I told you I was gonna try and get it done. I've got one more chapter and an epilogue after this.

Enjoy the climax guys!

Emily followed Owen up the stairs, Briana behind her. Owen was pretty sure this was where Maisie had gone, or at the least that's what he had said. They were walking in silence down, trying to avoid alerting the Indoraptor that they were coming.

Owen paused at the top, mouthing back to them, "Found it."

Emily nodded, steeling herself.

They crept up the final few steps, and Owen hurried straight across to a close door. The words, "Maisie's Room," were painted on it in blue letters. He leveled the gun.

Emily stepped forward and closed her hand around the door handle. Owen nodded, and she flung the door open.

He hurried through, shouting, "Maisie! Stay down!"

The Indoraptor snapped its head toward them as Emily and Briana slipped through behind Owen. Owen fired once, twice, three times, and the Indoraptor roared in pain. Briana began to inch toward Maisie.

Owen lowered the gun slightly as the Indoraptor half fell to the ground.

But to Emily's horror, it began to stand back up. The bullets fell one by one to floor.

Wu had made it bullet proof.

The Indoraptor straightened, stepping on one of Maisie's toys. Owen tried to fire the gun, and it clicked. Emily swallowed. The gun was empty. Not that it mattered, they couldn't kill it anyways.

Owen dropped the gun, backing up slowly. He extended an arm, pushing Emily behind him. Briana inched closer and closer to Maisie.

The Indoraptor matched every step they took, lowering into an attack stance.

Then Blue stepped through the doorway, screeching.

The Indoraptor's gaze snapped to her. Blue roared and leapt forward.

Owen pushed Emily toward Maisie's bed, as Briana limped forward and pulled the little girl into her arms. Maisie screamed as the Indoraptor tried to snap at them, only for Blue to pull it back.

Emily's gaze shot to the open balcony doors, and she caught Owen's attention. He nodded.

They waited until Blue had the Indoraptor fully occupied on the far side of the room. Then Emily ran for the doors.

"Follow me!" Maisie inched past her and began to climb over the railing of the balcony.

Owen was the first to follow, then Briana, limping heavily. Emily quickly shut the doors, watching Blue sink her claws into the Indoraptor's side.

She carefully climbed over the railing as it began to rain. They inched along a narrow ledge, around the corner of the building. Emily couldn't help but be grateful that Sam wasn't with her at the moment. He'd confessed months ago, when they'd climb a fire tower near her dig site, that he hated heights.

Maisie shuffled past a window, then Owen. Briana was about to follow when the Indoraptor and Blue burst through the window.

Maisie startled and fell off the ledge. She screamed as she fell to the roof below. The Indoraptor knocked into Owen and Briana, and they fell as well. Emily clung to the ledge for a moment, then muttered, "Oh what the hell…" and jumped after them.

She slid down the roof, dropping onto a flat area next to the glass roof of the museum area. Briana was on her hands and knees, breathing hard. Emily hurried over and grabbed her by the arm.

"Come on; on your feet."

Emily helped Briana stand, right as the Indoraptor came tumbling out of the window above them.

"Shit!" Emily swore, backing away, keeping herself between the Indoraptor and the others.

"Up the ladder!" Owen shouted. A quick glance over her shoulder revealed him pointing at the ladder that ran up the side of the glass roof.

Maisie scrambled up first, and Owen followed her.

"You first," Emily said to Briana. "You can barely walk."

Briana rolled her eyes, but nodded, and gingerly climbed the ladder. Emily spared one quick glance at the Indoraptor before following. The dinosaur was starting to get up. And as far as Emily could see, they had nowhere to run.

No sooner had she made it up the ladder than the Indoraptor scrambled to its feet and leapt after her.

She swore, hurrying along the roof as its claws scraped against glass, trying to gain enough purchase to climb the sloped roof. Ahead of her, Maisie had reached the end of the roof. The little girl turned back, shouting, "It just drops right off!"

Right, just like Emily had figured, they had nowhere to go. Which was especially bad when Emily turned around, and the Indoraptor had succeeded in climbing onto the roof. It stepped toward them, and the glass broke under its foot. It looked down momentarily, then switched to standing on the metal beams.

Emily swallowed, glancing over her shoulder at the others. There had to be a way out of this.

The Indoraptor roared, louder than she'd ever heard it roar. Behind her, Maisie screamed. When Emily glanced back again, the little girl had slipped off the roof, taking Owen with her.

"Get them back up!" Emily told Briana. The former ACU member nodded, and Emily switched her attention back to the Indoraptor.

Slowly, it crept toward her, carefully picking where it set its feet.

Emily took a deep breath, ignoring the fear creeping into her mind. She could deal with that later.

She had little to no baseline of knowledge on this dinosaur. There was no record of how it behaved. Nothing. She was going in blind.

Fine.

Emily would figure it out. The Indoraptor prowled forward, growling lowly. She'd figure it out.

Her hands began to shake. She'd figure it out; wouldn't she?

The Indoraptor's gaze snapped away from her as a loud banging started. Emily followed its gaze, straight to Claire.

The redhead was standing a few steps up the ladder, banging a gun repeatedly on the metal rungs. Her leg was wrapped in makeshift bandages.

Water dripped off Emily's hat brim as Claire raised the gun. Emily realized in an instant what Claire's plan was, and she nodded.

Claire leveled the gun at Emily, and flicked the laser on. The Indoraptor's gaze pivoted right back to Emily, who stared it down.

