Hey guys, AzAlexzZ here!
This is the first chapter of the rewrite of Sinnoh Adventures, I have renamed it 'Hearthome Academy'!
I know I said in the prologue that I would upload this when I am done writing 4 chapters. But apparently, today is a special day, namely 'Satoshi Day'. With that in mind, I have decided to upload chapter 1 today!
Before we start with the story, just some heads up from the original one, not much of these components have changed:
1) Most of the main and side characters at the Academy are 15 years old (High school-age), except obviously, their teachers and professors.
2) High School in Japan and most Asian countries lasts for 3 years, so the same will apply to the amount of time the students will spend in this Academy.
3) Dialogue:
"..." = Normal Speech
AAAAAA = thoughts/pokemon speech.
These are the Character outfits for the series:
Ash will be in his Sinnoh/Kalos/Unova outfits;
Gary will be in his Sinnoh/Journey outfits;
Leaf is in her Pokemon Adventure's manga outfit;
Barry, Dawn, Paul, and Zoey are all in their Sinnoh outfits;
Bianca will be in her BW anime outfit.
Hope you all enjoy 'Hearthome Academy'. Please send any reviews, ideas, and constructive criticism my way!
I DO NOT OWN POKEMON! AzAlexZ out!
Chapter 1: The Journey to Hearthome Academy! Settling into the Academy!
In the land of Sinnoh where legends unfold, many things are set to happen. With many pokemon comes many adventures! This is the story of a group of young teenagers who, together with the mysterious pokemon, start their journeys as students and as pokemon trainers to fulfill their dreams and passions…
Let the chapter begin…
(Tuesday, in the Sinnoh region)
"We're almost there, just 2 more days until the Academy opens!" Prof. Arthur Rowan said as he was walking through a grandiose hall alongside Prof. Samuel Oak.
"We've been working on this project for the last decade and now, we will finally see it pay off," Samuel said, "it seems we will have a great turnout this year."
"Yes, we have enrolled about 2500 students, which is quite an impressive number if I do say so myself," Arthur stated.
The two elderly Professors strolled leisurely through the halls of Hearthome Academy, taking their time in admiring their handiwork.
The duo allowed a brief moment of silence between them as they began to think back to all that they have done to build this Academy up. They both had wide grins on their faces, almost as if they were children with their favorite toys.
Eventually, Arthur Rowan broke the silence.
"So am I to assume that your grandson and his companions are going to join us at the Academy this year?" Arthur asked calmly.
"Yes, they will be arriving tomorrow afternoon," Samuel replied with a smile.
"And they filled out the pokemon retrieval form for their desired starter pokemon?" Arthur asked.
"Yes, two of them have already submitted their choices for the pokemon that they wish to choose, they will come to collect them on Thursday," Samuel answered.
"The third one didn't choose to get a starter pokemon from the school?" Arthur asked.
"As far as I'm aware, yes. He only has one pokemon now, a faithful Pichu, now a Pikachu," Samuel responded as he held a hand on his chin, "he said he wanted to catch all of his pokemon. He's a fascinating and curious young fella. I think you'll like the boy."
"You know that I'm not one to play favorites as a teacher, it's not the most professional of qualities. Hence I don't agree with it," Arthur stated as Samuel nodded in agreement, "but I'm sure that I will enjoy meeting all of the new students."
"As will I," Samuel echoed that sentiment, "I'm really happy that we're so close to a new beginning."
(That afternoon, in Pallet town of the Kanto Region)
"Leaf, come on! Hurry up will ya?! We gotta go pick up Ash now or we'll miss our ship to Sandgem Town!" Gary Oak yelled from outside of a medium-sized house as he was standing next to his companion, a black fox-like pokemon with circles of varying sizes around its body.
"Coming Gary, give me just one more minute!" A voice came from inside the house as the teenage boy sighed, shaking his head.
