AN: Hello again, here I am with the fourth chapter. I don't have much to say, except that I hope you like it!
Chapter 4: A New Life
Aggie is in her bed, thinking about what had just happened in the day. She somehow came back to life and appeared in Norman's… house. She was accepted by the Babcocks, although Courtney still seems sceptical about her. She enjoyed her food a lot – she hadn't eaten in 300 years, thus making eating a little bit of effort. The world had changed a lot from her little puritan village in 1712.
In her mind she wonders about the modern world, the houses, the vehicles, the people, Norman… and while thinking of that, those feelings came back to her. Norman… she feels like she wants to be close to him, she wants to be with him, only the two of them alone, she wants to look at those eyes, and he looks back at her…
Stop. Stop thinking about him.
"I know, but… why?"
Just don't do it.
"Why? That's fine. It's not against the laws."
Oh you know why. You wanted to kill him, yet he still saved your life. You should feel guilty.
"Well what's wrong with that? He already forgave me."
What about his family? Don't you think about them?
"Well I guess they won't mind?"
Don't you see? They don't like you. If they could they would've put you in an orphanage.
"Sandra likes me. And how bad can they be? They're still people, they have feelings, it's not purely because of the laws."
You're 12! You're way too young to like a boy.
"Who said I liked him?! I don't like him! I just have… feelings, to him, as a friend!"
What if he doesn't like you? What if this makes him hate you for his life? You stop this right now!
"Shut up! Stop bothering me! I don't like him."
Agatha didn't realise what just happened. She was so concentrated on the fight between her mind and heart. She looked at herself and realised that yellow sparks started to come out of her hand, and electric cracks emerged on her skin. She gasped a little and they all disappear. She stopped for a while, before saying whispering words in a sad tone.
"Mommy, where are you?" Aggie lays down and tries to sleep. Her eyes get heavy, until she finally entered her dreams.
The sun emerged from the horizon, shining over the peaceful town of Blithe Hollow. A little girl is sleeping comfortably in the bed in a zombie themed room. A small groan from a zombie themed alarm clock wakes her up. She looks around to see where the weird noise came from. She found the clock and picked it up, trying to turn it off. After dilly dallying with the device for some time, she found a little button next to the gravestone that showed numbers and managed to turn the thing off. She gets off her bed and walks to the door.
When she arrived at the dining room, she was greeted by a boy of her age, and then a woman.
"Hello Aggie! How's your sleep?" greet Norman. His voice sound cheerful, giving Agatha a jolly smile. Then it was followed by his mother.
"Good morning Aggie, would you like some omelette?" ask her kindfully. She reminds her of her mother.
Agatha sat down to eat her breakfast with the rest of the Babcocks.
"So, do we have any plans today?" ask Norman.
"Not really, I am going to go shopping for Aggie's clothes today. But you kids can do whatever you want." Said Sandra. A few hours later, Sandra and Perry drove off to the store. Norman then looked at Aggie, and spoke to her.
"Hey Aggie, I haven't introduced you to Neil haven't I?"
"Who's Neil?"
"He's my friend. Whaddaya say if we go give him a visit?" ask Norman. Aggie nodded in response. Norman smiled, he can't wait to see Neil's face when he sees Aggie.
They're walking down the street to Neil's house. Norman greets the local ghosts as usual, he says hello to the floating hippie, greets the pilot lady with his usual "how's it hanging" joke, even petted the dead racoon that got ran over by a car. But this time, Aggie is doing the same thing, she greets the old cavalry soldier, the guy with a rifle and cemented feet, even the teenager that usually greets Norman.
"Hey Norman, who's this new girl? She your girlfriend?" ask him. Norman blushed when he said that. He was about to reply, when Aggie spoke first.
"Hello, I'm Agatha, and no, I'm not his girlfriend." Said her in her cute childish voice. The teenager seems quite surprised for getting a reply from her.
"Oh, so you can see me huh? Well, I say she's perfect for ya' Norman." The teen chuckled as Norman and Aggie keep walking. Norman looked at Aggie and thought of how she was executed for her ability, he thought what if he was on her place. And he immediately felt bad for her again. He opened his mouth to apologize again to her, but his mouth was silent, he couldn't make a noise.
Only after Aggie looked at him and asked what's wrong, he could speak.
"What's wrong Norman?"
"Oh, nothing, it's just that… I, uuh, I'm sorry." Aggie was visibly confused, she couldn't think of what Norman could apologize to her for.
