This is my final Vd story for a while, a mixture of all I have learned between the various stories and new growth I have developed as an author. I think I have a good path for this... some cool ideas.

I am writing my own original stories on Wattpad and Royalroad under the Penname MikaMathews. I am getting one of my og stories published, so feel free to read it before I take it down and put on kindle.

Therapy is fun, right? Having someone to talk to you about your life, forced to listen for forty-five minutes is awesome. Writing in a stupid diary, not so fun. I don't plan on keeping you, there is too much that I cannot have known but hey I promised Greyson that I would try so why not.

Let's start with introductions. My name is Markos Gilbert, formally Hewitt though I am glad to be rid of that title and all ties to my family. I am adopted if you did not guess that. My doctor, Greyson Gilbert, felt so bad for me after years of seeing me bounce through the system that he started the process of adoption over the course of months before his death. It was finalized the week after he died, Jenna his sister-in-law decided to take me in despite that. I know, kind of her, right?

Jenna is amazing, by the way, a bit ditzy but her heart is bigger than the world deserves.

I spent a few weeks in limbo before moving in exactly three weeks before school started. Elena and Jeremy, my adoptive siblings, barely spoke a word to me which I was okay with. I never went to Mystic Falls, so I never knew them before this but I got a feeling they were spoiled in a way. Call it instinct. Jeremy glared a lot, like a whole lot, and spent the summer drunk or high. Elena wrote in her journal the entire time, hiding in her room. Only Jenna made an effort to get to know him.

I on the other hand spent my summer doing something else... something amazing. I spent it practicing magic. Real magic, not fake stage crap. I have a temper, though I hide it well. A lady bumped into me in the street, yelled at me, and before I knew it her ugly fake lashes fluttered off her face, her dress tore and her glasses cracked. I felt a surge of lightning in my chest, rising from the earth through me.

I knew I caused it.

From that point on I focused on my powers. I levitated sand and marbles, I started small fires with a glare or messed with the winds. I got headaches a lot, nosebleeds a few times, so I quickly found my limits. Google was helpful, especially in incognito mode, and I discovered a whole world of people talking about similar incidents. Witches, Psychics, they called us different things. I learned a whole hell of a lot but it was hard separating the fact from fiction. I kept it to myself out of fear, no burning me at the stake people.

Oddly enough, in my research, I discovered that Mystic Falls had a massive death count every few decades, animal attacks. I was suspicious... something else was going on, making me all the more determined to master my powers and figure out what the hell was going on.

Now, I have to go, I will be burning you.

Love, always,

Markos Gilbert.

Tearing the pages from his notebook, Markos focused and fire formed from the heat under his skin. One the paper was ash, he opened the window and blew it away into nothing. "Damn, that is awesome." Smiling, he turned to the mirror and checked himself out once more. He was kind of short, at five-five, with brown eyes and hair, very fair skin and just not a lot of specialness unlike the oddly attractive people in Mystic Falls. Satisfied, he turned on his heel and marched downstairs in his purple hoodie and loose grey jeans.

In the Kitchen, he heard Jenna panicking ever so slightly. "Toast. I can make toast.

Elena walked past her. "It's all about the coffee, Aunt Jenna.

Jeremy followed suit. Is there coffee?

Jenna: Your first day of school and I'm totally unprepared. Lunch money?"

Markos sighed. "Jenna, we are good, I made muffins last night for a meal." They all looked at him. " What, Jenna said none of you can cook, I stepped in. Take a muffin and humor me. Jenna, go, you have your presentation that started like five minutes ago. We will be fine." The woman smiled at him, then bolted after one last look at her nephew and niece.

After a moment of silence, Elena turned to Jeremy. "You okay?

The irritating boy sneered. "Don't start." Then walked off.

Sighing, Markos grabbed a muffin and handed it to Elena. "Eat, and breathe. While I can't say that I have lost my parents, I do understand trauma. Just breathe, and let him deal with himself. He needs consequences, his own consequences. If he gets hurt, it is his own fault. Not yours."