Girls and the time they take to dress up. And he even gave her an hour's notice before he came to pick her up, yet she was still taking too long. One of these days this lacking time control is going to cost her greatly. He just knows it.
"I'm so, so sorry! I was just saying goodbye to my parents!" Leaf apologizes as she ran outside the door with her companion, a purple fox-like pokemon with a red gem on its head and a forked tail.
"I'm sure that's what took you so long," Gary rolled his eyes as Leaf gave him a light smack on the elbow. The couple laughed for a moment before they shared a kiss. They both recalled their pokemon and got into a spacious car. With a whirring of the engine, they set off to the other side of the town, aiming to pick up the third member of their group.
The ride, although rushed, did not dull the beauty of their small, green hometown. Various pokemon of different sizes flew in the air or ran about on the ground. Flocks of Pidgeotto and Pidgey soared through the winds, feeling the comfortable breeze. In the trees, Caterpie and Weedle made their nests while Rattata and Spearow ate fruits and berries diligently, greatly enjoying their supply of food.
A few moments later, Leaf and Gary arrived at their friend's house. They found their friend standing outside his front door with a yellow mouse-like pokemon with 2 red circles on its cheeks and a tail with a zigzag formation.
Their friend was a raven-haired teen who wore a blue collared shirt with white lines on the side that covered a black undershirt. He had dark blue jeans, a pair of red and black high-top sneakers, black fingerless gloves with red borders as well as a red hat with white lines on the edge, and a white half-circle in the middle.
"What took you guys so long?" The raven-haired teen asked, "you were supposed to be here 10 minutes ago!"
"Sorry, Ash!" Leaf apologized.
"Hello to you too, Ashy boy," Gary responded sarcastically, earning a snicker from Leaf, "don't mind saying hi though, just get in and take advantage of our kindness!"
"Okay whatever Gare Bear. It's not like you're driving," Ash deadpanned as Gary glared at him.
"Sorry Ash, I took too long," Leaf said in an apologetic tone.
"Why am I not surprised?" Ash's serious expression mellowed into a short laugh as Leaf smacked him lightly on the shoulder.
"So how are you? Are you excited?!" Gary asked as he turned around from the front seat.
"Excited?! That's gotta be the biggest understatement of the century! I'm super pumped and ready to go to the Sinnoh region!" Ash exclaimed as he balled his hands into a fist and pumped them into the air, "right Pikachu?"
Pi Pikachu
"Same with me! Can't wait to meet new people, new pokemon, and work on my dream of becoming a great pokemon trainer!" Leaf followed up.
"We're all so excited and I'm all for it, I can't wait to follow in the footsteps of gramps," Gary followed, "I would like to catch some helpful pokemon that I can take out into the field to help me with my research."
"Ah, to be young, full of energy, hope, and ambition. I'm sure that you will do splendid Master Gary, and you two as well Master Ash and Mistress Leaf," Their driver, Andrew said.
"Andrew, I told you to just call me Gary, it feels really weird when you do that," Gary said.
"Same here, Leaf and I aren't even from the Oak family anyway, just call us by our names please," Ash echoed.
"Sure, young masters," Andrew said as the trio sweat-dropped, "anyway, what classes are you youngsters most excited about?"
"Well, definitely Battle class and Pokemon Care for me," Ash replied excitedly, "I'm excited to learn about how to take care of my pokemon, and battling is always my favorite thing to do."
Pi Pikachu
"Same here, I'm excited about Battling, but Pokemon Evolution also interests me greatly, since Gary and I both have different Eeveelutions, it can help widen our scopes to the world of Pokemon," Leaf added.
"I'm sure we'll be learning a lot about different ways that pokemon evolve. I hope we get to Eeveelutions, and also the use of Evolution stones as well as friendship evolutions," Gary said.
"Yeah, Pikachu knows all about friendship evolutions, right buddy?" Ash stated as Pikachu cheered, knowing full well what his trainer is talking about, "after all, Pikachu evolves from Pichu. Though Pikachu is now super strong and confident. You're no longer the timid Pichu that I first met all those years ago."
