Inside the Plantar house, everyone were gathered together for breakfast.

Anne sat next to Sasha, while her daughter, Amity sat between her, and her husband, Olivier.

Grime sat also sat next to Sasha, with the Wheelchair bound Hop Pop next to him.
Lastly, Sprig and his wife, Ivy sat next to one each other.

"hey...Where is Polly?" asked Anne.

"She wrote that she wouldn't be able to make it." said Sprig.

"She's still off adventuring with that Robot of hers." added Ivy.

Hop Pop chortled. "she never could settle down, even as a Tadpole."

"Me and Sprig used to do that when we were younger." continued Ivy Plantar.
"NOW, though. we have...Responsibilities. and can't goof around like we used to.

Anne nodded. "yeah...I always thought I'd live a life of Fun and Adventure forever."
Anne then paused, and looked to Amity. she smiled warmly as she brushed her daughter's blueberry hair.

"but when I held my baby in my arms for the first time..." spoke Anne.
"it change my perspective of things. Made me see what was REALLY important in my life."

"Mama!" spoke Amity, feeling embarrassed.

"being a parent changes you...Sometimes in ways you never expected." spoke Olivier.
"My own mother was never a Model Citizen growing up. But, I never once doubted how much she loved me."

"there may be hope for Polly yet then." spoke Hop Pop. "...Hope I'll still be around to see it."

Grime took a gulp of his drink, and then looked to Olivier.

"So, Oliver...Sasha tells me that you encountered my brother recently."

All eyes fell on Olivier...who breathed out sharply. "I'm not entirely sure." spoke Olivier.
"I don't think I imagined him...but, he couldn't have escaped from where I sent him."

"Are you SURE about that?" said Grime.

Olivier nodded. "The Mirror Dimension is inescapable without outside help.
For centuries, Witches have used that place to imprison rogue spellcasters, rather than execute them."

"But, Grunge ALSO used the Mirror Dimension for his own needs." spoke Sasha.
"Grunge might've been Crazy, but he wasn't stupid. He must've had a plan, or two to escape from there if he was ever trapped."

"If he had, he would've escaped YEARS ago." said Olivier.
"I hope that whatever I saw was just an Illusion that he managed to conjure up."

Grime took another gulp of his Grog. "For our sakes...I hope you are right.
My brother was more dangerous than King Andrias ever hoped to be."

Anne was about to take another bit of food...when she suddenly flinched.

"NGHHhhh..." Anne groaned as she grasped waist.

"Anne?" spoke Olivier, concerned.

"are you okay, Anna-Banana?" spoke Sasha, ALSO concerned.

Anne breathed rapidly, while Olivier stood up to attend to his wife.

"i'm...I'm okay. d-don't worry about me." spoke Anne. "it was...j-just a contraction."

The Plantar's all frowned at Anne's suffering.

Being Frogs, they had a very different method of 'reproduction',
and from their perspective, Human Reproduction seemed very 'alien' to them.

What they disliked about it the most was the Pain that it caused someone like Anne.
and how there was really nothing they could do to stop their friend's suffering.

"Mommy...are you okay?"

Anne looked down as her daughter approached. She smiled, and picked up Amity and held her close.

"Mommy is F-FINE, sweetie." spoke Anne, her voice strained "I'll be...okay."

Sasha couldn't stop her lip from quivering as she watched Anne hug her daughter.
She would never admit it, but Sasha was envious of the happy life that Anne made for herself.

Yes, she was glad that Anne was happy...but, Sasha ALSO wanted to be happy like she was.
She still had Grime, but even she knew at his advanced age, he wouldn't always be there for her.

And, the only thing Sasha feared now...was being Alone, again.

Sasha quickly turned away, not wanting anyone to see her display of emotion.

"I think you should lie down for a minute, honey." spoke Olivier.

"I'm fine, hon." replied Anne. "I don't need-"

"Yes, you're fine...NOW. but, I don't want this happening later." countered Olivier.
"PLEASE, Annie...just lay down on the couch for a minute. for ME?"

"He's right, Anne." spoke Hop Pop. "It won't hurt you to sit a spell for a moment."

Anne stared up at her husband for a good, long minute.
she then finally exhaled sharply, and handed Amity over to her father.

"okay, Fine...you win." said Anne, as she got up.

"Anne." spoke Olivier, again.

Anne stopped, and looked back. "yes?"

Olivier paused...and then finally said: "i love you, anne."

Anne smiled. "I love you too...AND, you too, Amity."

Amity smiled as her mother finally walked away. Olivier then handed Amity to Sasha, and got up.
He followed Anne into the den, and approached as she laid down. "What is it, hon?" spoke Anne.

Olivier didn't answer...he just knelt down, and kissed his wife on her forehead.

"I just want you to know that I love you, baby." said Olivier.

Anne blushed as she smiled at her husband. "you tell me that every day."

"and I will keep telling you that...every. single. day." spoke Olivier.
"Until the day we die, I will never let you forget how much I love you...and how Grateful I am to have you."

