"How is he?" Blaise asked as Jade made her way over to them in the Slytherin Common Room.

"Fine," Jade said shortly and then Blaise looked at Draco and back at Jade,

"Listen, we're sorry for picking you up and dragging you out of the stadium." He said quickly in one breath.

"That doesn't sound very sincere," Jade told them, she was angry in the moment and then shortly after it happened but by the time she was talking with Harry and the quidditch team in the Hospital WIng she was already over it.

"It is." Blaise looked to Draco again, who looked very irritated.

"I want to hear him say it." Jade looked at Draco and he rolled his eyes.

"This is stupid." Draco started and Jade nodded, "I'm sorry."

"Thank-"

"I'm sorry that you're so-" Draco started and Blaise cut him off.

"Don't want to start a fight the day before her birthday, do you?" He reminded Draco and Draco clenched his jaw and looked at the victorious smile on Jade's face.

"Right." Draco got up slowly, looked to Blaise and then Jade, and paused before gently brushing past her and disappearing down the stairs to the boys' dormitories. Jade turned back around and looked at Blaise.

"What just happened?" She asked him and Blaise shook his head, Jade took the seat Draco was sitting in and looked at Blaise expectantly. "Seriously, he's acting completely bonkers."

"He was probably just scared."

"We were all scared, you don't see me taking it out on you." She told Blaise and he grinned,

"Not anymore." Blaise looked around to see if anyone was close to them and then leaned in towards Jade, "You want to know what I think?" Jade nodded and Blaise paused for a second. "I think…" He stopped again, staring at the floor, as if he were trying to figure out what to say. "I think it was the first time Draco looked out for anyone other than himself and all you cared about was Potter." Jade scoffed as she leaned away.

"Blaise, he was nowhere to be seen and Dementors were filling the stadium. It could've been you or Draco out there and I would've done the same thing." Blaise sucked his teeth, "What?"

"I don't think you wanting to make sure Potter was okay was Draco's issue."

"So what was?" Blaise looked around again, "Why do you keep doing that?"

"I… he… okay, so when…" Blaise struggled to say it simply for her without Draco knowing that he had talked to Jade about it. Blaise knew Draco liked Jade, anyone paying attention could see. Theo knew and often had fun poking at Draco about it in front of Jade. Blaise didn't understand how Jade couldn't have come to the conclusion herself already. But if Blaise was the one to shed light on it for her, and Draco found out, he would never forgive him. Draco was very prideful and he didn't make friends easily. He didn't trust easily but he trusted Blaise. He didn't want to ruin their friendship by betraying his trust. But Jade was his other best friend, he loved her like a sister. He didn't know what to do, but he didn't want to make anything worse or awkward. "Nevermind, I gotta go." Blaise got up from his chair and left a very confused Jade by herself.

"Okay…" Jade realized she wasn't going to get anywhere with either of the boys so she went to her room to start her report on werewolves for her Defense Against the Dark Arts class. Pansy must've had the same idea because she was sitting at the writing desk on her side of their room when she came in. "Hey." Jade smiled at her when she turned to see who it was.

"Hey." She greeted, "What's up?"

"Nothing to do so I might as well get some homework done."

"You're right about that." Pansy turned back to her parchment and read it over. "Hey, so, Professor Snape just wants a long-ass parchment full of werewolf facts?" Jade laughed as she grabbed her own things and sat down at the writing desk on the other side of the room.

"Yes? He wanted us to write about what a werewolf is and ways to kill one."

"You don't think there are any in the Forbidden Forest, right?"

"I hope not." Jade tried to remember when she was in the Forbidden Forest last year, she didn't think she heard a wolf howl, but she was too scared in the moment and from then on she tried to forget the feeling of being there. She hoped she'd never have to go back, maybe it wasn't as bad during the day and the scary things only came out at night, the edge of the forest didn't look too bad from Hagrid's hut. For the next hour, Jade read through the pages of werewolves in her textbook and copied down what she thought might be important. "A werewolf, also known as a lycanthrope, is a person who turns into a wolf on a full moon." Jade read aloud once she was done, "A werewolf cannot choose whether or not to transform and will no longer remember who they are once turned but they are able to recall everything they have experienced throughout their transformation upon reverting to their human form." She looked up from her paper, "How's that for an introduction?"

"Good, formal. Professor Snape will like it." Jade grinned down at her paper and gave it a once over before setting it aside and working on her Transfiguration.

At dinner, Draco had changed his mood around completely and invited Jade to sit next to him.

"Excited for your birthday tomorrow?" He asked her and she sank down into her seat cautiously. Jade had gotten used to Draco's constant mood swings but trying to keep up with them still took her a minute of adjustment.

"Sure?"

"You should be."

"Why?" She laughed lightly at his expression. He looked like he knew something and he wanted her to guess what it was.

"What do you want to do?" He asked.

"I don't know, maybe do some homework and then have lunch in the courtyard?" Draco nodded, "You think that's alright?"

"Yeah, fine, whatever you want to do." Jade smiled.

"You should say that more often." Draco barked out a laugh and then took a drink from his goblet.

"Only available one day a year I'm afraid." The day had been draining so Jade had no problem falling asleep that night. When she woke up the next morning, Pansy was just sitting on her bed, all dressed, and waiting for Jade.

"It's someone's birthday today!" Pansy sang and Jade couldn't help but smile, she always enjoyed her birthday with her friends. "Get up and get going."

"What if I want to sleep in for my birthday?"
"You can do that any other weekend."
"No, I can't because you wake me up." Pansy shrugged and went over to Jade's trunk and flicked it open.

"Okay, okay, I'm getting up."

"Wear this," Pansy told her as she pulled out a green top and a black skirt. "Dress cute for your birthday."
"I normally do."

"Eh," Pansy commented and Jade nudged her out of the way. "I'm kidding." As Jade got ready Pansy buzzed around her like a fly until they made their way to the Common Room, Pansy was lightly bouncing up and down on her tiptoes.

"Why are you so excited? It's not like it's your birthday." Before Pansy could answer Jade was startled by a loud group screaming at her.

"Surprise!"
