Happy nervously grabbed Toby's hand, as they walked into the adoption agency building. Centipede Partners now had reliable clientele that their income would pass screening. Toby, who had been talking the entire drive, was now silent as they checked in for their appointment.
When their IVF treatment failed, Happy didn't want to admit it, but she was actually relieved. It wasn't until their last job with Scorpion, she realized why. It never felt right, genetically having a baby, when there were plenty of kids who need loving parents like she did when she was little. It made her feel complete.
"Happy and Toby." The social worker had called from her office.
Happy watched as Toby let out a nervous sigh, as they made their way to the office.
"How are you doing today?" She greeted them as they sat in the chairs directly in front of her desk.
"Good. Good." Toby answered.
They both agreed to let Toby do most of the talking, as even with Paige's help with her EQ, Toby was still better at talking to strangers then she was.
"So, I was able to approve your application. Of course before any placement we'd have to do a home check." She looked at them as she flipped through their paperwork. "However, you guys did not specify if you were interested in just infant adoption from birth, or if you were open to fostering to adopt."
They looked at each other, it was a conversation that had gone back and forth for a while. Knowing if they fostered, they would potentially be getting more than one kid as they didn't want to separate siblings if possible, as neither of them had siblings but they saw the bond first hand with Walter and Megan.
"We'd be okay with Fostering to adopt." Toby said after a moment of silence.
Florence Tipton was used to mean girls. Florence Tipton was used to not being wanted. Florence Tipton had finally thought she had friends and felt at home at the Garage with Scorpion. If she was being honest with herself she had feelings for Walter O'Brien when she first met him. So when he had asked her to that lecture with him, she jumped at the chance. That maybe after all Walter had started to fall for her, over Paige.
When Walter had asked Florence to join Scorpion 2.0(as he calls it) she jumped at the chance to spend more time with him. However, he isn't the Walter she knows. He's very closed off, seems to only really communicate with her, and even Cabe, when it's about work.
She felt confident that today was the day she was going to ask Walter O'Brien out on a date. It was the most opportune time, as the job was mostly Chemistry so he'd have to talk to her more than usual. She wasn't like Paige, she wasn't good at small talk. But she knew Walter, and he found small talk inefficient.
"It looks like we need to add Potassium dichromate to get the desired reaction." Florence told him, as they worked out the formula that Henry needed them to solve.
She frowned; she was hoping this was going to be a more complex problem, as more alone time with Walter. As when cases that aren't necessarily in harm's way(like cases that Homeland assigns them) Cabe normally is at his desk or on his phone letting them(mostly Walter) work in silence.
"You're right." Walter said after a moment of silence.
She smiled, he seldom admits that she's right. Unfortunately, that solution was the last one they needed before they sent the report back to Henry. She watched as Walter grabbed the report in his hands, and just as he was about to walk away she placed her hand on his. She gulped as Walter looked at her sudden gesture, this wasn't like her. Honestly she didn't even know where she was going with this.
"Walter, listen-" She started.
Florence had touched Walter's hand, he fought his natural instinct to pull away immediately. Walter didn't like physical contact. Scratch that, he does like physical contact but only from Paige Dineen.
"Walter, listen-" Florence had started, right before Cabe had barged into the room.
"Henry, had called. He wanted to know what your progress on the case was."
Walter had ripped his hand away from Florence's, but not after getting a weird glance from Cabe. He handed his surrogate father the paperwork, and looked at the clock.
"We just finished." He went to grab his jacket. "I'm headed to Kovelsky's, anyone want anything?"
"I uh-I'll go with you." Florence offered.
Florence was starting to get on Walter's nerves with her constant hovering. He had explicitly told her after she had announced her feelings to him, that he never felt anything romantic for her at all. Honestly, he only invited her to be on Scorpion 2.0 because he saw the team breaking up was her fault. That's the least she could do was work for him and keep his company afloat.
"I'm okay." He told her.
The one thing he did like about Florence is that she didn't press. She took his rejection, to a lot of her one-on-one time she offered, without any argument. She was a little bit better at reading people's emotions then he was, enough to realize he was still hurting over Paige. Over Happy. Over Toby. Over Sylvester. Over Ralph.
The drive over to Kovelsky's was full of thought. However, not productive thoughts, but feelings. Feelings he has tried to drone out as much as he can. He liked it better when he believed he was not capable of having emotions, that way he wouldn't feel like he's falling apart all the time.
He slid into the booth at Kovelsky's, which they dedicated as their booth. He was early. Ever since he had received the text message this morning he was anxious for this meeting all day. Walter's eyes lit up when he saw them walk through the door at Kovelsky's and slid into the booth across from him.
"Hey, Walter." His son, Ralph, greeted him for the first time in two weeks.
AN- Thank you guys so much for the reviews! Honestly, it keeps me motivated to write more the more reviews I get! I love the fact that you guys are enjoying the story so far! Everytime I do my rewatch I get so mad over how things played out, I mean Walter had admitted to Happy that he would like to have his own child with Paige and he did the shit he did with Florence. I will probably being doing some "What ifs" stories. Basically, since I have decided to write this I'm watching Scorpion(again for the 39th time lol) to really get the feel of the characters and stay true to them, that way it really does feel like the official unofficial Season 5. Anyways, as I was saying about the "What ifs" stories, pretty much will be how a scenario, if I was writing it, would've played out. I'm not too sure how long they'll be, or when I'll be posting them, just keep an eye out for those!
Don't forget to follow, favorite, and review! I hope to be able to update every couple of days!