Anne smiled at her husband, partner and friend. "same here."

Olivier gently caressed Anne's face. "sweet dreams, Anne...my Moon and Stars."

Anne smiled, and then turned over to try and get sleep.
Olivier stared at his wife for a good long while...before he finally stood, and walked away.

...But as he was leaving. He bumped into Sasha (who had been watching at them.)

"you really were the best thing that ever happened to her." said Sasha.

Olivier sighed softly. "I hope so (walks away) ...because I sometimes wonder."

Sasha frowned as she watched Olivier finally leave.

[Later]

Olivier Clawthorne was taking a walk through Wartwood,
gripping his staff with a wooden carving of a Falcon upon it.

Just then, the Falcon Sculpture came to life and began to fly in wide circle.
It wasn't long before the Falcon perched itself onto a gravestone that Olivier was approaching.

The Falcon then hovered over, and perched itself on Olivier's shoulder.
The bird looked on with a similar sadness as Olivier was as they both looked upon the stone marker.

[RIP]
[MADELINE "MADDIE" FLOUR]
["a Strong Frog Stands for Themselves.
a STRONGER Frog Stands for Others."]

Olivier shut his eyes tight as he returned to the past,
and allowed himself to willingly relive that day...

...The day that Everything changed.

[***FLASHBACK***]

[Newtopia Castle, Ten Years Ago...]

...Everyone froze in horror as King Adrias held Sprig tightly in his massive grip,
and held the helpless Frog out of a broken window, Clearly threatening to drop him to his doom.

"Now put back the box or this twerp learns how to fly." spoke Andrias, his tone cold.

"Anne...(argh!) DON'T!" pleaded Sprig, despite Andrias squeezing him.

"SPRIG!" exclaimed Anne and Maddie together.

(("heh-heh-heh...Better make a choice SOON, Boonchuy.")) spoke another, darker voice.
(("Andrias was always weak. and, we doubt he can hold your little friend for very long."))

Sasha glared at the dark figure that sat in Andrias' throne.
She almost couldn't believe that...that CREATURE used to be her friend, Marcy.

What had that damned Salamander DONE to her!?

"anne..." spoke Olivier, concerned.

"I know." said Anne, almost reading her boyfriend's mind. "it isn't worth it...Polly, do what he says."

Polly reluctantly returned the Calamity Box back onto it's pedestal.
Maddie scowled, feeling anxious as all eyes fell upon the Tyrant King.

"Ok, dude. You have what you want." spoke Anne, fear and dread in her voice.
"Now PLEASE, just put him down. He's my best friend...in This world, or ANY other world."

Both Andrias and 'Darcy' bore very smug expressions at this.

"That's the thing about friends, isn't it?" began Andrias. "The more you love them, the more it hurts when they go..."

Maddie silently reached into her satchel, and pulled out one of her tied sacks of magic.

"...Allow me to demonstrate." said Andrias...who opens his hand, dropping Sprig.

Everyone froze in shock and horror...except for ONE.

((*BLAM!*))

"ARGH!" roared Andrias, as he felt a burning sensation in his eyes.

Before anyone could react, Maddie threw another Spell Sack at her feet,
which teleported herself from where she was, to the open window where Sprig fell.

Maddie then gripped wooden carving she had around her neck, and extended her hand out.
Her hand glowed bright blue, and she grunted as if she was lifting something heavy.

...Sure enough, Sprig came into view. His body glowing with the same blue aura
as Maddie levitated him upwards, and back into the flying castle.

"SPRIG!" exclaimed Annie, tears in her eyes.

As he stepped back onto the ground, Sprig looked at Maddie. "Maddie...y-you saved me!"

Maddie smiled. "Anything for you Spri-LOOK OUT!"

Maddie shoved Sprig away and jumped herself as Andrias (who had just recovered)
suddenly swung his titanic fist at the two Frogs, rupturing the ground where they initially stood.

Maddie retaliated by throwing two more spell sacks at the towering Salamander...Which only angered Andrias further.

(("STOP HER, ANDRIAS!")) commanded Darcy. (("THAT DUMB FROG IS MAKING YOU LOOK LIKE A FOOL!"))

Enraged, Andrias roared like a beast as he furiously punched and stomped at Maddie.
The Cyan frog was able to evade his punch with ease, and respond with another thrown spell sack.

but unfortunately, she wasn't fast enough to avoid his second attack.
With a thunderous sound, Andria stomped his foot down hard. Cracking the floor.

As Maddie's spell sack rolled harmlessly across the floor...Olivier stared in stunned shock.
In fact everyone covered their mouths in stunned silence, almost unable to believe what just happened.

As Andrias lifted up his boot, and glared down at the broken form of Maddie Flour.
And in a single moment, the Newt King went through different cycles of emotions.

Rage, which quickly faded once Satisfaction sank in.
But that too didn't last, as the more she stared at the frog girl...the more he felt another feeling.

Regret...and, Guilt.