Pi Pikachu
"You've come a long way, Master Ash and Pikachu," Andrew interjected, "I remember when Pichu was younger he would shock the three of you because he couldn't control his electricity. Even I was at the mercy of his shocking powers at certain times."
Pika Pi. Pikachu rubbed the back of his head embarrassingly, making apologetic sounds.
"Well, it's all good now Pikachu! We got it under control through rigorous training. Thanks to Gary's makeshift Lightning Rod, we were able to at least direct your electricity at the latter part of your training," Ash grinned as he gave Pikachu a head massage, to which the electric mouse cried out in blissful comfort.
Chaaa
"We've all come a long way, and I'm excited to take the world by storm!" Gary said, "being the grandson of the famous Samuel Freakin' Oak is a lot of pressure, but I'm excited to follow in his footsteps and make my dream come true!"
"Any other classes you kids are interested in?" Andrew asked.
"I think that Sinnoh History sounds fascinating, I heard that they will also talk about Sinnoh in the ancient times when it was known as the Hisui Region," Ash said.
"Yeah, I'm interested in learning about all the pokemon that no longer exist in our world, as sad as that may sound," Leaf said.
"To bring this conversation to a more positive light, I'm interested in Pokemon Research as that is directly related to my dream. I am also very keen on learning about the art that is Pokemon Breeding, I think it will be a fun class. I'm excited to get my hands on some research material regarding eggs," Gary said, "perhaps we'll get to meet some interesting characters too!"
The group continued chatting away as the car ride continued for another hour. Eventually, they arrived at the Viridian City Harbor. Andrew helped the group remove all their personal belongings from the car.
"This is where I leave you all, Have a great time in Sinnoh young Masters," Andrew said, bidding the trio goodbye, "please give my regards to Master Samuel Oak, and tell him that he is sorely missed."
"Will do Andrew, thanks for being the best butler I could ask for and an exceptional friend," Gary said as he pulled Andrew into a tight embrace, Leaf and Ash followed suit and all hugged Andrew. Andrew waved as the trio set off for their ship in Viridian Harbor.
After 45 minutes of getting through customs and getting their bags and tickets checked, the trio finally arrived at the terminal boarding port. They arrived just in time for the ticket man to speak into a microphone that connected to a megaphone.
"Alright, everyone taking the S.S. Sinnoh to Sandgem Town, please ready your tickets and form a line so we can begin the boarding process," the ticket man said.
Ash, Leaf, and Gary grabbed their things and got in the line, excited to finally begin their journey to the Sinnoh region.
As the trio boarded the ship, they were filled with excitement as this was the first time they had boarded an international cruise ship on an adventure to a region away from their home. They decided against lingering in the main hallway and quickly located their cabin room. They were put into the same one and had beds all to themselves.
(3 hours later)
The trio spent the next few hours exploring the boat, exploring the malls and attractions within.
"Wow, there are so many stores, I so wish I brought some money with me, I could buy so many cute dresses!" Leaf exclaimed as she was practically kicking herself for not being prepared to go on a shopping spree.
Behind her was Ash, Gary, Umbreon, and Pikachu, the group of males collectively sweat-dropped as they were content just walking around and having a good time being around each other.
"Leaf, darling, stop. You have no money anyway," Gary laughed as he walked forward and took his girlfriend's hand, "gotta stop fantasizing, besides, you don't need that stuff to look good. Am I right, Ash?"
"Yep, you look nice as is," Ash responded as the brunette looked at them both and sighed. She looked away from the various shops and walked in the opposite direction.
"Fine you two sweet mouths are right, let's get going then," Leaf said, "I heard there's a beautiful view on the deck, wanna go check it out?"
"Sure, that sounds like a great idea," The boys agreed as they ran after Leaf along with their Pokemon. In about 5 minutes, they arrived on the deck, there was a big field with a sandy texture, but beyond the field was the skyline. In front of them was the sunset, and the trio couldn't help but marvel at the beautiful setting that nature has painted for them.
