I'm the Loneliest of All

Tired. Weiss was tired. It turns out that running a company and the military at the same time was incredibly tiring. She locked the door behind her, took off her coat and hat and collapsed on the soft, welcoming bed. There was still so much to do.

But... I'm tired. I'll just close my eyes for a moment. Yeah, what's the harm. She could afford a few minutes of rest.

She was startled awake by a noise. Weiss bolted up her eyes looking around the room and finding the last person she expected leaning against her desk.

"Ruby. How... how did you get in here?" Weiss slowly got off the bed, taking in the scene. The window was still closed and there's no way she could have come in though the front door. The mansion was very, very well guarded.

Ruby glanced at her and shrugged, "Special trick." She glanced at the floor, Weiss following her gaze. She saw a few rose petals scattered across the floor near the window. "Cool huh?" Ruby chuckled and beamed at her.

"I can have you arrested for breaking in you know." Weiss crossed her arms over her chest in an attempt to look intimidating. It didn't work. It never worked on Ruby.

"You wouldn't do that to me and we both know it. I'm just here to visit you." Ruby took off her red jacket, revealing her black shirt underneath, She placed it over Weiss's white coat and she put her beanie and sky mask on the desk. "It's hot in here." She stretched her arms above her head, the movement hiking up her shirt, revealing her toned abs.

Weiss wasn't surprised that Ruby had muscles given that her weapon was a giant scythe, currently in the shape of her trusty snowboard.

"My eyes are up here Weiss." There was unmistakable amusement in Ruby's voice, combined with her smug grin.

"Oh don't flatter yourself." Weiss turned her head, hoping to hide her blush. It's been a few years since she first met Ruby at Beacon. They've both grown and changed a lot since then. "What are you really here for Ruby?"

"Hm? You don't trust me?" She silver eyed huntress practically bounced on her heels as she walked towards Weiss, "I'm really just here for you. I wanted to see you."

Weiss narrowed her eyes at her former friend, "Why?" Her voice was hard, strained. Honestly there was part of her that wanted to believe that. That would have believed that once.

"Because I thought you could use some company. You look so... sad." Ruby brushed a lock of Weiss's hair behind her left ear, "Come on Weiss. It's me. You told me you would be the best teammate I'd ever have. Team Combat Skirt, that was you and me. Remember?" Her hand cupped Weiss's cheek.

"No. I don't. And you should forget it too." Weiss chewed on her lower lip, eyes avoiding Ruby's. There's no way she can look at her now. Not when she was the one who left.

Ruby was silent. It almost hurt more. Weiss liked hearing Ruby's voice, her laugh, she missed it. More than she would like to admit.

"Do you remember this then?" Ruby's lips were on her own before Weiss could even get a word out. Her eyes widened in surprise, a flurry of memories flooding her mind. Stolen glances, smiles and kisses. "Your lips are cold Weiss." Ruby whispered, her lips brushing over Weiss's as she spoke. "Here. I can warm them up." There was a brief giggle before their lips met again, this time Weiss couldn't help but return the kiss ten fold, pushing against the huntress.

She could feel Ruby grin as she walked her backwards, Weiss toppling over on the bed, her arms pulling Ruby along with her. She wasn't sure how long they stayed like that, their lips getting reacquainted with each other.

When Ruby finally pulled away Weiss had to stop herself from pulling her back down again. She had to catch her breath first. It was then that she realized that she just allowed Ruby not only to kiss her twice, but also to push her down on the bed. She wasn't sure what game Ruby was playing but Weiss was sure she was losing. And she hated it.

She could feel her face heating up, her blush spreading all the way down to her neck, "You... you dolt! Get off me!" Weiss pushed on Ruby's shoulders but she did not budge at all. And even worse she had the audacity to laugh at her, which only made Weiss's blush worse.

"That's more like the Weiss I remember." Ruby flashed her a smile that made Weiss's heart beat even faster than it already was. "Let me take you back, won't you Princess?"

"W-What?" Weiss's head started spinning. She felt a rush of pain in her left eye. It felt like someone suddenly stabbed her in the eye, she jerked up quickly. But once her vision cleared she was back in her bed in the same position that she fell asleep in. "Ruby?" Weiss hissed as the pain came back, not as bad as before but she still covered her eye with her hand. And Ruby? She was nowhere to be found. The window closed. No trace of her being in the room at all.

Nothing. Other than the tingling, warm feeling on her lips. Her hand trailed down from her eye, her fingertips brushing against her lips. She could almost taste the kiss.

"Miss Schnee?" The voice startled her. "You have a meeting soon. You should be getting ready." Oh. It was morning already.

"Alright. Thank you Klein." She heard a brief hum followed by the sound of echoing footsteps. She freshened up quickly. On her way out she picked up her hat and coat. Her eye still stung like hell and she wasn't sure why. She never suffered an eye injury, yet the pain felt familiar, just like the warm sensation on her lips. "Get a grip Weiss. It was just a dream." Weiss shook her head, put on her coat and hat and walked out the door.
