Target Practice

Jack and Audrey shared a quick smile as James Heller turned his back to them. They stood behind him and put the ear protection they had been given and watched as Heller grabbed the pistol next to him and aimed at the target ahead. He fired off the cartridge and then took off his headset.

"I'm rusty," Heller told them, looking at the paper target and seeing a scattering of bullet holes on the page. They were on a trip and with a meeting being canceled last minute, he decided to take Jack and Audrey to the shooting range. Luckily, it wasn't busy, and Heller rented out the space for a bit.

"Which of you wants to go next?" Heller asked.

Jack looked at Audrey. "Ladies first."

Audrey went to the clearing and looked at the pistol. She had been to shooting ranges with her dad growing up but it had been a while since they had last done that. She wasn't even sure she remembered how to reload. She looked back at her dad and Jack for help. Jack walked forward and grabbed the pistol. He refreshed her memory on how to reload and on the safety features before handing it to her and watching her do it.

"Thank you," Audrey said sweetly to him. If Heller weren't there, Jack would have leaned down to kiss her forehead. He thought it was cute and maybe a little funny to see such a sweet, soft-spoken, innocent woman holding a gun.

Jack stepped back to let Audrey shoot. Audrey fired off her shots and found that only a few shots hit the paper target. Audrey shrugged, not particularly caring that she was not good at this.

Then, it was Jack's turn. Jack asked the shooting range attendant if he could use the moving target lines. A still target wasn't nearly challenging enough for him. Then again, he hadn't shot a gun in many months. The attendant started the moving targets and the targets moved across the clearing at various distances.

Jack picked up the gun, mindlessly reloaded, and aimed at his targets. He shot the first one, only slightly off from the heart of the fake paper body that he aimed for. He didn't spend any time truly looking at the shot he had made and instead moved on to the next target, this time not missing his mark.

Audrey's jaw dropped as he hit every single moving target without having to shoot at the same target twice. She looked at her father in disbelief. Heller smiled and nodded in agreement that Jack was excellent at this. Not that either of them expected him not to be. They knew his history in the field.

But, hearing about it and seeing it were two very different things. Audrey watched, mesmerized by how steadily he held the gun, how focused his stare was, and how she could see his toned arm muscles against his button-up dress shirt. His confidence was sexy and Audrey blushed slightly, feeling herself getting turned on by seeing Jack in his element like this. She wished this was the end of their work day, rather than the middle, so that they could go home after this and tangle in each other's arms.

Audrey was disappointed when Jack stopped, after all the moving targets had bullet holes directly in the heart or head area. He walked back over to Heller and Audrey.

"Impressive, Jack," Heller complimented. "You still practice a lot?"

"No, Sir," Jack told him. "Not since working for CTU. But, it's kind of like riding a bike. You don't forget."

"Well, some of us do," Heller said, referring to himself and Audrey. "But, I guess when you do it every day like you used to, it sticks more."

Jack nodded in agreement. Heller excused himself for a phone call that was being handed to him by one of the Secret Service members. Jack turned to Audrey.

"Well, that was hot," Audrey told him with a flirtatious smile once Heller and his Secret Service crew had left the building and went out to the car. They were the only two left in the building.

Jack studied her face which was flushed pink. He recognized that she was obviously turned on. He smirked, happy that he was able to have that kind of effect on her. He knew too well that she had the same effect on him regularly. Jack looked over his shoulder and saw no sign of Heller.

He stepped closer to her and whispered in her ear, close enough that his lips brushed her earlobe gently as he spoke in a coarse, seductive voice that made a chill go down Audrey's spine. "I have much more impressive skills than that."

He left a lingering kiss on her jawline and Audrey's heart leapt. Jack backed away and left her standing alone in the building, as she tried to regain her composure. She already knew all about the impressive skills Jack had in the bedroom but him reminding her made her body crave him even more. She took a second to cool off before meeting her father and Jack back in the limo.