Next to the ship were many sea-dwelling pokemon were swimming under the water. There were pods of Wailmer and Wailord swimming slowly, while groups of water types like Luvdisc, Huntail, and Corebyss. Packs of Carvanha and Sharpedo swam swiftly around the fish with their jaws open, though they showed no signs of attacking any of them. There were also groups of Chinchou and Lanturn swimming leisurely nearby. Magikarp and Gyarados were near the surface, keeping their distance from the ship but remaining vigilant.
Leaf reached for Gary's hand and the latter obliged, holding hers as he held her in a loose embrace. Next to them, the raven-haired teen was less than keen and felt a bit awkward as he was the odd one out.
"Hey uhh, get a room you two?!" he deadpanned.
Pika Pika
"Sorry, Ashy boy, would you like me to hold your hand too?" Gary teased as Ash slapped him lightly on the shoulder. The Auburn-haired teen faked distress as he pretended to crouch down and clutch his shoulder, "I'm in pain, Ash, you're gonna kill me at this point."
Ash and Leaf couldn't hold their expressions as they let out some light snickers.
"Drama Queen," Leaf muttered as Gary stood up and joined them in their laughter.
"Hey Ashy boy, wanna have a battle with me?" Gary challenged with a smirk.
"Thought you'd never ask! It's been age," Ash exclaimed, "We have yet to settle our score from our last battle, and we know that Pallet Town still hasn't crowned its most powerful trainer."
"Yeah, I'm not waiting to find that result out in Hearthome Academy," Gary responded with as much enthusiasm.
"Pfft, Pallet Town? You guys want to go to Hearthome Academy! And you're from the little boonies. Loser much or what?" A taunting voice called out, catching the attention of the Pallet town trio, the group turned around to see who insulted them, and they found themselves face to face with a teenage boy with dirty-blonde hair. He wore a purple undershirt that was covered by a purple hoodie and an orange jacket, he also wore grey jeans with blue and white sneakers.
The trio decided to ignore him, turning their heads to watch the skyline.
"I said, you pathetic losers are not gonna go far at Hearthome Academy. Looks to me like you're not gonna amount to much," the dirty-blonde-haired teen taunted.
"And? If you think we care about your opinion, you can buzz off," Ash retorted.
"Yeah, what he said," Leaf added, "nobody asked for your opinion. Do us all a favor and leave us alone."
"If you're looking for a fight, you best watch yourself since it's 3 of us against one of you," Gary said.
"Ganging up on me ain't exactly cool though," the dirty blonde said.
"Well, you're the insufferable idiot who approached us and insulted our home region while you're taking a ship from that very region," Ash responded coldly, "so perhaps you need a reality check. And I'm enjoying this evening so if you don't want any trouble, I suggest you leave now while you still can."
With that, the rude stranger walked away from the trio. Ash, Gary, and Leaf tried their hardest to forget about what just happened and enjoy their time on the ship, not wanting to waste a second of it with ruined their moods.
The trio spent a few more hours walking over the ship. A new movie caught their eyes and they opted to go watch it onboard the theater in the ship. It was the newest Pokemon movie that starred Manaphy, Kyogre, a Pokemon Ranger called Jack 'Jackie' Walker, and their adventures in a secret Temple city.
"It's getting late. We should probably head into our room and call it a night," Ash suggested as he and Pikachu yawned when the trio left the movie theater.
"I agree let's go!" Leaf agreed as the trio went back to their room, it took them no time to fall asleep as the excitement, and the journey that they had throughout the day tired them considerably.
(The next morning)
Ash woke up due to the loud sound of his alarm, turning it off instantly as he got up from his bed and tiptoed into the bathroom, taking a quick shower. After he emerged from the shower. he went into his luggage and took out his outfit. Ash decided that since today was his first day in Sinnoh that he needed to be in a fresh set of clothes, luckily his mother had prepared some new clothing for him.
