Din leaned down some as he was in a full run grabbing the kid who was standing in the way of danger. Holding him close against his chest he picked up some speed hoping to find some cover as energy bolts passed by coming dangerously close to the two. Din stumbled as one hit his shoulder blade's armor, the arm he was using to hold the child close to his chest. "Agh."
Getting his footing together he ran towards the forest ducking behind a large rock hidden behind trees. Unfolding his arm he looked down at the child in his arms. Grogu looked up at him his eyes wide with terror. "Are you hurt?" Din asked looking Grogu over for anything out of the ordinary.. He seemed fine other then a small amount of dirt on his little face. "Keep your head down." He told him as he set the child down next to him.
Din took a look from behind the rock but quickly ducking back down as the red bolts started flying past his head. One of the bolts bouncing off his steel beskar helmet causing a grunt as head came forward. Reaching behind him he grabbed his Amban rifle, laying down in the dirt he peered around the rock and took aim. Firing at the closest storm trooper vaporizing him mid run. After a few minutes of this a roar could be heard over all the commotion. Moving the scope to the right he saw a Reek its mouth open as it roared once again causing Grogu to cry out.
Looking to his left Din grabbed Grogu's small arm giving it a reassuring squeeze. "Don't worry." He told him looking back to where the Reek was. A stormtrooper pointing right to the rock they were hiding behind as the Reek snarled its' nostrils flaring. Din zoomed in on his scope noticing the proton bomb attached to its back. That's not good Din thought as he attached his Amban rifle to his back and grabbed Grogu.
"Hold on." He told him as he took off weaving between the trees jumping here and there over the rocks and downed tree branches. He could feel Grogu shake against his arm, feeling the vibration though his armor. His heart sped up his face set as the red bolts wheezed past them.
Another roar but this time closer, looking behind him he could see the Reek was closing in on the two. Too close for comfort, he had a feeling one of the stormtrooper's had the detonator and was waiting for it to get closer so they could blow him and the child up. He just needed to find a safe place to put the child down and he would fight the Reek and hope it didn't blow up.
Up ahead he saw where the trees ended, a lake was just after.
Grabbing his blaster he turned slightly firing at the Reek's feet trying to slow it down. And it did but only for a moment, as it stomped it foot down growling as it closed the space between them. Throwing its' head back once it was close enough it never had time to hit its' mark as everything suddenly lit up in a bright white. The bomb on its' back going off causing the trees to bend from the force. The blast blew the Reek apart.
Din hardly had time to cover Grogu as the blast picked them up throwing him and Grogu back ten feet though the air.
Grogu cried out as he flew from Din's arms falling away from his surrogate father. Grogu's body turned midair, stomach downward his eyes grew as his small body headed right for the pond. Closing his eyes he had no time to suck in a breath before the cold water swallowed him. Grogu's eyes opened his ears going deaf from the water. Grogu's arms moved freely in the water as he floated not knowing what to do. He had never been in deep water before, his chest started to feel tight as he felt the need to take a breath. Bubbles floated from his nose and slipped out between his lips. Grogu's heart sped up when he realized his air was seeping away. Using his arms he started to reach up towards the light he could see glistening though the dark water. The edges of his vision started to darken as his heart started to slow his little arms slowing down as they became heavy. He watched as what little air he had left leaked out of his mouth. He watched mesmerized as they floated slowly to the surface, wishing he could follow as his eyes closed.
Din landed hard his back hitting something solid making a ping, knocking the wind out of his lungs as his body felt the impact. Darkness danced in his vision, he was about to let it take him when he felt a small hand shake him. He opened his eyes as he turned to his side, his ears ringing as he watched the soot and burning tree particles rain down around him. He could feel the heat radiating from the now burning forest. He blinked as he felt something warm slide down the side of his face. Looking down with his vision slightly blurry he saw red dripping down on his chest plate.
Groaning he blinked again trying to clear his vision. His eyes widened as the fog lifted from his brain. "Kid!" He sat up quickly causing a red hot pain to shoot though his back. But he pushed that aside as he looked around frantically for his little companion. He stood his legs feeling a bit shaky and blood rushing to his head making him feel dizzy. But adrenaline quickly filled his blood as worry overcame him. He watched the forest burn bright red as black smoke filled the air. No way the Stormtrooper's were going to make it though that. Praying that the child was unharmed and not burning with the trees.
He felt something brush lightly across his calf. His heart made a happy jump thinking it was the child. Turning on his heels he looked down but saw nothing. Frowning he looked around his eyes settling on the lake as if something was calling to him. Deep in his soul he knew where his companion was. Running at the water he looked out searching. His eyes landed on something floating, something green and tan. His heart sunk as he jumped in walking in the water which was about four and half feet deep. As quickly as he could with his heavy armor, he made it close enough to Grogu to grab his unmoving arm. Pulling the small child close to him he waded back to land. He placed the unmoving Grogu on the dirt turning him over he waited for his chest to move.
Grogu's eyes stayed closed his ears lay flat, face that use to be a bright green, now was a dark green mixed with gray. "Come on kid. Breath." Din said his voice breaking as he waited holding his own breath as tears stung his eyes. Taking his hand he placed it over Grogu's chest and started to press down. Water seeped from the corner of Grogu's small gray lips. Din reached up grabbed his helmet he took it off discarding it to the side. Leaning over he placed his mouth over Grogu's and breathed a small breath of life into the small lifeless body. Placing his hand over his small chest he pressed down again. Din's heart seemed to stop beating along with the little ones. "Come on."
Din pressed down again watching Grogu's body jerk with each press against his small chest. A whimper slipped though Din's lips his chest becoming tight as his efforts seemed to be pointless. Din couldn't help but feel responsible as the guilt came up on him. He knew it should be him laying there dead, not the kid.
A silent tear fell from Din's eye just as Grogu's body convulses, a cough choking from his small body water gushing out. Din's eyes grew wide as he looked down as Grogu sucked in a deep breath. "Kid!"
Din waited for Grogu's breathing to become better before picking the small child up holding him close to his chest in a hug. Silent tears fell from his eyes, he knew it was unmanly to cry but he didn't care. "I thought I had lost you." If anything ever happened to his little guy he knew it was something he would never be able to get over.
Grogu pushed away from Din looking up at him his big brown eyes shining, the color in his face looking a lot better. Grogu reached up his three fingers grabbing at Din's face. Grogu made a sound as his fingers caressed Din's face lovingly wiping away the tears that were quietly falling.
Din got the feeling that Grogu was trying to tell him everything was going to be ok. Din held the little guy in a big tight hug, and gave him a kiss on the head. His boy was going to be fine. He heard the tiny stomach growl knowing he was hungry. Picking Grogu up he knew they needed to get out of here since the danger was not over.
I love how this one turned out, pretty proud of myself. I love baby yoda! Please review :)
