+++++++++++++Chapter 3 : Talk like a normal Human being
Morty grumpily worked on his endo-skeleton. The robotic constructions that all but substituted his bones, ligaments, and encased his organs should give him what the locals called "a Brute 6 rating". Coupled with the epidermal shield that could protect him from almost any impact damage and his alterations to his red blood cells ... He probably was tough enough to survive a punch from Latina-Superman.
It was pretty cool... From all of Rick's bullshit, he rarely worked on physical enhancements. The psychopath cared more about guns, bombs, and power armor. The few ricks who had some weapon imbued on their body were only focused on useless utility's an offense... Morty guessed it had something to do with the average rick Death-Drive. Why make yourself bullet-proof when you craved death-by-adventure... Morty liked "bio-tinkering" himself though.
Few days ago finishing a project like this would probably be enough to leave him in a good mood...but, now it felt like a Instagram prize. Great piece of bullshit.
This last days were a shitshow after another.
Firstly the Alien fragment he had captured last week had created some form of energy pulse that fried a lot of the equipment back at his lab. He managed to put it to sleep for good with some
Secondly, the Fedora lady sent him another job. This one would probably take him a whole night, and he already was not sleeping well recently.
And finally, although he would not admit it out loud, he was worried about Taylor. He did not need a god-level brain to deduce she had looked through his eye patch and was probably freaking out about it.
He could erase her memory of it... No! He was not a freaking Rick. Nothing good can come from manipulating the people you want to be close with.
It was not a question of morals either. Relationships based on science craziness end up in crazy trauma- Always!
He still remembers the first girlfriend he killed...
Fuck that! Fuck this shitty drama! He was just doing the human thing and talking to her!
Taking off the cable connected to his arm that allowed him to reprogram and recharge his endo-skeleton, Morty got up and walked out of his lab.
###
The walk to Taylor's home was not long. He could teleport sure, but that would violate rule number 12, and he was not going to violate the rules for something so small.
"Fucking Danm it!" he cursed as his foot slipped on one of the steps of the small stairs to Taylors shitty house. He was no longer vulnerable to stupid things like twisted ankles, but these things were still annoying.
"Sorry, I was meaning to fix that for a while now."
looking up he saw the poster boy for mediocre forthy-year-old American nerds. tall, too damn slim to be imposing, super thick glasses, and some sines of balding. " Hey, Mister Hebert, I am a friend of Taylor's, is he around?"
the man frowned slightly before beaming in recognition at the sight of his eye patch. "Oh, you are Marty, right? Taylor talked a lot about you." Morty smiled at the man as he skipped the accursed stair step to join him at the door. "She is not here right now, but you are welcome to come in and wait, buddy. She should be back pretty soon."
" Uhm... Ok. Thanks, Mister Hebert. Oh and it is Morty, by the way. Marty is the prototype." He said following the tall man inside. Luckily he ignored the last phrase as Taylor did with all Morty's 4rth wall breaks.
Danny led Morty to the kitchen, where he offered the teen something to drink. Morty accepted some water, and they started the oh-so-human meaningless chit-chat. " Taylor said you are a prodigy, a scientist of the future."
" She flatters me. I like Sci-fi a lot, and know a bit of the theory behind a lot of the concepts. Her science grades are practically the same as mine." As he decided to be so to not poke at Taylor's inferiority complexes.
"Well, she is one smart girl." The man smiles fondly, and Morty cannot avoid smiling with him.
"That is true." And it was, with an IQ roughly between 130 and 150, Taylor was on the borderlines of genius. Normal genius, human genius. Like his Sister and his Mom had been. " She told me she was thinking about doing one of those free programming and code courses online If she could. "
"Oh, she did not tell about that. I do feel like she would need a new computer for that, maybe..."
They casually talked about their common person of interest for 30 minutes or before Morty started to get bored and asked: " Where did you say Taylor was again?"
Danny checked his watch. " She said she was going to meet a friend of hers. According to her e would be back in less than 3 hours... but that was almost 4 hours ago. " Shrugging, he added: " Maybe they lost track of time."
The alarms in Morty's mind started to scream. " A friend... Did the say what that friend's name was?" he said, maintaining his chill tone and taking a sip of water.
The older man gave him a look but answered anyway. " Lisa. She-" Danny was interrupted by the sound of the glass in Morty's hand breaking under his grip.
Fucking Coil... That snake was gonna lose both heads tonight.