His new attire consisted of a white undershirt with a sleeveless, black-collared jacket over it. The jacket was closed and had a yellow half-circle in the center. Ash wore similar black gloves, albeit this time with green borders. He also wore blue jeans with black and red sneakers along with a red hat with black coloration in the center and the top half of a blue Pokeball in the middle.
He woke up Pikachu quickly and the duo went to get some breakfast in one of the famous restaurants on the ship. It was a quick and fulfilling breakfast as the duo munched on their food, attracting the attention of some of the people around them. When the duo was done eating, they quickly left the restaurant and hurried to the deck of the ship, where they found Gary and Leaf. The duo stood to the side rail of the ship with their hands on the other.
They have been standing there for most of the morning, eagerly waiting to see the beautiful region of Sinnoh. A large flock of Wingull and Pelipper were flying next to the ship, venturing out to sea as they were close to their nests, which were in the vicinity of the coast. The skies were filled with the beating of their wings and the loud and consistent mewing. (A/N: apparently mewing is the name for the sounds that seagulls make)
"Hey sleepyhead, good to see you have finally woken up from your beauty sleep," Gary teased as he gave Ash a fist bump.
"When did you guys get up here?" Ash asked.
"About 8-9ish, we thought we were sleepy heads, but we're no match for you in that category," Gary answered with a chuckle as Leaf followed suit.
"Since you complained last night that we were getting too 'close' and leaving you out of the fun," Leaf said, "we decided to wake up earlier," Leaf mocked Ash by using her hands to make quotation marks while emphasizing the word 'early', much to Ash's dismay, "so we could come up here and have some 'lovey-dovey' time alone so we will be able to help ourselves around you today."
"How very considerate of you," Ash deadpanned as Pikachu laughed happily.
Pi Pikachu
"Attention passengers," A voice came from the huge Megaphone just above Ash, Pikachu, Gary, and Leaf, "we will be arriving in Sandgem Town in approximately 20 minutes, please take this time to pack up your personal belongings to avoid missing any items if you find yourselves in a rush. I repeat, please take this time to pack up your personal belongings as the crew of S.S. Sinnoh will not be responsible for any missing items."
"Well, I packed all my stuff before I came out here. What about you guys?" Ash asked.
"We did too, we were planning on leaving once we see part of the mainland," Leaf said, peering forward.
The trio wasn't sure, but slowly, a glimpse of green became visible to them over the horizon. As the group watched with fascination, the glimpse of green became more and more visible, eventually stretching out into a clear formation of green and brown. The land of Sinnoh was before them.
"Well, let's get going, we wouldn't want to forget anything," Gary said as the trio left the deck and went back to their room.
"Seconded, that would be most disastrous," Ash echoed.
(30 minutes later)
The trio had taken their first steps in the Sinnoh region, and they were mesmerized by the surrounding scenery. Though the feeling of wonder stayed with them, they had to keep moving. Luckily for them, the harbor was relatively close to the station that they must go to in Sandgem Town, so the trio decided to walk there.
"Hey, so are you sure we're going to be on time for the pick-up at the designated station?" Leaf asked.
"I'm sure Leaf, it says that we should there latest by 13:30, and it's only 12:50, apparently they pushed the time back by 30 minutes because of extra requests from students that live in the nearby town," Gary responded, "if I remember correctly, the nearby town is called Twinleaf Town."
"You've been there before?" Leaf asked.
"Yeah, Gramps is a student of the Pokemon Professor in Sandgem," Gary answered, reminiscing on the times when he got to play around with the native Pokemon of the Sinnoh region, "so when we visited him we would sometimes go to Twinleaf."
"What's Twinleaf like?" Ash asked.
"It's very much like Pallet Town, I can assure you of that," Gary answered, "small, serene, feels close to home. It's also home to one of the most famous Coordinators known to the world."
