Getting up for classes the next day was hard, she had a nice day with her friends on her birthday, she wished she could spend every day that way but instead, she had to put on her uniform, spend hours in class, and do lots of homework. Draco's indifference towards her Gryffindor friends had ended. As Jade sat in Potions, Professor Snape began teaching them the next potion they'd be learning. A set of ingredients sat in front of them and somehow Professor Snape couldn't hear the obnoxious sounds coming from Draco as he flicked up the hood of his cloak and pretended to be a dementor. Crabbe and Goyle found it hilarious however and Ron and Harry were glaring over at them. All was back to normal, Jade didn't expect Ron to snap and throw a large, slippery crocodile heart their way. A small gasp escaped Jade as the heart hit Draco in the face. Before Draco could say anything, Professor Snape took fifty points from Gryffindor.

After lunch, Jade made her way to Defense Against the Dark Arts with Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The group paused outside the door,

"If Snape's teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts again, I'm skiving off," Ron told them, still angry about Potions class. "Check who's in there, Hermione." Hermione rolled her eyes but peered around the classroom door.

"It's okay." They quickly hurried inside, happy to find Professor Lupin was back at work. Professor Lupin looked like he was still getting over his illness. His robes were hanging more loosely on him and there were dark shadows beneath his eyes but he smiled at the class as they took their seats. It didn't take long until the class was telling him their complaints about Snape while he had been away.

"It's not fair, he was only filling in, why should he give us homework?" Dean Thomas's voice rose above the rest.

"We don't know anything about werewolves." Someone else said.

"Two rolls of parchment!" Pansy called out.

"Did you tell Professor Snape we haven't covered them yet?" Professor Lupin asked. The class went off again,

"Yes, but he said we were really behind."

"He wouldn't listen!" Ron told him.

"Two rolls of parchment!" Pansy yelled again and Jade smiled.

"Don't worry. I'll speak to Professor Snape. You don't have to do the essay." Jade groaned, she'd already turned in her essay after Potions. Like always, they had an entertaining lesson. Professor Lupin had brought along a glass box containing a Hinkypunk, a small one-legged creature who looked as though he were made of wisps of smoke, to be honest, it didn't look very frightening. "Lures travelers into bogs," Professor Lupin walked through the aisles of desks as the students wrote down what he said. "You notice the lantern dangling from his hand?" Jade looked up to glance at the creature, "Hops ahead, people follow the light and then-" The Hinkypunk made a squelching noise against the glass. An audible grimace could be heard around the classroom and Professor Lupin smiled. When the bell rang, everyone gathered up their things and it was only when Jade and Pansy were at the door that Jade heard Professor Lupin call for Harry to stay back, Jade turned to see but the other students were in the way and Jade was urged out of the doorway.

"That thing gave me the willies." Pansy shuddered. Jade had barely heard her, she was wondering what Professor Lupin could be talking to Harry about. It was probably something class-related. She doubted he was in trouble, what would he be in trouble for? Professor Lupin often talked to his students after class, right? He talked to Neville after their Boggart exercise, the occasional leftover student who he wanted to talk to about an assignment. "Jade." Pansy snapped her fingers in front of Jade's face.

"What?" Jade turned and Pansy looked over her quickly.

"Did you hear me?"

"Yes, it gave you the willies."

"No, about your necklace." Pansy looked down at the necklace that was between Jade's fingers. She hadn't realized she'd been fiddling with it.

"Oh." Jade let the necklace fall with a slight thud against her chest.

"I thought you didn't like snakes," Pansy said and Jade shrugged.

"I don't. But, I'm in Slytherin. It seems fitting. And it's the prettiest snake I've ever seen."

"It looks good on you." Jade smiled,

"Thanks." Jade found herself tracing the shape of the snake on her again.

"Draco always gets you such nice things for your birthday." Pansy sighed, her statement laced in jealousy.

"You get me nice things for my birthday too," Jade told her but Pansy wasn't swayed.

"Do you know what he got me for my birthday?" Jade fought the smile that tugged on the corner of her lips.

"A box full of-"
"A box full of owl poo!" Pansy exclaimed loudly over Jade, Jade could tell Pansy was still sour about it.

"But he followed it up with a very nice brush!" Jade pointed out but Pansy didn't care about that, even though she now used it every day. It was an embroidered hairbrush with delicate strokes of gold paint around the edges and a large P in the middle.

"Well thank him for that! Do you know what I would've done to him if he only got me literal shit?"

"We'll never know." Jade allowed herself a small smile as Pansy led the way through the corridors with a very cross expression on her face that told the incoming students to step out of the way.

"I would've-" Pansy muttered, Jade lost the rest of her sentence over the rise of the other students' voices. As they got closer to the Common Room, Blaise and Draco caught up with them.

"I think that Hinkypunk was staring at me during class." Draco brought the girls into their previous conversation and Pansy huffed and pushed her way inside. "What's her problem?" He asked Jade.

"She was just remembering when you gave her owl poo as a birthday present." Draco burst out laughing.

"Pans, it was a joke!" He called after her but Pansy ignored him as she hurried down the stairs to their bedroom. "Should I do it again this year? Make it an annual thing?"

"No." Blaise told him quickly, "I don't ever want to hear her scream like that again."

"I gave her that brush! I thought she'd like it."

"She does! She uses it every day." Jade reassured him.

"What made her think of that?" Draco fell onto the couch with a smile and Jade dropped her bag down next to the couch and sat by him.

"The present you gave me for my birthday." Jade dangled the necklace for the boys to see and Draco's smile grew.

"Do you use it every day?" He asked.

"I wear it every day, yes." Jade corrected him.

"Good."

"I told him to get that for you." Blaise pointed at Draco,

"No, he didn't." Draco quickly told her

"No, I didn't," Blaise admitted.

"Why do you give me such nice gifts, Draco?" Jade leaned in and fluttered her eyelashes jokingly.

"I like you more." He leaned towards her and Jade smiled as she leaned back victoriously.

"I knew it."

"It's definitely better than what he got me," Blaise grumbled and Draco's head whipped to the side.

"What are you talking about?"

"What did he get you?" Jade asked.

"A guaranteed spot on the quidditch team next year." Jade didn't see Blaise as a quidditch player, mostly because he was always doing his work or ignoring them for a book.

"I didn't know you played."

"He does!" Draco told her, "I think that's a great gift. You'll have so much fun, mate."

"I'll have fun being exhausted and dirty every day after practice?" Blaise asked and Draco nodded as if it were obvious. "We'll see. I would've been fine with something I can have too."

"I know, I'll get you that Quidditch Cup. We can put it up on display in our room." Draco looked off into the distance, imaging what it would look like. "We can take turns cleaning it."

"Cleaning it?" Blaise asked,

"Yeah, we don't want it to lose its shine." Jade rolled her eyes.

Boys.