(("good work, Andrias...")) spoke Darcy. (("Maybe you aren't as useless as we thought."))

Strangely, the Core speaking through Marcy to him gave Andrias no comfort.
Despite wanting their approval...Andrias just couldn't take any joy in this victory.

It was one thing to throw the other Frog out the window...
At least THEN, he didn't have to face the reality of what he did and push it out of his mind.

But, this was different...He just killed a child, and it was staring him right in the face.
And, for one horrible moment...Andrias saw the child as his once good friend Leif.

Andrias was so lost in his thoughts, that he didn't even notice when Olivier
drew a very large Spell Circle that blasted a powerful heat beam straight at him.

"AAAARRRGHH!" screamed Andrias, as he was flung into a wall.

(("frogdammit, andrias.")) grumbled Darcy, annoyed.

Olivier ran to Maddie, and then dropped to his his knees.
He couldn't stop the tears from flowing as he gazed at the Frog Girl's broken body.

Olivier tried to use healing magic on Maddie, but her injuries were too severe to do any good.
As her life force faded more and more, Maddie looked up at the Half Witch Boy.

"i'm...ss-sorry, oliver." spoke Maddie, her voice raspy. "I wan't...ss-stronge enough."

"you did fine, maddie...you did okay." spoke Olivier, trying to hold back his tears.

Maddie shed a tear. "I wish...i could've seen...the b-boiling isles. just...ONCE."

Olivier was about to say something, when Maddie let out a deep breath...and then breathed no more.
her broken body fell limp, and Olivier could no longer sense any life within her.

tears streamed down the boy's cheek the harsh truth became evident: Maddie Flour...was DEAD.

With the exception of Darcy, and the still dazed Andrias.
Everyone stared at this scene with stunned silence and tearful eyes.

Lady Olivia and General Yunan, who were Newts themselves were actually horrified at what their King just did.
Even Captain Grime (who never cared much for Frogs) had a tear to shed for the fallen child.

Anne tried to approached Olivier, who remained still as he sobbed over Maddie's body. "oliv-"

"she...She was only a kid. a little girl." spoke Olivier, his voice breaking.
"all she wanted...was to be like ME. I was suppose to protect her...and I failed."

Anne frowned, the remnant of her Calamity powers already making her feel Olivier's emotions.
She could feel his Sorrow, his Anguish...it was like someone had ripped out their heart.

Anne tried to reach out in an attempt to touch Olivier's shoulder.

...and, that was when ANDRIAS ROSE UP.

"Ngggghhh...my head." groaned Andrias.

As soon as King Andrias spoke...the room fell DEAD Quiet.

Anne felt Olivier's emotions suddenly disappear, unable to feel anything.

(It really creeped her out, being unable to feel a trace of empathy
from one who just a moment ago was grieving over the death of a friend.)

but, then. Anne finally felt something...and it made her blood become ICE COLD.

Bright Blue energy not unlike her own Calamity Power flared up from Olivier's body,
turning his once Auburn hair BLACK as the darkest night, and pulsing with tremendous energy.

Anne had felt such power from her boyfriend once before...but this time, it felt different.
Instead of a a power that burned like a living sun, she felt a terrible coldness.

a Coldness...that at the same time 'BURNED' with overwhelming Rage.

"o-oliver?" spoke Anne, worried.

Olivier's neck snapped as he turned his head, GLARING. Anne gasped as she looked into his eyes,
which were now black pools with bright blue rings burning like hot coals.

Olivier's now inhuman eyes narrowed onto Andrias...who froze as he looked into them.
Eyes that once been so Warm, and Kind towards others were now Cold, and filled with seething hate.

It was almost as if Andrias was staring DEATH itself in the eye.

Darcy clasped their hands together...smiling wide like a Goblin. (("THIS...is going to be Fun."))

[End of Part 03]

[Author Notes]

Now that Amphibia has since ended, this story has taken on a deeper meaning as far as I am concerned.
what with the AU being an Epilogue taking place Ten Years Later just like the end of The Hardest Thing...

...Only in a much different context and circumstance, obviously.

So, anyway. the Dinner Scene was written to give more exposition on this future,
and give an excuse to show what a great mom Anne is as an adult, AND how much she and Olivier love each other.

(As well as imply that Sasha has unresolved personal issues that she is dealing with.
That while she is good friends with Anne, she can't help but feel envious as her "good fortunate.")

Although, the highlight of this story is showing part of a flashback to the events of True Colors,
BUT with a bit of a twist that makes it different from canon (as this IS an AU, so not everything needs to be word-for-word the same.)

I felt it would be rightful epic to end this on a cliffhanger, teasing Olivier's awakened "Dark Form"
(which I already confirmed DESTROYED Andrias' castle, and HIM along with it.)

Lastly, Fans of the MCU's Doctor Strange films,

may catch a mention at the "Mirror Dimension" that is often used in those movies.

I adapted them to my Owl House Lore, as I felt it be rather neat
(Especially for Owl House fans to imagine a "trippy" variation of the Boiling Isles.)