"For what? You did nothing to me." Said Aggie. Norman was quiet, but then he responded.
"For, your death. I just feel bad, that, people killed you, for being… different. You're just like me, what if I were there?" he felt awkward saying that. How many times do you talk to someone about their death?
Aggie though, didn't seem too disturbed. She simply smiled and rubbed her left arm.
"Oh, don't worry Norman, I've gotten through all that – with your help, of course." Replied Aggie. She didn't care about it anymore, which made Norman feel better for her.
"Although, I still don't like being called a witch." Added her. Norman chuckled at it – he wouldn't like being called a witch either.
After a few more minutes of walking and talking, they arrived at Neil's house.
Neil's house wasn't much different to all the other houses on the neighbourhood. It was a normal looking house with four windows on the upper floor, and light brown coloured walls. Norman walks up to the door and knocks on it. Instead of Neil opening it, it was his brother Mitch.
"Oh hey Norman, what do you need? And who's that?" Said him. Mitch is Neil's 21 year old brother. He was wearing his usual white T-shirt and jeans shorts. Although in the beginning Mitch had a sceptical opinion on Norman, he had become much nicer to him after the events the year before.
"Hello Mitch. She's Aggie, my friend," Aggie waved to Mitch from behind Norman. "can I see Neil please?" ask Norman.
"He's inside," replied Mitch while pointing to the room behind him, the noise of their TV in there can be heard from outside. "hey Neil, Norman's here, he wants to see you." The TV stutter silences, and then Neil's head poke out of the corner to see Norman. Norman waved to greet him. Mitch goes inside while Neil walks to the front door.
"Hey Norman, are you here to ask me to play hockey?" said Neil with his usual innocent smile, he doesn't seem to notice Aggie yet.
"Hey Neil, no, no hockey today." Norman pointed his thumb behind him, and Aggie shifted from behind Norman to wave to Neil.
"Who's that Norman? I've never seen you with a girl - except for Courtney," ask Neil while he happily stretches out his arm to shake Aggie's. "I'm Neil, and you?"
"I'm Agatha, Agatha Prenderghast." She shook Neil's hand. Neil's face is suddenly filled with realisation, and his smile became more enthusiastic.
"You're Agatha Prenderghast? The old witch?" Aggie's smile turned to a slightly shocked frown. "Oh, sorry, it's just, Norman talks a lot about you, and I mean, a lot!" Norman blushed and felt that something ugly is about to happen, so he started shaking his head to hint Neil to stop, with little success.
"He told me that you were not a witch at all, and that you were just a girl of our age! He told me your whole story, your execution and your curse–"Neil noticed that Aggie seemed a little disturbed, and he stopped talking about it.
"Norman always speaks of you, every time, when I ask him to describe you, he always says the exact same thing," Norman's blush gets redder and he tries more signals to stop Neil, while Aggie seems more interested in the topic. "A little girl with long, wavy hair, and blue eyes wearing dark puritan dress and red shoes." Neil said it in the exact same fascinated tone Norman always says to him.
"From what he's said, it seems like you were such a wonderful girl," Norman started to panic a little and tried is best to make Neil change subject."
"You know, I think he likes you a little, every month, he goes to your tree to read you a book, and he now likes this song about someone in love with a ghost, and–" for Norman, this was enough. He quickly stepped in front of Neil and covered his mouth with his hands, and tried to cover his anxiety with chuckles. He saw Aggie blushing and realised that he was also blushing. He was scared that Aggie really believed that he liked her, although Aggie seems fine with this as she just chuckles it out. This is the last time he's gonna let Neil introduce him to someone.
"Hey Neil, why don't you tell Aggie about the giant snowman we made during winter? Or the summer camp in Oregon?" Norman tried to change the subject, which actually worked. They talked about the things that they did together. Aggie seems interested to try every single one, and doesn't show any sign of ever hearing what Neil said about Norman's feelings.
They've already talked for half an hour, when Neil went inside and brought back a monopoly game. Aggie seems very curious about it, it's very colourful, and it also has lots of tiny pawns. The boys taught Aggie how to play it – she slightly felt bad when she heard that you have to make the opponent bankrupt to win – and then they started the game. They played for two hours, and Aggie was surprised that she came second.
They went back home a few minutes later, and when they got home, Sandra took Aggie upstairs to try out her new clothes.