"That's right." Emily took a deep breath. "I'm not fucking afraid of you."

The acoustic signal blared.

The Indoraptor roared and ran forward. Emily matched it, stumbling on the wet roof. At the last second, she jumped to the side, sliding quickly down the roof.

The glass behind her shattered as the Indoraptor fell through. Emily hit the ground hard and groaned in pain as she pushed herself back up. To her horror, the Indoraptor was still hanging on.

"Oh no.." slipped out as it clawed its way back onto to roof and turned its piercing amber gaze on her. Thunder boomed, and Emily swallowed, raising her voice, "Come get me you bastard!"

The Indoraptor roared, but it was drowned out by something Emily never would've thought she'd be grateful to hear.

Blue leapt off a roof behind the Indoraptor and slammed into it. The metal beam snapped, and they fell, twisting in the air.

Emily stared at the broken beam. It had to be dead. Owen looked at her, and she swallowed. She moved forward to the edge of the hole in the roof.

There was no sign of Blue, and the Indoraptor laid dead, impaled on the very same skull it had stood on not a half hour before. Emily let out a sigh of relief and mopped the rain out of her eyes.

"I can't believe that worked," Claire said, dropping the gun.

Emily laughed, "Neither can I."

"Dr. Grant—" Maisie slid down the roof, "—that was amazing."

Briana nodded, "Not too shabby Grant."

"Emily?!" Sam called up.

Emily leaned forward, peering through the hole at him. He smiled, calling up, "You guys okay?!"

"Not too bad," Emily called back.

"Good, because we've got some serious problems!"

The moment Emily reached him; Sam hugged her tightly. But when he pulled back, he was all business.

"One, Lizzy's not doing good."

Emily could see the assistant raptor trainer propped up against the wall nearby. She was pale, and her whole foot was wrapped in layers of cloth.

"She's going to need real medical help soon. Two, well, they better explain." Sam nodded to Zia and Franklin. Franklin had lost his glasses at some point, and Zia had her hands on her hips.

"Right," Zia said, tone sharp. "There was an explosion downstairs. There's a poisonous gas leaking into all the dinosaur's cells, for lack of a better word. We tried to reboot the vents, but they must've been damaged."

Emily took Sam's hand. "Then what the hell are we supposed to do?"

Owen set Lizzy down in the chair, quietly asking, "Think you can hang in there a little longer?"

"Sure, sure," Lizzy deliriously murmured. "I'm doin, just fine…"

"Not so sure about that Liz…"

Emily's brow furrowed as she noticed just how much blood was starting to soak through the makeshift bandages Sam had wrapped around Lizzy's foot. But she had to pull her attention away as Zia said, "There's nothing we can do…"

Claire limped to the console at the front of the room. Glass windows covered the entire wall in front of the console. A fog, likely the gas, filled the air beyond the glass.

Claire began to open the dinosaur's cells. They spilled out, bellowing, and shoving against one another.

"They have nowhere to go…" Sam murmured. Emily slipped an arm around him.

Lizzy murmured, "Not inside they don't." Her words slurred together.

Claire paused, hand hovering over a button. A button that would open the doors to the outside world.

"Claire," Emily said softly. "We can't inflict what's happened to us on the rest of the world. Humans and dinosaurs can't coexist; we've proven that."

"You're right." Claire stepped back. "We can't release them. We can't save them."

They were going to watch the last dinosaurs die.

Maisie stepped forward, away from where she'd been standing with Briana. She walked forward, as if she was going to watch the dinosaurs. "They're like me," she murmured. "Worth saving."

Maisie pressed the button.

The next twenty minutes where a whirlwind. The paramedics and police finally arrived. Blue left, jumping right over a police car to flee into the woods. The police believed Emily then.

Lizzy passed out. She was the first to be whisked off to the hospital. Briana and Claire went next. Owen went with them. Then Sam, Emily went with him, after making sure Zia and Franklin would look after Maisie on the way to the police station.

By the time Emily and Sam arrived, Owen, Lizzy, Briana and Claire had already vanished into the hospital. The paramedics let Emily out of the ambulance first, then wheeled Sam out on a gurney. He didn't really need it, but Emily could tell he was grateful for it.

They'd barely made it ten feet into the hospital before someone shouted, "Sam!"

Emily turned around as Sam sat up. There was a woman running toward them, dressed in cat-patterned scrubs.

Sam gasped, "Melanie!"

The woman pushed past Emily and enveloped Sam in a hug. The paramedics tried to pull them apart, and the woman snapped, "Damn it! He's my brother. Let me hug him for a second."

Emily smiled. She hadn't met the woman before, but she'd head all about Sam's oldest sister.

Eventually, the paramedics got Melanie to leave, but only after Sam insisted she call the rest of their family. They wheeled Sam off for treatment.

A nurse found Emily a glass of water, and a chair near where Sam was taken for treatment. She bowed her head, letting out a breath.

It was over. Sort of.

But she'd survived. Sam had survived. They'd made it.

"Excuse me?"

Emily looked up and found a young man in scrubs standing in front of her.

"You're Emily Grant, correct?"

Emily set her water aside. "Yes."

"Dr. Eli Noble. Elizabeth Greene was—sorry, is, my childhood best friend. Is, is she alive?"

Emily sighed and stood.

"Yes, but I'm sorry. They just took her into emergency surgery."
