It was yet another day coming to a close for the night, and Ralph was running through game central station as quick as he could heading straight for Sugar Rush. He hadn't seen Vanellope racing at all during game time and he was worried about his little girl. He wanted to make sure she was okay.
He rushed to the castle, and knocked on the door really fast until Sour Bill answered. "Hello Ralph, I assume you are looking for Vanellope?"
"You assume correctly, cough drop," Ralph replied. "Where is she? Is she okay?"
"She's up in her room, she woke up sick this morning," Sour Bill told him.
Ralph's eyes widened and rushed past the sour ball. "Thanks cough drop!" He said in a quick voice and as he headed up to the little girl's room. He knocked softly, and heard a tiny voice respond from the other side saying come in. So he slowly opened the door and found the girl laying in bed looking pretty miserable. "Vanellope?"
She looked up and smiled softly when she saw her best friend. "Ralph?"
The wrecker returned the smile as he came in and shut the door. "Yeah, it's me kid. I'm here." He walked closer and Vanellope propped herself up on her pillows. "What's up stinkbrain?"
"Came to make sure you were okay, I was worried about you, I didn't see you racing at all today so as soon as the Arcade closed I came here as fast as I could," Ralph replied, taking a seat next to her bed.
Vanellope coughed and sighed sadly. "I'm sorry I worried you, I woke up feeling yucky, and Sour Bill took my temperature and I was running fever and my throat was hurting and he said I needed to stay in bed today. Bleehh."
"It's okay, it happens," Ralph said gently.
"Yeah but now we can't go have fun like we always do every night, cuz I just had to get sick, uugghh!" She flopped back down on her pillows and sighed.
"Kid your health is way more important. And don't worry, I'll stay right here with you," he told her, stroking her hair gently.
"Really?" Vanellope asked, looking up at him.
"Of course, anything for my little President Fartfeathers," he replied, booping her nose gently.
Vanellope giggled softly and smiled up at him. "Thanks stinkbrain, you're the best," she lifted up a tiny fist and Ralph smiled back and bumped his massive fist to hers.
Vanellope sighed softly and she coughed a little bit, wiping her nose on her sleeve and Ralph noticed a cup of water, and a bottle next to it. "What's this for?"
Vanellope groaned, "it's just some medicine that Sour Bill brought up here."
"And have you taken any?" Ralph asked.
"Weeeelll.." Vanellope started to say.
"Vanellope," Ralph said, giving her a stern fatherly look.
The girl sighed, "ugh I don't want to take it. That stuff's too icky and smells horrible!"
Ralph shook his head. "Kid you gotta take it, I know it sucks but you want to get better don't ya?"
"Well yeah.." Vanellope replied.
"Well then, you're gonna have to take it," Ralph said, picking up the spoon and opening the bottle of medicine.
Vanellope groaned as she started to sit up a little more and Ralph gave her the cup of water and poured a little medicine on the spoon.
"Alright, ready?" Ralph asked.
"No but don't have any choice," Vanellope grumbled.
" Sorry kid. Come on," Ralph said. "Open up."
She groaned softly, and she opened her mouth and she quickly took the medicine and shuddered as she swallowed it down. "Ugh yuck blehcchh!" She said, quickly taking a drink of water, Ralph smiled gently patting her back. "That's my girl."
"Blleehhhh! That stuff was so icky!" Vanellope moaned, taking a few more sips of water.
"Might be icky but it'll help you get better," Ralph told her.
"Yeah yeah, I know," Vanellope said and she set her cup down.
Ralph gently ruffled her hair playfully and Vanellope giggled softly, batting his hand away and she smiled softly. They both sat there quietly for a minute and Vanellope finally spoke up.
"Soooo..now what?" Vanellope asked.
Ralph thought for a moment, and he glanced at the lamp next to her bed and he smiled getting an idea, and he positioned it a certain way aiming it towards the wall and then he made a fist, sticking up two fingers and made a bunny shadow on the wall.
"I am mr bunny, how's it going?" He said, using a deep funny voice and grinned down at Vanellope.
The little girl laughed weakly and made her own bunny shadow and smiled back up at him. "Oh hello mr bunny, my name is mr fluffy so glad to meet ya!"
"It's nice to meet you too, hey, you know of any good carrot patches?" Ralph asked.
"Why yes, I certainly do, follow me mr bunny!"
"Oh thank you, I've been soooo hungry." Ralph pretends to eat a carrot. "Nom nom nom what a yummy carrot."
"Oh yes, this is the best carrot patch around," Vanellope said. "Crunch munch crunch much."
"I'm sure glad I ran into ya mr fluffy!" Ralph said.
"Right back at'cha mr bunny!" Vanellope replied.
The two friends laughed and laughed together as they continued their funny hand shadow story and Vanellope pretended to make a snake shadow and snuck up on Ralph's bunny.
"Mmmmm..helloooooo youuu bunnysssss look like a veeeerrryyyy gooood snaaaack," She said in a creepy snake voice. "Oh no it's a snake run for it mr bunny!"
Ralph just laughed. "I'm not afraid of any snake cuz I'm wreck it bunny! I'll wreck that snake!" He pretended to beat up Vanellope's snake.
"What the heck!? A wrecking bunny! No waaaayyyy!" Vanellope cried.
"Boom boom bang boom!" Ralph said.
"Ooooohhhh KO!" Vanellope said, making her snake fall over knocked out. "Oh mr bunny! You saved us my hero!" Her bunny hugged Ralph's happily.
"Just doin my doody," Ralph said, smirking down at Vanellope.
The little girl laughed and laughed at his joke. "That was awesome," she said as she laughed.
Ralph laughed with her. He was glad to see her laughing, it was a sound that he never got tired of hearing. And he was even more happy that she was having fun. He grinned down at his little girl as she continued giggling and she started coughing a bit.
Ralph patted her back gently. "Okay, okay, settle down there kid," he said, handing her the water cup to help her stop coughing.
Vanellope giggled softly, taking a few sips of water. "That joke never fails," she said.
"That's why I'm king of jokes," Ralph said, chuckling softly.
"Yeah but I'm president of jokes, and president is higher then king," Vanellope told him, smirking playfully.
"Fine fine, whatever you say president booger face," Ralph ruffled her hair.
Vanellope giggled, batting his hand away and sighed softly. "I'm glad you came to stay with me, Ralph."
"There's no where else I'd rather me," Ralph said, putting an arm around her and giving her a side hug.
She smiled, melting in his warm embrace and sighed happily. She could always count on her stinkbrain to cheer her up and make her feel better. "Love you, Ralph."
The wrecker smiled back warmly and chuckled softly. "Love you too kiddo," he replied stroking her hair softly.
Vanellope smiled, snuggling close to her best friend and she let out a soft yawn, starting to feel sleepy. Ralph chuckled softly and smiled back, "I think it's time for you to get some rest. You need that too so you'll get better."
She sighed softly, not really wanting to be alone. Ralph smiled down at her, as if he read her thoughts. "Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere kid.
Vanellope smiled back up at him, and she scooted over, to make room for Ralph to lay down next to her. He pulled the blanket over her, making sure that she was warm enough while she snuggled up to him and closed her eyes. Ralph stroked her hair gently and he laid a massive hand over her protectively and held her close. And the two fell into a deep sleep together.
