The Ultimate Detective and The Ultimate Hope Gaiden: Momoharu Week 2022!
Day Three: Fantasy AU!
"Alright, you ready, my little sidekick?"
Kaito beamed at the little, heterochromatic girl. She wore a long, black robe and held a short stick in her hand. She smiled and nodded excitedly at the man, dressed in plastic armor and holding a play shield in his left hand while gripping a foam cutlass in his right.
"You bet, Mister Kaito! I'm ready to go on an adventure!"
Kaito laughed and ruffled her hair with the shield, causing her to giggle. "That's my sidekick! Alright, Kiki, you ready to hear what adventure we're going on today?"
"You bet, Mister Kaito! Your adventures are always so much fun!"
Kaito grinned as he told the young girl "Alright, today we have a very important mission form one of the local villages. You see, the local chieftain informed our little guild of a nearby dragon that's been roasting all the crops."
Kiki furrowed her brow, cocking her head in confusion. "…Isn't that a good thing? That means the people don't have to actually cook their food, cause the dragon does it for them. Isn't it doing them a favor?"
Kaito smiled in amusement and shook his head. "It'd be nice if that was all that was happening. But no, it's not just cooking their food for them. The dragon's burning their crops so much, it's completely inedible. The village will starve if the dragon isn't taken care of."
Kiki puffed her cheeks, pouting as she tightened her grip on her magic wand. "That big meanie! We have to stop it, Mister Kaito!"
"That's the spirit! Now, here's the plan. My sword here does bonus damage against dragons, so I'm gonna lead the brunt of the attack."
"And I'll fight by your side with my magic spells, right!"
Kaito laughed "Love the enthusiasm, but dragons are very resistant against magic. You'd be lucky to scratch it with your offensive spells."
Kiki frowned, wondering "But then…what can I do, Mister Kaito?"
"Well, first you have to stay behind me. I'll protect you from the dragon's flames with my shield. Second, even if you can't attack the dragon head-on, you can still use your magic to heal any injuries I get and boost the power of my sword and shield."
Kiki grinned, gushing "That's so smart, Mister Kaito! I'll do my best to support you with my magic!"
"That's the spirit!" Kaito raised his sword towards the sky, grinning triumphantly. "Alright, let's go slay us a dragon!"
"Huzzah!" Kiki blurted out, raising her wand to match his pose.
"HEY, DRAGON!" Kaito roared. "COME OUT OF YOUR CAVE AND FACE US LIKE A MAN!"
"Yeah, fight us fair and square, you meanie!" Kiki jeered.
As if on cue, a rumbling noise echoed in their ears. Kiki quaked in fear, her wand shaking in her trembling fingers. Putting on a brave face, Kaito steeled his shield in front of him, tightening his grip on his sword as the rumbling got louder and louder. Eventually, the rumbling sound took on a physical form as its source approached.
A slender woman with dark-brown hair approached them, her locks tied into two tails that extended down her back. Her elegant form was covered by a red dragon costume, its tail swishing from side to side with each step she took.
"…Roar…"
Kaito frowned in disappointment. "Hey, Maki Roll. You're not exactly putting much enthusiasm into your role as the dragon."
"Yeah, Miss Maki!" Kiki agreed. "That roar wasn't scary at all! How am I supposed to be nervous about fighting you if you sound totally uninterested?!"
"Well, you heard her, Maki Roll! Give us a roar that'll make us dread fighting you!"
"ROOOOAAARRRR!" Maki bellowed, putting considerably more effort into her antagonistic role.
Kaito and Kiki grinned excitedly, nervously happy that the child caregiver was finally playing the part with some degree of enthusiasm. "Alright, that's the spirit! Now we can really get started!"
"YAY!" Kiki cheered as Maki rolled her eyes.
"…Who dares to disturb my slumber…?"
Kaito opened his mouth, only to be beaten to the punch by Kiki. "We do! You've been burning the village's food, you big meanie!"
"My sidekick's right!" Kaito drew his sword. "If you don't stop burning their crops, we'll have no choice but to make you stop."
Maki snorted. "So a lone knight and a bratty mage think they can beat me? I'd love to see you try."
"BRATTY?!" Kiki puffed her cheeks in faux anger.
"That's it, I tried to give you a chance ot leave them alone, but you leave us no choice!" Kaito raised his sword, pointing it directly at Maki. "Prepare to be slain, vile beast!"
