A/N – I apologize in advance for the shortness of this drabble. I have been extremely frustrated with my writing lately… I have a notebook with ideas and even outlines, yet I cannot seem to actually write anything. Grrr.

This morning I had John's version of "Id Rather Be Sailing" stuck in my head and this little scene popped in.

I'd Rather Be Sailing

Jack stood on the wooden pier outside the tourist office. He was leaning against the railing watching the boats bob in the water. He sighed and his gaze drifted upwards. The sky was so clear… so inviting.

His thoughts drifted back to his days with the Time Agency, then his time as an opportunist, and finally with his time with the doctor. All filled with adventure and danger – travelling through space and time, never knowing where they'd end up, then moving on to the next adventure.

Sighing, Jack realized that even taking into consideration his immortality and the century spent waiting for the Doctor, this was the longest he'd ever spent in one place since he'd left home.

The sky had darkened while he'd been lost in his memories and the stars were coming out. Hundreds of worlds just waiting to be explored… adventures to be had.

"Jack?"

The Captain had been so lost in thought that he hadn't heard the footsteps approaching.

Turning he saw Ianto leaning on the railing beside him, gazing out over the water. "Do you want to go back to him?" the younger man asked, not looking at Jack.

Ianto had asked the very same question when he'd come back after travelling not so long ago.

Jack studied Ianto's profile. Instantly, visions of the stars and far away worlds vanished.

"Not any time soon."

Ianto turned his head to meet Jack's gaze and smiled that little smile that always made Jack's heart skip a beat.

Adventures weren't always in exotic and far away places. Some of the greatest adventures are the ones you often didn't even realize you were having.
