canister. He was taking in everything his mentor was telling him, but he really didn't want anybody knowing what was going on at the same time.

"In order for me to help you though, you're going to need to tell me everything you know."

He peered over to his pupil now laying down with remorse written all over his face.

"I should have stayed." Shikamaru sighed and began to tell him everything Temari had told him before she had disappeared.

She was surrounded by red light, drenched in the color of blood, yet her skin was clean. It was as if she hadn't been beaten and bruised prior. Her dress was clean, probably the cleanest it has ever been even before she got into this predicament. Temari yawned and lifted her heavy hands, still in shackles chained to the wall. She brought her feet closer to her body with the heavy chains dragging across the floor making a scraping sound.

The red light brought some sort of comfort and warmth to her. She didn't feel threatened, attacked or skittish, she was in a state of serenity that confused her to the point of no questions. Although she wasn't feeling unsafe, she decided to do the one thing that could get the message out about her disappearance.

Kamatari.

Kamatari could only be summoned fully through her fan, but the weasel would appear in her thoughts as an entity whenever she needed help.

"Kamatari… If you can hear me I ask that you come to me this one time. I could really use your help right now." She kept her thoughts in the back of her mind, worried that Hidan would catch her trying to summon her companion.

She waited several long minutes staring at the large steel door before he appeared in her thoughts.

"Kamatari!" She quickly let go of her excitement and got into a meditative state of mind so that she left out no details.

"Go to Shikamaru, Asuma or my brothers and tell them Hidan is holding me hostage. I have no idea where I'm at, and I don't care who comes to get me. If you can't reach anyone, bring me my fan. That's all I ask-"

Kamatari nodded, closing his one visible eye before vanishing in her thoughts with his sickle on his side.

The steel door opened.

"Just in time." Temari thought to herself, feeling relieved.

"So do you wanna follow the way of Jashin today? We get to kill people and not face the consequences! How much more convincing can it get?"

Temari didn't reply to him verbally, instead she looked him up and down with keen eyes.

"Not talking today? I cleaned you up and everything while you were sleeping ever so peacefully. It was hard not to consummate our relationship! But I resisted in the name of Jashin!"

After hearing his statement, she looked like a deer caught in headlights.

"Y-you touched me?" Her eyes twitched and her body grew tense.

"How else was I supposed to clean you? Cleanliness is close to godliness you know-"

"SHUT… UP!"

Temari put her hands over her ears and closed her eyes. The one thing she hated was when things weren't consensual. It didn't matter if it was a friend, family member or partner. Consent was extremely important to her and when people broke that one rule, PTSD from her childhood came back. Not like any typical episode though, she'd become weak and vulnerable. There were times while she was growing up where the council would let men court her, some as old as her father. Although nobody raped her, they had come very close to it several times. She hated when men would touch her skin so she roughed it up through training and outdoor activities constantly. Her strength was fueled by her hatred of men, starting with her father who allowed this. The only person that broke that barrier was Shikamaru. He made it known to her that he knew patience and that consent was mandatory. He didn't rush anything with her and for that she was only comfortable around him. Just the idea of Hidan touching her naked skin electrocuted her in the worst way possible. She was heated, but panic was glossing over her current state of mind.

"I'm tired of hearing your voice!" She was crouched with her knees tucked to her chest in hopes he'd go away.

" C'mon. Just give me a chance Temari! I'm not like those weird emo akatsuki members- I'm a cool akatsuki member!"

Suddenly her panic had vanished after realizing what she just heard. Temari stayed close to the wall but couldn't help to let out a chuckle. "You mean to tell me, YOU'RE in the akatsuki?"

Hidan stared at her with a blank face.

"You're joking right?" She sat upright and crossed her arms. There was silence between the two and he looked offended.

"Aren't you supposed to be… I don't know. Going after the five kage? You know I'm nothing compared to them right? I'm just Gaara's sister."

Hidan closed his fists and roared "SILENCE!" but was joined by Temari laughing hysterically.

He retaliated by pulling her chained hands close to his hands. This time around she wasn't afraid.

"You listen here, what I do is none of your business!"

Temari raised an eyebrow. "Apparently I am your business as of right now."

There was an awkward pang of silence flooding the room.

"When you decide that Jashin is your true lord and savior, I'll go ahead and get you something to eat. I'm tired of shoving food pellets in your mouth while you sleep."

"Well when you realize I'm not doing that shit, I'd like some Udon noodles and Yakitori since I'm your bride apparently."

"HA you said it!" Hidan jumped up and pointed at her.

"Said what?"

"You said you're my bride!"

Temari gave him a face of disgust. "I said I'm your bride APPARENTLY. Emphasis on APPARENTLY."

Hidan was a comical person when he wasn't going insane. Although he was a pain in the ass, nobody could deny how humorous he was when he was somewhat sane. Whenever he caught a glimpse of her smile, whether it was out of spite, laughter or cries- Hidan felt warm, unstoppable, proud of himself. These feelings were lustful, these feelings he presented came from a psychotic fantasy his mind created after smelling her blood. There was nothing romantic about anything he was doing- he CRAVED blood, but his troubled past twisted his mind and turned that blood into a craving for love.

In the end, his true intentions would surface, as they always did. He was truly out for the kill. There was no Bonnie and Clyde. Worshippers of Jashin worked alone, they didn't need a partner in crime. Hidan had a hard time understanding who he was. He was badly corrupted to the point of insanity controlling every aspect of his mind. Bloodshed brought him so much joy, he lost contact with reality. He didn't know what love was- anybody can lust easily. Lust is a craving and that doesn't just mean sex. There's a lust for power, bloodshed, food; the list goes on.

Hidan pulled out a small bag of chips from his pocket and threw it towards Temari.

"I"ve gotta go, they paired me up with some freak named Kakuzu and he's probably looking for me now."

He got up and opened the door but before he left he turned to look at her one last time. His body flashed black and you could see the anatomy of a skeleton in replace of human features.

"Do me a favor and don't make this difficult when I come back."

Temari was well aware of his demoniac outburts, yet in this short time she felt comfort from his artificial mannerisms.

"I don't trust him, but I don't think he's all there. Maybe I should be nicer to him... Should I be so quick to judge?" Temari shook her head in frustration.

"Stupid. What are you thinking? You don't trust the enemy."

A/N: To the person who asked about stockholm syndrome, not gonna spoil anything but I have indeed been watching a lot of documentaries on that and it maaaybee inspired this along with "Obsessions, Dark desires" on hulu- which is a bunch of true stalker horror stories.
