"Loading dock A captain and solo flight crew member Alexander report to the shuttle immediately! We have 10 minutes until launch!"
In the lower levels of the space center astronaut Alexander Marve was late. He was in the middle of putting on the space suit when that announcement rang out. Urging him to hurry up. He obliged. Running down the hallway with one foot still in the process of getting into the boot and the other grasping his helmet he hurried down the dimly lit hall.
He passed the sliding doors just as the next announcement rang out, "Captain you have 5 minutes until we are ready for launch!" He gives a sigh and jogs to the ramp. He stops at the set of double doors and presses the button.
"Reporting for duty, let me pass Dawkins!" He barks into the mic.
"Sheesh took your time eh? First solo mission into space in years and you almost missed your own flight!" a snide reply croaked out of the mic.
"Hey, use your inhaler bud, you sound like you're dying!" He remarks.
"HEY! You know I don't!... Whatever, just go in!" Dawkins whines.
The door beeps and slides out of his way. He hurries in and races up the ramp to the awaiting shuttle. With a salute to the crowd gathered he marches into the ship. Putting on the helmet hiding his roundish face. He blinks as he stares up at the consoles and many control panels that adorn the ship, deep brown eyes looking rather excited. His hair bundled up in a knot due to the helmet he adjusts as he waits for the commands to send him off.
He looks around the ship as he makes sure that everything is in order. Seat? Check. Suit and helmet? Double check. Experimental laser pistol? Check. All systems and health signs? Check as well
He pushes a button and speak into his mic. "All systems are go ground control. We good to take off?"
A buzz and the reply is sent. "Major Tom here we are all go. Brace for lift off"
He tenses up as he hears the countdown begins. This is it. His chance to be a real American hero like in the old days. 10 he looks around. 9 fastens seatbelt 3 wait what happened to 8-4? 2 must have gotten excited and spaced out. 2 he readjusts his seat one last time. 1.
The ship roars to life and lifts off taking him to the skies the console shows the earth below him growing smaller and smaller. The ship goes on shaking more and more. He pushes the button for the next stage. The ship speeds up soaring into the sky and then…. He makes it. The blackness of space on the front consol greets him as the blue sky of earth fades.
"Made it! Ground control, Alexander here we made it! Mission phase one success!"
The weightlessness of space was thrilling to say the least. He steers the ship on course and directs the front away from the moon.
"Major Tom here, remember your mission. Investigate the anomaly and report back after a few days of study alright?"
"Roger that sir." he replies. "I'll keep that in mind. Who knows what's in there."
With that he switches the coms system off and continues to his destination. After a few hours of travel he sees it. A shapeless purple void thrashing in the center of space.
He switches on the coms again.
"Approaching the anomalous mass sir, getting 500 meters close to it." he states.
As he gets closer a tingle goes down his spine. He doesn't know why but he feels like maybe going to the dangerous purple space mass is a bad idea. A really bad idea. But he has too. He is an all american hero he cant let anyone down now! 500 meters and pulls the thrusters to a halt. Now 400 meters… wait. Whats going on. Hes getting closer!
"Crap, somethings wrong with the ship engine or thrusters or something! Im still moving!" he pushes a second button and the ship violently lurches.
It slowly moves back with a groan. And eventually sets itself at a safe 500 meters yet again. "Ok ground control starting analysis now. Beginning procedure.", he reports.
He sits back down, pushes a big red button, and waits. The ship computer hums as data pours out of it. The ship opens up a hatch on the underside and a radar dish comes out. He goes to the computer and punches in three commands. The radar dish then swivels 50 meters to the left and hums quietly. A beam fires out and flies into the center of the purple mass, it quivers and moves faster.
"Oh shoot. Ground control ground control, requesting to abort mass is reacting violently to the intrusion!", Alexander pleads into the mic. Hoping he gets a immediate reply.
What felt like hours he gets a reply.
"Major Tom here, negative captain your mission is to-" suddenly he gets cut off. A loud bang is heard and the ship shakes suddenly. Turning to the ship computer he freezes. Standing on the ship is something that can only be described as a dragon greeted his monitor.
And to his horror, floating in the depths of space is the radar and a good chunk of his ship! He runs to the controls and grabs the thruster and punches it! The ship lurches violently backwards in a effort to throw off the dragon.
To his despair it did not. The creature clamped down onto the ship and tears into the hull!
"Oh man! This can't be happening!" he breaths softly, before he can say anything else the ship lurches forward again as the mass gets bigger, and a gigantic creature pushes its head out. Its another dragon, but it has a wicked set of four curved horns adorning its brow. Its eye ridges are curved in a evil glare and its eyes, they where like red hot coals.
If there was a time to panic. It was now. And that is what he did. Screaming and yanking on the controls he threw the ship into full reveres. To his surprise nothing happened. He looked at the monitor and spotted the dragon on his hull tearing into the ship. Alarms and red lights blaring he had no hope. He looked in despair as his ship slowly died in front of him.