"Ah yes, Johanna Berlitz," Leaf interjected, "I think she had a daughter that turned 15 this year. I have a feeling that we may be able to meet her one day."
"We might just, this is a small world after all," Gary said.
"Tch, speaking of small, another town filled with boonies. Why am I not surprised?" the dirty-blonde-hair teen said as he walked by the trio without saying much more.
"Well, isn't he a delightful nugget to be around?! I hope that he at least tries to be more subtle when he's at the Academy," Leaf sweat-dropped as Pikachu just facepalmed.
"Agreed," Ash said, "would be a shame if I had to honor my word and put in his place."
"Okay, no time for dilly-dallying, let's head toward the station," Gary suggested as the group followed suit.
'AHHHHHHH'
A sound of distress came from the distance and caught the attention of the trio.
"What was that?" Leaf asked in a worried tone.
"Sounds like someone is in trouble," Gary replied.
"Pikachu, can you locate the source?" Ash asked his partner. Pikachu located the source of the sound and the direction that it originated by the twitching of his ears. The electric mouse jumped off of Ash's shoulder immediately and ran, calling out to the group to follow him.
"Alright, let's get going," Ash said as he began to run after his partner, Gary and Leaf quickly following them.
After a quick run, they found the problem, it was a blue-haired girl, a blonde boy, a blue penguin pokemon, and a black/red cat pokemon. They were trapped in webs and surrounded by a swarm of Ariados.
"Help us, we're trapped!" The blonde girl cried as the trio looked at one another and decided to act.
"This is not good. Pikachu, use Thunderbolt quickly to grab the Ariados' attention," Ash said as the electric mouse unleashed a strong jolt of electricity that shocked most of the Ariados.
"Okay, looks like we're involved," Gary said as he tossed out a Pokeball, "Umbreon, come out and use Psychic."
"You too, Espeon, use Psychic to stop them!" Leaf said as she called her pokemon.
The two pokemon materialized and quickly concentrated their minds on the Ariados surrounding the 4 trapped life forms. Sensing their location, Espeon and Umbreon used their Psychic attacks to hurl the Ariados away from the webbed targets.
"Pikachu, use Iron Tail to cut the web up, quickly, and don't get caught," Ash ordered as Pikachu use a combination of Quick Attack and Iron Tail to cut up all the webs, in a short few moments the 4 were made free.
"Thanks for saving us," The blonde boy said as the blue-haired girl nodded in agreement.
"Parties not over yet guys," Ash said, "looks like the Ariados are coming back for round 2."
"Ash, we have to get out of here, we only have 20 minutes left before the transport leaves," Gary reminded Ash as he and Leaf walked toward the two.
"Is this Piplup wild or yours?" Ash asked.
"He's my partner," The blunette answered, "what do you have in mind?"
"It would be grand if your Piplup knew the move Whirlpool, I have a way to get rid of the Ariados," Leaf said.
"Alright, he does know what move," the blunette responded, "Piplup, use Whirlpool."
Piplup chirped as he glowed a bright blue color. Water began to form above him as it became a huge pool of water.
"Good, now use your Psychic attack Espeon, hurl the Whirlpool at the Ariados," Leaf instructed as Espeon's eyes glowed a deep blue, taking control of the whirlpool. Espeon sent it crashing into the swarm of Ariados, trapping them all within the pool of water.
"Ash! Now!" Gary called out as Ash nodded.
"Pikachu, use Thunderbolt!"
Pikachu unleashed a jolt of electricity that made an impact with the whirlpool, electrocuting all the Ariados within. The attack went on for a few seconds as the whirlpool dissipated and the Ariados were all knocked out.
The group sighed collectively as the trouble had been solved, however, Gary was notified that the transport was leaving in 15 minutes.
"We gotta go! 15 minutes left!" Gary yelled as he started running, Ash and Leaf following him closely. Ash and Pikachu turned around and wave at the people they just saved, but they were surprised to see them running behind them.
"Are you guys also using the transport?" Ash asked as the duo nodded to confirm his inquiry.
