This is a partial rewrite of Loser's quest. I am aiming to get rid of the arrogance, the Opness of it. I am drawing off of Gunhead and Uraraka, Snipe and a few others to make his powers fluid, make sense and be right. If Uraraka can master GHMA in a week, what can someone working their butt off for ten months do? She is the inspiration for this story.
"KICK, KICK, JAB, PUNCH!" Medo, the instructor, called out over and over again, and with each call the students answered his call with motion.
Izuku fell into perfect motion, as he had for the last week. His muscles ached, but he held fast, punching and kicking. 'To think I might have been far better than I am now had I actually bothered to work out before, had I bothered to prepare. No matter, I have ten months to get ready to be a hero, I can do this.' And so he started again, punching and kicking, moving through the motions his instructor was teaching his class.
Kickboxing was chosen for a few reasons, mainly due to it's broad category of movements and the fact that as a small person it was something he could excel in. Size wasn't entirely a factor, at least not majorly. Kickboxing included standard punching techniques similar to western boxing, kickboxing techniques typically included kicks and knee strikes. Some kickboxing styles involve elbow strikes, some grappling and even grappling was what really captured his attention, offense and defense, the full body in tandem use. He figured it would be a great way to learn other styles in the future, gather his strength and speed, and increase his durability while he still could.
Why was he doing this though, what set up his transformation...
"Jeez, there's a limit to how rash you can be! There was absolutely no reason for you to put yourself in danger!" Izuku heard Death Arms say, and in another life he might have just taken it. Especially when they praised Bakugo for being amazing and his stupid quirk. However, a lifetime of mistreatment and hate and abuse had built something in his heart, something that those words unleashed.
"What did you want me to do, nothing like you?" Deatharms, Mt. Lady and Kamui woods all gaped at him like most people around them did. "Yeah, I am quirkless but you idiots did nothing but watch as a teenager was being suffocated. I actually took action, and I managed to free his face." He turned to Deatharms. "There is no way you were weak enough to not be able to take Bakugo from the sludge. Especially if Backdraft watered him down, he was made an oily substance sure but with enough force the water would have diluted him enough to break through his grip! You are a disgrace to all heroes, too obsessed with fame and your own backsides to actually save one idiot."
Turning away from everyone, he stomped away, hate burning in his chest. He heard whispers of decent around him, hate and confusion and people realizing how right he was...
That brought him no satisfaction.
"Stupid heroes, I could have done better if I had a quirk or was combat trained like... " His eyes went wide. "Gunhead... or Eraserhead, or Midnight, or Snipe... so many people are barely using their quirks. Eraserhead just negates quirks for combat and then fights like a normal person. Gunhead mostly uses brawler tactics, mostly grappling Midnight uses her whips and other such things. Snipe uses his guns with or without his quirk. Ectoplasm is a really good combatant with his clones making him all the harder to fight. Even Recovery Girls is mostly a doctor and surgeon and... mostly they use regular skills. I am so dumb, I could have been training for all these years... " Gripping his fists, he brought it close to his face. "No more. If no one will believe in me, I will believe in myself and I will make myself into the hero I needed growing up. I am done being like All Might or Bakugo... I am done being a fanboy, I will be my own hero!"
The first step had been doing research and selling his All Might merchandise to get the funds to go to a local gym six days a week. Three days a week were dedicated to Kickboxing since he was in the beginner class. Three days a week were for total workouts. Swimming, jogging, sprints, lifting weights and so on. To get this done on a proficient level, he changed his life entirely.
First off he dropped out of school and went Online, tired of the abuse and distractions of the school but mostly to get shit done and work out harder. He could get done in three hours on a bad day, so really this freed up a lot of time. This also really helped out his mental health and led to the second change, which was going to therapy. When he realized how shit his life was, that he was happier out of the hellhole that school was, It made him realize that He was never friends with Bakugo, that he had never had a single friends, that his mom ( much as he loved her) was willfully ignorant in the best and worst way. How could she not know he was being bullied that badly when he often came home burnt from Bakugo's quirk?
These two main changes and they set him off into a change he never saw coming... he had been unhealthily obsessed with heroes and All Might that he never bothered to become one and so, with all that in mind, he gave up his love of All Might entirely. Retiring it like the old fart should have been retired. The man was the wrong hero to be inspired by anyway, he was reliant on strength and invulnerability and so on. The man had no variety, he caused unseen destruction and did little to clean it up. No... he was the wrong person to focus on for inspiration.
He now focused on Gunhead, on Eraserhead, on Recovery Girl. People with useful varied skills could fight quirkless or did more than just fight. Speaking of Recovery girl, he was so inspired by her that he decided to get his EMT liscene. Anything he could to do good, to help others and to make himself as useful as possible. He doubted it would do short term good, but long term it would make him more useful at rescue missions.
He would excel, he would thrive, he had decided years ago that he would be a hero and he had decided a week ago that he would stop at nothing to become one.
Nothing would stop him...
Not even himself... and honestly he had been his own enemy for far too long.
Chapter end, tell me what you think in the reviews.
This was a blast to write.
Love, your Ninja Overlord,