The wicked creature grinned as it continued its work. The bigger dragon raised a paw. And suddenly the ship flew forward. It was heading straight for the purple mass and this evil looking purple dragon!
"MAJOR TOM RESPOND PLEASE! EMERGENCY! PLEASE!" he screamed into his mic. No response. Nor would there ever be one.
The creature gave a laugh that could somehow be heard in the depths of space. The ship continued its descent into oblivion. And just as Alexander screwed his eyes shut accepting his fate a bright read light shone through
He opened his eyes and saw that both dragons were gone! He gave a sigh of relief. He was safe. Or so he thought. The ship continued into the mass.
"OH SHI-!" and then silence. The vortex or wormhole, as it was later discovered by the earth's top researchers, sucked the ship and its one crewmate into its maw. He was never seen again. But what became of him? To all of the world he died. But the very opposite was true. The captain was alive. And what happened to him was a story that was remarkable. It saved the worlds from destruction.
Across the universe
In the dragon realms there was terror. Malefor who was thought destroyed had made his return. The works of many could not find out why. But it didn't matter. HE was back. And that's all that mattered. Especially to a young dragon and his mate. They raced across the lands when they learned this. Flying like never before they reached his lair. It was once again standing. But this time they had the jump on him. They would stop him before he restarts a long hard fought war. And stop him they will.
Spyro and Cynder entered his chamber both prepared to take him down. Malefor luckily was distracted for he had his entire upper half engulfed in a strange purple vortex.
"You know what to do. We give it our all!" Spyro said, looking at Cynder.
She gave a nod and they both approached Malefor as silently as they could. Immediately the duo sent out volleys of elemental attacks at the dragon.
The dragon roared in anger and yanked his head out of the vortex.
"SPYRO! You're too late! My plans are already in motion! There is nothing you can do to stop it now!"
Spyro growled and backed up. "Yeah right like we're gonna just do nothing! Whatever you're trying to do with that vortex it's not going to work! I have grown since we last fought! I'm stopping you right here right now!"
Malefor glared at Spyro and approached him. "Lets put that to the test then!" he hissed, "I'll crush you and Cynder and finish off the dragon realms myself!"
Before he could notice that she was not at Spyros side Cynder dove at him! She let loose a volley of poison strikes each one hitting its mark. Malefor hissed angrily and threw her off. "YOU PEST!" he roared. He stepped unknowingly into the rune that was generating the vortex.
And he paid dearly for it. Spyro shot a fire ball at him and struck the rune. It glowed and then flashed red. Malefor roared in pain and felt himself break apart. And then he was nothing. Gone. Spyro breathed heavily slowly feeling the adrenaline ebbing out of his system. Cynder landed next to him.
"Great job Spyro! With that stroke of luck we undid Malefor before he could do any serious damage!" Cynder said.
Spyro shook his head "I should be thanking you Cynder! That would not have happened if it wasnt for you dive bombing him like that."
"Well you should just learn to take a complement! Your such a-" before she could continue she felt herself get thrown to the ground. A deafening crash shook the temple.
"Spyro what was that for!" she cried.
"Look over there!" spyro pointed to where they had been standing.
There was a smoldering wreckage the likes of which they pair have never laid there eyes on before. It was large and made of some sort of metal. But it had strange markings on them.
The pair approached it carefully, slowly. There was a door that they could make out, And Spyro carefully reached a claw to it. Prying it open the duo stepped inside. It was dark and and flashing red. It was smoking. There a figure could be made out on the seat in it.
"Quick lets get it out of here!" Cynder whispered.
"But what if its dangerous!" spyro replied
"We can debate that later for now lets give it a chance!" Cynder then grabbed it by the arms with her jaw and pulled it out of the seat. Dragging it out of the wreckage they dropped it on the ground.
It was in a strange suit, the same markings they couldn't quite understand on it. It read U.S.S. SEEKER on one side of its arm. The helmet completely obscured its face with an orange visor.
"What is it?" Spyro whispered.
"I don't know. But it's wearing strange armor. Is this thing what Malefor wanted?" Cynder asked.
"I do not think so Cynder, or else he would have sent for it in a less damaging method. Did you see how it crashed? It looks like he did a number on it!" spyro replied.
It suddenly moaned and tried to sit up. "It's awake! Quick, let's help it stand if we can!"
Cynder walked forward and used her snout to help it stand. Spyro reluctantly joined her.
"Ugh… what happened…. There were two dragons… red and purple light…. Fire… smoke…." it groaned.
"Creature try not to move too much! You were in a crash in… whatever it is you were in! Let's get you to a place to sit down." Spyro said quickly.
It didn't reply and let them take it to their destination. They sat him on a boulder. He gingerly lowered himself as they did. "Can you take your helmet off? We need to see if you took any head damage." Spyro said.
It nodded. It took its helmet off and the pair backed up with a gasp. This creature they never saw before. But if it could be described it looked like some sort of hairless ape.
"What? What is it?" it asked
Spyro bared his teeth at it. And got ready to pounce.
"Ah nuts… this doesn't look too good." Alexander whimpered