"Bring it!" Maki smirked before taking a deep breath. "Tase my deadly fire breath!"
"No you don't! Mister Kaito, I'll enchant your shield!"
Kiki waved her wand, humming for a moment before Kaito held up his shield in front of him. The knight grinned, exclaiming "Ah, an ice enchantment. Great idea, Kiki." Maki snarled as Kaito raised his sword. "Now for my counterattack! Take this!"
Kaito slashed his sword, causing Maki to roar in fake pain as she stumbled backwards. After shaking her head, she walked back up to them.
"Clever use of magic, but can you overcome my fangs? ROAR!"
Maki gently headbutted Kaito, who was unable to raise his shield in time. Kaito hissed as Maki bared her fangs, stumbling backwards.
"Oh no! I took some damage from that bite! I must have taken a serious blow to my HP!"
"Don't worry, Mister Kaito! I'll heal you!"
Kiki hummed once more, waving her wand in a circle an inch above Kaito's body. The knight sighed in relief, standing up straight as he saluted Kiki with his sword.
"Thanks, Kiki! I knew I could count on you!" Kaito grinned before turning back to Maki, narrowing his eyes.
"…Such an annoying little mage…I'll enjoy gobbling you up for dinner."
"You're not gonna gobble up anyone today, or ever again!" Kaito returned, fake glaring at Maki. "Take another sword slash!"
Kaito slashed his sword again, causing Maki to growl and stumble backwards. She panted, showing her weakened state before stumbling forwards.
"…Not bad, I'll admit…then…I'll make sure to finish you off…" In a flash, Maki swung her hand, knocking Kaito's shield out of his arm.
"My shield!"
"Mister Kaito!" Kiki cried as the shield clattered to the ground.
Maki grinned with pretend malice. "Now you can't stop my dragon breath. ROAR!"
"MISTER KAITO!" Kiki screamed as Maki opened her jaw. Narrowing her eyes in determination, Kiki raised her wand, aiming it towards Maki. She rotated her wrist, humming before she opened her mouth.
"FREEZE EVERYTHING!"
Maki snarled as Kaito sighed in relief. "Good thinking Kiki, using your magic on the fire instead of the dragon. That's my sidekick!"
Kiki grinned. "I couldn't just let you get fried to a crisp, Mister Kaito. Here, take the rest of my mana!"
Kiki tapped her wand on Kaito's sword, causing him to grin as he waved his sword around. "Alright! Thanks for the power boost! Now…" Kaito turned his eyes on Maki, who stepped back in faux fear, her eyes widened. "Take my final SACRED SWORD SLASH!"
Kaito slashed the air in front of him. "AAAAAUUUUUGGGGHHHH!" Maki groaned, tumbling backwards and causing her to fall on her back.
"We did it!" Kiki cheered, jumping up and down. "We slayed the dragon!"
"That's right!" Kaito sheathed his sword before giving her a thumbs-up. "I'm sure the village will reward us with plenty of gold for saving their crops from the dragon!"
"…Can the dragon get up now…?" Maki groaned, causing Kaito to turn towards his girlfriend.
"Oh right, sorry about that, Maki Roll. Did I swing too hard?" He asked as he and Kiki grabbed Maki's hands, pulling her up.
Maki rolled her eyes as she got to her feet. Once she was standing up, she reached for her zipper and pulled it down, causing the dinosaur costume to collapse around her. Stepping out of it, she sighed and knelt to collect the fabric in her arms.
"Honestly, this thing was a pain to wear. I hope you two had fun with this little make-believe adventure of yours."
"It was loads of fun, Miss Maki!" Kiki cheered.
"Yeah, maybe next time we can have you join the party instead of making you the big, bad dragon!" Kaito encouraged.
"…We'll see…" Maki muttered, knowing full well that her boyfriend would drag her into whatever adventures he came up with. "Alright…" She suggested as she stood up. "Once I put away this silly costume and you two clean up, why don't we have lunch?"
"YAY!" Kiki cheered, rubbing her belly.
"Alright, let's change out of our costumes and get seated at the table. Don't wanna keep Maki Roll waiting!"
Maki sweatdropped as Kaito and Kiki ran out of the room. She shook her head, an amused smile on her face before she turned around and walked in the opposite direction to put away the costume.
