"I'm home," Jamie announced as he walked through the door.
"Hey," Eddie responded from her place on the couch. She looked back and smiled. "I was wondering when you were coming home."
"I stayed for a little bit longer after we were done. Well, not done but we're halfway there," he informed her. He took of his shoes and coat then walked over, leaned down and greeted her with a kiss. "How was the rest of your shift?"
"Uneventful," she replied. She scooted over and patted the spot next to her. "Sit."
"What did I do?" he questioned cautiously as he sat down.
"Nothing! Why do you always think you did something wrong? Maybe I just want to sit next to my husband and relax because we've both had a crazy week. Plus, I really want to get a few more episodes of Ozark in. You get pissed if I watch it without you."
"That's because you'll get bored when we're watching an episode that I haven't seen."
"Exactly. That's why I was being considerate this time and waited on you."
"Thanks... I guess."
"How are you and Pop now?" she asked, throwing her blanket over his legs and scooting close. "Everything okay?"
He let out a sigh as he threw an arm around her shoulders, "We're good. Truly. We talked it out."
Eddie smiled, "Good. I'm glad."
"Everything that happened this week scared the hell out of me. It made me realize that Pop isn't invincible."
"Invincible?" she questioned curiously.
"Well, not invincible but that he's truly getting older. He's in way better shape than most his age but like he said to me a few days ago, time will win one day. And I was truly afraid that it was starting to happen."
Eddie gave a sad smile. "Thankfully it's not," she responded gently. "And maybe it won't for a long time or it could be coming. When it does, we'll just take it day by day with Pop. I'm sure he's grateful to have a grandson who cares as much as you do."
"I just want him to be around for as long as possible. I want him to be here to meet our kids when the time comes. I want them to love him as much as I do and get to know him like Nicky, Jack, and Sean."
"They will," she promised as she interlinked their fingers and squeezed his hand. "I know they will. And, God forbid, if he's not here when we do have our kids, we'll make sure that they know about him. They'll know about how great of a man their great grandfather is and how much he loves them."
He kissed the top of her head and buried his face in her hair, "Thank you."
There was a long comfortable silence between them before Jamie spoke up again.
"How are you and Cora? Do you know how her interview went?" he asked.
"She said it went pretty well," Eddie informed him. "Especially on such short notice. I really hope she does get the promotion. She deserves it. I can't even imagine being in her position right now. I told her that if she ever needed anything, I would help her. She actually asked if I wouldn't mind going to her next doctor's appointment with her. I said that I'd go."
Jamie pulled her close and ran his hand up and down her shoulder, "You're a pretty great person, Edit Janko-Reagan."
"I try to be," she joked.
"You are."
"I just... If I were in her situation, I would hope that someone would offer a hand, even if I didn't need it. I know a small gesture like that goes a long way."
He nodded, "It really does."
"Do you want to watch Ozark now?" she asked after a few quiet moments.
"Sure. But tell me the truth, did you watch without me today? Because I can't imagine you sitting here just waiting on me to watch with how long I was gone."
Eddie bit her lip then gave a sheepish grin, "Maybe just 30 more minutes of the last one we left off on."
Jamie couldn't help but laugh, "I knew it."
"But you still love me, right?" she joked as she gently slapped his thigh.
He pressed a quick kiss to her lips and gave a smile, "Of course I do."