She gave Markos a warm smile. "Thanks... come on, Bonnie should be outside soon, I think she won't mind giving you a ride to school."

Going outside, there was a silvery car with a stunning black girl standing outside. "Hi Elena... and Markos, right?"

He nodded, taking in her almost fey appearance gently. If he was into girls, she would so be his type. "Yes, and your Bonnie. Do you mind giving me a ride?"

"Not a problem." She said, smiling warmly and after hugging Elena, they were off. Markos sat in the back, happy to be included. He listened to Bonnie ramble on... only to freeze when he heard the word. "So Grams is telling me I'm psychic." His breath stopped and panic filled him. " Our ancestors were from Salem, witches and all that, I know, crazy, but she's going on and on about it, and I'm like, put this woman in a home already! But then I started thinking, I predicted Obama and I predicted Heath Ledger, and I still think Florida will break off and turn into little resort islands...Elena! Back in the car."

Elena, who had been drifting, turned to her with shock. "I did it again, didn't I? I-I'm sorry, Bonnie. You were telling me that..."

Markos leaned in. "That she is a psychic" He bit his lip, wondering what he could tell them. He realized then that he had to trust someone. " What does your Grams do, Bonnie?"

Just as she was about to ask, something small slammed into the car, scaring the girls and forcing them to the curb.

Bonnie panicked. What was that?! Oh, my god! Elena, are you okay?

"It's okay. I'm fine."

"It was like a bird or something. It came out of nowhere.

"Really, I can't be freaked out by cars for the rest of my life." Markos grabbed her shoulder and kissed her cheek.

"You are going to heal, Elena, you are strong and you will not let your suffering wreck your soul."

The girl, teary-eyed, smiled at him. "Thanks..."

Bonnie smiled at him. "Um... you asked about my Grams. She is the occult professor at Whitemore College, where Elena's dad worked."

Smiling he turned to Bonnie... he wanted to share his secret with her, but he could not trust her yet. If she was false, if her worthiness was false, it could be worse than fatal for him... and so he would have to maintain his secret for a bit longer.

"Awesome. Other than my heritage, I want to write fantasy stories so this sounds awesome.

"""

Bonnie started as soon as they entered the halls of Mystic Falls High. " Major lack of male real estate. Look at the shower curtain on Kelly Beech. She looks like a hot — can I still say "tranny mess?" Not quite seeing Markos' cringe at her phrasing.

Elena sighed. No, that's over.

"Ahh, find a man, coin a phrase. It's a busy year."

Elena waved at a stunningly gorgeous boy with blonde hair and blue eyes. Markos was very much drawn the boy, but realized he was likely not into others guys... sadly.
"He hates me."

Bonnie turned. "That's not hate. That's "you dumped me, but I'm too cool to show it, but secretly I'm listening to Air Supply's greatest hits."

Feeling bold, Markos walked over to the boy who looked very confused. "Hi, Markos." He held out his hand, which the handsome boy took. Instantly images bombarded his mind, of the boy and Elena kissing, holding hands... and of her breaking his heart. The boy's aura oozed pain and loss and a searching for something to fill the void. It took everything for Markos to not cringe from the pain he felt.

"Matt Donovan. How do you know Elena?"

"Oh, her dad was my doctor and then he adopted me before he died. Jenna chose to keep me despite that. It's a bit weird, but I am happy to not be in fostercare. How do you know Elena?"

He sighed. " She dumped me..."

"Oh... sorry. Um... well, even if she is technically my sister, I am in a severe lack of friends... so... "

Matt smiled despite himself. "Awkward I like it. Sure, we can be friends."

"Thanks, so where's history, that's my first class." He stopped, and something came to him. "And where does Bonnie's Grandma live? Odd, I know, but I learned she is the occult professor at Whitemore. I really am into fantasy and magic and all that. I want to write books, talking to her would be awesome."

Matt nodded. "Sure, It's been a while but I've been there before."

"Thank you, Matt."

And like that, a path to salvation appeared just in reach...