Audrey avoided Jack's eyes as much as possible, which didn't go unnoticed by Jack. He tried not to laugh at how frazzled she seemed to be whenever he spoke to her. She also kept shifting a bit so that even her shoulder wouldn't graze against his, despite sitting next to each other. It was subtle enough that Heller wouldn't notice anything but enough for Jack to pick up on after four months of dating her.

At one of their afternoon meetings, Heller went in alone, leaving Jack and Audrey in the car by themselves. Audrey was looking over a file for their next meeting so that her mind wouldn't wander back to Jack.

Jack stared out the window, watching for Heller's return, while his hand reached out and found Audrey's knee. He slid his hand up slightly, feeling her smooth skin.

"Jack," Audrey said, warningly, not wanting to be caught.

"I'm watching," Jack told her, his hand sliding up higher on her inner thigh. Audrey made no move to stop him. It felt good to have him touch her. His hand was now well beneath the hem of her skirt.

"Mmm," Audrey groaned, as his fingers brushed over the front of her panties. Jack took his eyes off the window for a moment to look at her, surprised by how wet she truly was. He pushed her panties aside and was about to touch her without the garment in the way but Audrey snapped out of it.

"Don't start something you can't finish, Bauer," she told him, removing his hand. "I can't believe I just let you do that."

"I can't either," Jack agreed with a chuckle.

"You're a terrible influence on me," Audrey teased.

He looked back out the window and saw that Heller was returning. "Don't worry. I'll finish this later."

Audrey glanced at Jack for the hundredth time that evening. It had been a long day and now the event they were at seemed to be dragging on. All she wanted was to go back to the hotel, feel Jack's strong hands holding her small frame, pushing her urgently to the bed, while his lips crashed into hers. She pushed the idea away, knowing that she couldn't think about sex at work.

"You okay, Audie?" Heller asked, noticing that Audrey was zoning out. What he failed to notice is that she was looking in Jack's direction as she stared into space.

"Oh, yeah, just tired," Audrey lied.

"Did you have fun shooting today?"

Audrey nodded casually, knowing her father had no idea just how much fun she truly had. "Yeah. I remember we used to go all the time when I was growing up."

Heller smiled. "Me too. We should reinstate the tradition."

"We definitely need practice," Audrey pointed out.

"Maybe we can bring Jack along," Heller suggested. "I bet he'd be willing to help us get better. If you don't mind him spending that much time with us."

Audrey smiled. "Of course not. I like Jack."

Heller nodded. "Me too."

Audrey thought for a moment. Jack was right. It was silly to wait so long to tell her father about their relationship. Heller was admitting that he liked Jack and even liked him enough to invite them to an activity that was usually just the two of them. She decided she would tell him now, before she chickened out again. If he wasn't happy about it, they were at an event and Heller would not make a scene in front of all the other people here.

"Dad, I-" Audrey started, about to tell him about her relationship with Jack. She stopped however when her phone started to ring. She looked at the caller ID and Heller saw it too. Paul Raines. Audrey forwarded him to voicemail.

"What I was saying is that-"

"You should call him back."

"No," Audrey replied.

"I mean, eventually you two will need to sit down and fix this," Heller reminded her. "You can't keep avoiding it forever."

Audrey sighed. So much for telling him. He still had it in his head that she and Paul could fix their marriage. She tried to think of how she could explain to him that she hadn't been in love with Paul for a long time. That she had put everything she had into fixing their marriage, but when that effort isn't reciprocated there's only so much you can do. But, she didn't have to try to explain it to him because he was being beckoned away by a Florida senator. Audrey watched her father walk away, feeling disappointed that she hadn't shared with him just how happy she was now that she was with Jack.

Audrey felt a hand on the small of her back, sending a shiver through her. She didn't need to turn around to know it was Jack. "Hi."

"Hey," Jack said, handing her a drink. "You're making me do all the mingling. And you know how much I hate it."

