Authors Note:
Hello everyone!
I'm sorry I deleted all the chapters but I honestly didn't much like the way I had written this. So, I'm rewriting it! Yay!
This will still be much like before plot-wise but hopefully the writing will be better.
As ever, I hope you enjoy!
A long time ago in a Galaxy far, far away...
It was a time of prosperity in the Republic. The Jedi were numerous, the Sith quiet, democracy was strong, whispers of disquiet all but silent. It was no Golden Age, but rather a time of certainty - the Force was strong with the Jedi, and they kept the peace on worlds all across their great Republic.
Into such a peaceful time, on a planet not unlike many scattered across the galaxies, two children were born. Both were strong with the Force, their power calling out to the Jedi even as it cemented a bond unlike any other between them. As with countless younglings before them, the two were adopted into the Jedi Order, taken from Stewjon to the Jedi Temple, where they were taught the ways of the Jedi.
The years passed, some more adventurously than others, the younglings learning ever more about the Force and what it willed. Eventually, they grew to be Padawans, one selected by the wise but rebellious Qui-Gon Jinn, the other destined to be the final Padawan of Master Yoda - wisest of all the Jedi Order. This natural separation did nothing to dull their bond, every spare moment still spent in the company of the other - exploring Coruscant and all its secrets, or meditating in a secret part of the Room of a Thousand Fountains deep within the Jedi Temple. Their days were filled with duty, obedience to their teachings, and fun whenever it suited them. They tried the patience of their Masters, often disappearing without word nor permission to explore and test the limits of what they could and ought not to do. There are many adventures this story could tell - of days spent lost in the lowest levels of Coruscant, building friendships with those of a less-than-legal career path; of jaunts in speeders that may or may not have damaged most of the functional craft held within the Jedi Hanger; of accidents which, though willed by the Force, changed the way they saw their futures; and even of pranks, spurred on by a almost universal irritation with the Medical Wing and 'necessary tests', that possibly saw the entire Medical Wing closed for long enough that the two were hailed as heroes. But this is not the story for such exploits. This is a story both well-known and yet secret, but this beginning is not over yet.
And so, they grew into good Jedi, adhering to the tenents of their Order, forsaking all but that which made them Jedi. One after the other, they took the Trials and became Jedi Knights, Obi-Wan Kenobi taking charge of a Padawan of his own - the difficult and challenging Anakin Skywalker - while young Katria Vas emerged into her own role - the Guardian of the Younglings, a great honour not bestowed lightly.
That could have been the end of the story. Everything might have gone on much the same as it ever did, but the peace that the Republic had cultivated and come to depend on was not to last. The whispers of disquiet, of separatism grew into shouts. The Republic stood upon the brink of civil war. Where this once might have been a story of peace, of duty, of a simple lifetime spent in service of democracy and the Republic, this story instead turns to darker subjects.
This story begins not with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, nor with Katria Vas and the younglings, but rather with the other important player in these events. Senator Padmé Amidala of Naboo. The story begins with the assassination attempt of the Senator, with the demand of the Supreme Chancellor for her to be protected, and crucially with the appointment of Obi-Wan Kenobi to personally oversee her protection. A simple duty, but one that would see the very peace of the Republic shatter around them.
It was the assignment that would see the start of the Clone War...
