This is an odd pairing I have seen before a few times, but I figured I would throw my hat into the ring and see where it goes. Please R&R as it has been many years since I have last written anything of note. The time travels reduces the age difference and allows us to play with the characters in ways that the usual cannon would not allow.
I hope you enjoy.
Ino stood in a relaxed position before Tsunade, she had just completed her first mission as team lead with Hinata and Tenten as her supports and it was a great success by her judgment.
They were sent to collect a rare scroll that was uncovered being traded during an ANBU operation. There were a lot of unverified rumors as to what the scroll may contain, but the high bidding price encouraged the Hokage to take preemptive measures to secure and research it on their own terms rather than wait to see what the contents may be from a disadvantage.
Tsunade opened the secured package and quickly scanned the contents, her brow furrowing "according to this, there should be two silver coins to activate this scroll, did the seller not have them?" Ino smirked at the comment and raised her hand signaling Tenten and Hinata to take out the coin they each carried.
"I thought it best to keep the scroll on myself and divide the other elements,
so that if we are captured or defeated they wouldn't be able to get the whole
package again"
"As if either of those outcomes would be possible with us though" Tenten boasted.
Tsunade smiled and nodded at the assessment. She opened her hand to receive
the coins which Ino collected from the others, and she was about to hand the coins to Tsunade the door to the office slammed open as Naruto barged in with Sakura in
tow.
Sakura was trying to get him to slow down as it was clear that the door was closed
for a reason and maybe it would be best to wait until the current meeting was over
before reporting in from their own mission.
"Naruto, if you don't learn to knock soon, I'll knock some respect into you, regardless of your actions during the war, we still have village to run" Tsunade's tone was warning, but ineffective and Naruto continued to the desk bumping into Ino.
Hero or not, Ino still couldn't get used to the boisterous attitude that Naruto had and lack of respect, it shocked her how much he got away with even at this time. She wondered how Sakura and Kakashi were able to put up with the attitude so much, and as she was returning to view Lord Fifth her gaze stopped momentarily on Lord Third and she remembered wanting to work with him when she was young. He always seemed so much calm and collected that their current Hokage whom you were at equal risk of a drinking contest or beating depending on your level of failure. So shocked was she that Ino didn't notice that she dropped the two coins until the first one clinked against the floor.
As the second coin collided with the first, a great glyph appeared under Ino's feet and began to shine brightly, the scroll in Tsunade's hands began to glow as well. Before anyone could react the light enveloped Ino and she vanished.
"where..." was all Sakura could say before Tsunade stood up quickly and slammed her fist onto her desk. Rereading the scroll, Tsunade realized why the bidding was going so high.
"Not where but when, this is a time scroll so she would be right where she was standing but we have no idea when."
"So? we just wait a few minutes and she'd come right back in threw the door right?" Only Naruto could think of such a simple answer to a much more complex problem. Tsunade pinched the bridge of her nose and glanced at Sakura to explain it to the blonde.
"Unless if she went back to before this tower was built and fell a few hundred feet, or to the middle of war, or got captured and thought to be a spy, or you know...100 years ago and wouldn't survive that long to just come on back in"
Tsunade quickly began to bark orders to pull as many avaiable researchers to the room to find a way to get Ino back and they were instructed to not pay attention to the heavily beaten Naruto who was being carried out by Sakura.
As Ino's eyes began to clear, she was shocked to be in what appeared to be the same room, just with very different occupants. Instead of Lord Fifth sitting before her, she was looking directly at Lord Third, and barely even a moment later she felt the tip of a sword resting right against her lower back, poised to end her in a single thrust.
Hiruzen froze at the sight of the new member in his office, the woman was tall, with long blonde hair covering her right eye and in a form-fitting purple outfit that left her mid-drift bare. She seemed as surprised to be there as he was but he kept his face impartial. He held up his hand to signal to whoever was behind her to stay the blade but did not signal for it to removed as she still felt the metal on her back.
"Lord Third...I am not an enemy, I have my headband in my side pocket I can show you some proof of who I am...I think" Ino started to move her hand but felt the blade prick into her skin causing her to freeze.
Hiruzen slowly nodded for her to retrieve her head band "you seem to be familiar with me, but as I have never seen you before, can you explain your sudden appearance in my office?"
Ino's head was spinning with trying to figure out what explanation would be best, it's hard to say that you were caught in a bright light speaking to the Third's grand-daughter and now are in his office when he should be dead, but she settled on just giving the bare bones explanation for now in case the light was a powerful mind trap.