Audrey smiled. "Sorry. I was still having trouble focusing from earlier. Which is entirely your fault."

"Well, how can I get you refocused?" Jack asked.

Audrey raised her eyebrows at him, knowing there was only one way to get her to stop thinking about him. "You can't until we leave."

Jack looked around the venue and remembered that he saw a bathroom in the back hallway earlier when they had entered through the back doors. This bathroom was not the one that guests would be using, as there were more convenient bathrooms just outside the room they were in.

"Head back the way we came in in a couple minutes," Jack told her.

Audrey looked at him confused. "We can't leave, Jack."

"We're not leaving. I'm fixing the problem," Jack explained. "Wait a couple minutes and go down the back hallway."

Audrey smiled slightly as Jack walked away. She wasn't exactly sure what the plan was. They couldn't have sex here. At least, she had never done something like that before. Had sex while she was supposed to be working. Or, had sex in a public place. Audrey sighed and left the room to tell Jack that they would have to wait.

She made her way down the back hallway but saw no sign of Jack. She was about to give up when she saw that he was not in the hall waiting for her, when suddenly an arm reached out and grabbed her around the waist, pulling her through a door.

She didn't even have time to speak, when Jack's lips were on hers and he was pressing her against the back of the door. She heard the lock click behind her. She felt his hands sliding down the sides of her body and she moaned in response. The straps of her dress fell off her shoulders and Jack was kissing her neck.

"Oh, Jack," she gasped. "We shouldn't be doing this."

Jack's hands which were resting on her hips suddenly lifted her up, making her instinctively wrap her legs around him. She could feel his hardness against her and she desperately needed him now.

"Do you really want me to stop?" Jack asked, knowing that she didn't want to stop but willing to if she felt uncomfortable about this.

Audrey looked into his eyes and saw the same level of focus and determination that he had when at the shooting range. She saw his muscular arms, decorated in tattoos because she had apparently taken his shirt off, without even remembering.

Yes, having sex right now was inappropriate and not something she ever would have done before. But, everything about Jack was something she never thought she'd want. If someone had told her that she'd be with a man who wasn't her husband, who had killed people, who had tattoos, and who had once been addicted to drugs, Audrey would have laughed. But, here she was, falling in love with Jack Bauer.

"Don't stop," Audrey assured him, running her hands over his chest. Jack kissed her again.

Soon, Audrey's dress had been pushed up around her hips and her panties were discarded on the bathroom floor. Jack's pants and boxers had also been removed. Jack held Audrey tightly, keeping her suspended in the air as he thrusted into her over and over again. Audrey's nails dug into Jack's back as she got closer and closer to the edge. Finally, they both finished explosively together. They stood against the door, head to head, trying to regain composure.

"Is that what you've been waiting for all day?" Jack asked her with a smile.

Audrey smiled back. "Even better."

They both took a minute to get redressed.

"I need to fix my hair and makeup. You should go back out to the party." Audrey went over to the mirror after giving Jack one more kiss. Jack slipped out of the bathroom. Audrey fixed herself up and then left the bathroom a few minutes later. She went right to mingling with people as soon as she returned, wanting to make up for the time she had lost.

Jack got into the hotel room bed and slid against Audrey's back to spoon her. He draped his arm over her stomach and pulled her closer to him.

"That was fun today," Audrey told him, sleepily. "But definitely can't happen again. Too risky."

Jack smiled. "So I guess I should tell your father that I can't go shooting with you two next week?"

Audrey rolled over to face him. "I can control myself."

"Today proves otherwise."

"I'll be better next time. You took me by surprise today."

"I'm not even really sure why you find me being able to kill people to be sexy," Jack told her. "Should I be worried?"

Audrey laughed. "I didn't think of it like that. I don't know. I think it's just like knowing that you could protect me and seeing you be so confident at something."

Jack kissed her forehead. "I will always protect you."

Audrey smiled and they fell asleep in each other's arms.
