The reason I am rewriting this so often is simple. I never establish age, skill, power or limits to balance him out. I never establish much of a starting point. This works better and feels more real.
In Telma's Bar
White light danced along Praim's palm, filling the air with a sense of peace and power. "There, that should help with your gout."
Pomona, a kindly woman that sold flowers to the common folk, smiled at him as she got off of the stool. "I feel so much better, thank you, dear." She pulled out a small bag of rupees, handing it to him. "Keep the tip, you do this old lady a great service. I would never be able to afford that overpriced doctor nor even work at all if it wasn't for you!"
With that she left, leaving Priam to count his haul. "Seventy Rupees, very nice." Walking over to Telma, who was manning the bar, he handed her twenty rupees. "Here is my rent."
"Thank you, sweetness." She leaned over, kissing his forehead. "You always know how to spoil a lady."
Smiling right back at her, he stretched. "I need to see Fanadi, with all the money I made here, around four hundred Rupees over all, I need to give her her cut." He hated that he had to spend so much of his hard earned income, but that was life. Rent for being allowed to heal in her bar, and a fee for Fanadi's magic lessons. Not that he regretted either thing in any way.
He had been learning for about a year and a half under Fanadi and he had learned a lot. How to heal, to move objects with his mind, to conjure the elements and lights, to fight and sense magic and other powers, how to make the many powerful potions needed to heal or harm, and even how to enchant objects of great power. He had even been working, with her help, on enchanting a blade to better fight the many monsters that roamed the land of Hyrule. It was charged with great power, many a painful hour drawing on every ounce of his strength to create it.
Walking out of Telma's bar, he moved up the stairs and across the street, down the road to Fanadi's shop. Knocking, he stepped in and saw his beloved mentor smiling at him.
"How was your day, my love?" She said, her voice level and strong, the witchy woo was really a mask for the tourists and idiots who bought her services. However, that did not take away the breathe of her potent powers, Fanadi may not have been a potent combatant, but she made up for that with a powerful sight and a broad knowledge of the mystic arts, having been trained by the mostly dead Shekiah themselves though not in their secret arts.
"Can't you tell?" he tested, before handing her a small handful of rupees. "Here is my typical fee."
"Ahh, lovely... now sit, we have much to discuss." Her tone shifted, turning darker. After he did as she asked, she leaned forward. "I have had a foreboding, something fierce and cold. A great evil energy that filled the world. I need you to go investigate."
"Sure... I guess... but why me? And where am I going?"
"The Land of Eldin and you are the only one I trust. You may be a mere fifteen, but you are a better swordsman than most Hyrule Knights, and your magic is strong. Take your book with you, and your enchanted blade and your bow. Go and find the Shaman Renado, he is an old friend of mine. He can guide you from there."
"Why Eldin?"
"While it is not the source of our troubles, I can sense that it is where you are to be the most useful when tragedy strikes, where you have the most potential to be of help."
"Fine... I will talk to Telma, let her know where I am going to be so she doesn't wonder where I am going to be... when do I have to leave?"
A smile crossed her face. "You are a good boy, I am so lucky to be your teacher... now go, get ready... and do not worry about talking to Telma, I will tell her. You need to leave soon."
Standing, he started to go, only to stop. " Telma... is this related to the odd fire we saw at the Castle yesterday?"
She sighed. "Yes... I do believe so. Though the Gaurds say nothing is wrong, that it was just a small yard fire from a torch, something tells me... beyond my powers I mean, that it is very much tied."
Sighing right back he nodded. "I wish they would trust us with even a sliver of knowledge but the knights are rather incompetent so, what do we expect. I'll be ready in a few minutes. It will take me eight hours to get to Eldin on foot. It will be night time, likely..."
"Likely, take a stamina potion, I know you have some extras stocked up."
Nodding, he hurried upstairs, having no idea fo the future ready to open up to him and the horrors he was about to see...
Chapter end, tell me what you think in the reviews.
This was a lot of fun to write.