Ino pulled out her headband and most recent voucher for re-entry into Kohana, though she was too far from the desk to simply hand them to the Hokage and did not want to test the resolve of whomever was so keen on killing her. She felt the killer aura behind her get stronger with every passing second. The shinobi behind her was not inclined to listen to her reason for being here but simply wished to remove her from the office as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Seeing her predicament Hiruzen approached Ino taking the items from her hand and then saw one of the silver coins on the floor and picked it up.
The silence was deafening as Ino could hear her heart beat faster and faster as the seconds dragged on until Hiruzen smiled and finally signaled the swordsman to lower his weapon.
"It seems you have had a long journey in the wrong direction" Hiruzen showed Ino the coin "are you familiar with this sign?" the glyph on the coin was similar to what she saw on the floor before she was teleported over but it seemed incomplete.
Ino simply shook her head, Hiruzen smile stayed, "It's a forbidden jutsu for time manipulation that was supposed to have been destroyed long ago, one that I did not even share with my predecessors for fear that the knowledge would get out"
Hiruzen settled down behind his desk again "Tell me, what is your name and who is the current Hokage?"
Ino paused, how could he know that he wasn't still the current Hokage, but sensing her question he tapped on the voucher 'of course, it's date stamped' she realized annoyed that there is no longer any false pretense with Hiruzen. "My name is in Ino Yamanaka and Lady Tsunade is the current Hokage, I don't know what got me here, only that there was a second coin and when they connected I was transported from her office into yours."
Hiruzen's brow furrowed "this puts us in a very delicate situation, it seems that if my grand-daughter got her hands on this with a Kunichi as young as you, she doesn't realize what position she is in and that means I'm likely no longer around to advise"
Ino's eye's tried to remain steady but her mind thought back to the picture of Hiruzen on the mantle in Tsunade's office looking over her. Something in that thought must have given it away.
"So you know a lot of things that are yet to happen, and that knowledge can be more dangerous than any jutsu, see you know what happens to me, this village and many other events which may seem like something worth sharing, but that could change the outcomes greatly in ways we won't be able to determine if they are truly for the better or not."
Hiruzen let out a long sigh "There is only one way to prove you are who you claim to be, you would have been born by now, if we may please have a small sample of your blood and chakra to compare with the Ino in this time"
Hiruzen signaled to the hidden killer behind Ino "This is Kakashi, one of my most trusted, you will be in his care until we can find out more"
That is when one bright blue eye met a dark grey eye, completely void of emotion, nothing like the ninja that Ino was familiar This one was like the sword on his back, a single point with a straight focus. Kakashi stood in front of Ino, unmoving, "I will send someone to the medical lab to complete a check up on young Ino, please allow us to take a small sample of your blood in the meantime. While we wait Kakashi will take you to a more secure room for the results to come in"
Kakashi took a small piece of cloth from the Hokage and passed it to Ino to prick her own finger for the sample. Once completed Kakashi bowed to Hiruzen and gestured for Ino to follow him. While Ino was very familiar with the usual layout, Kakashi pressed his hand on an indiscreet wall creating a small opening and began walking down the new hall.
The room she was guided into was sparse, only 4 chairs, a table and a small lantern. They waited in silence for over an hour, any attempt by Ino to start a conversation was met with dead silence to the point Ino began to wonder if she was dealing with a wood clone instead. Finally the door opened again and Hiruzen walked though with his normal gentle smile on his face "the results are in, the blood and chakra match and it would seem rude to keep one of our own as a prisoner for something they did not seem to cause on purpose."
"Kakashi, please go prepare new accommodations for the two of you, Ino will be staying as a guest of our village until we can find a better solution. We do not know yet how to send you back my dear nor how long your stay may be or if any side effects of the jutsu are yet to show"
Kakashi whispered something into Hiruzen's ear but was brushed away and given a new mission scroll with the information that was needed at the moment.
When Kakashi left, Ino let out a breath she did not know she was holding "I didn't realize he used to be like this" she mumbled to herself.
Hiruzen raised an eyebrow "does he change in your future? While I dare not ask about my fate for such knowledge would prove to be much more dangerous than any enemy shinibo, I do wish to know about my young friend"
Hiruzen guided Ino back to his office where she told him about the Kakashi that she knew while keeping details as vague as possible, the one that ran through the village racing his rival [Mighty Guy], who nearly died trying to aid her quest for vengeance of her teacher [Asuna], who was the mentor to some of the strongest and bravest of the new generation.
Hiruzen sat and listened intently with a smile on his face seeing a brighter future for someone he has worried about so often.
That's all for now- please let me know what you think. Next chapter I'll start the interactions between them more, this will likely be a semi generic fic-layout, but I do enjoy writing again, please give any suggestions to what you may wish to read or occur in the future as the outline is still very rough with lots of room to flow.