Eventually, the group arrived at the train station, they were glad to find that they were on time and the transport had only just begun letting people on.
"Phew, we made it in time," Ash took a deep breath as he took a seat at the back of the transport along with Gary and Leaf. He sat by the window as Pikachu joined him, sitting on his lap. The trio was pleasantly surprised that the two people they had just saved were walking toward them. The blue-haired girl took a seat at the row in front of them as the blonde boy followed her.
"Hey so, thanks for saving us earlier," the blonde boy said, "my name is Barry Pearl, and this is my friend Dawn Berlitz, we're new students at Hearthome Academy."
Leaf perked up as she heard the name 'Berlitz', and she began to tug on Gary's sleeves lightly.
"It's the daughter of Johanna Berlitz. See? I told you! My intuition was right!" She exclaimed as Gary just grinned.
"Nice to meet you both. My name is Gary Oak," Gary introduced himself as well as Ash and Leaf, "this is my girlfriend Leaf Green and my best friend, Ash Ketchum. We're also attending Hearthome Academy."
"Nice to meet you guys! This is my partner Pikachu," Ash waved as Barry and Dawn waved back with big smiles.
Pika Pikachu. Pikachu waved his little paws and jumped toward Barry and Dawn, the latter welcoming him into her arms as she began to pat his head.
"Well, looks like my Pikachu approves of you two already," Ash grinned.
"So what are you guys most excited to study at the Academy?" Barry asked the trio.
"I'm aiming to become a pokemon researcher, so I'm most excited about the Pokemon Research classes," Gary answered.
"I'm excited for the Battle Classes," Leaf added.
"As am I," Ash said with a wide grin, "what about you guys?"
"I'm excited for Pokemon Contests," Dawn answered, "I'm trying to follow the footsteps of my mother, Johanna."
"That's awesome!" Leaf said as Dawn's cheek flushed with a faint red color, "what about you Barry?"
"Same as you and Ash, I'm also excited in Battle Class," Barry responded, "trying to become a Sinnoh Frontier Brain, like my father before me."
"Sounds like an admirable thing to do, good on you!" Ash exclaimed.
Pika Pika
"By the way Gary, are you in any way related to the Pokemon Professor Samuel Oak from the Kanto Region?" Barry asked.
"Yes, I am his grandson, I got recommended to the Academy due to his connection and I brought these two along with me since we're close like family," Gary responded.
"Yeah, Barry and I took the entrance exams a few weeks ago to get sorted into classes. so we're looking forward to finding out what classes the both of us are in," Dawn stated, "even though the semester starts tomorrow, we only have a few days left of the week so my guess is there will be announcements and other housekeeping issues, even if there is a lot of that going on."
"Yeah, we won't have many classes for the rest of the week," Gary pointed out, "we'll have an opening ceremony tomorrow, but I think that's it."
"Well, that just leaves more time for me to catch some new pokemon," Ash exclaimed, "I'm excited to see the pokemon that live around the Academy grounds."
Pi Pikachu
"By the way, how long is the ride from Sandgem Town to Hearthome City?" Gary asked.
"It's roughly 8 hours on this transport since this is the express rented by the Academy," Dawn explained, "otherwise it would take about 10 hours to get there."
"Well, guess we just need to sit tight then," Ash said as he placed his hat over his eyes, taking a comfortable nap.
(8 hours later)
The transport had finally arrived at Hearthome Academy, coming to a stop. Ash, Gary, Leaf, Barry, and Dawn all got off the transport, grabbing their belongings as they left the vehicle. What surprised them was the sight of Professor Rowan and Professor Oak, who were both waiting at the station to greet the students who arrived from the stop in Twinleaf Town.
"Gramps! Long time no see!" Gary waved as he ran towards Professor Oak, the two sharing a quick hug.
"Gary, my boy! It's good to see you again, it's been too long," Samuel said as he turned towards Ash and Leaf, "bless my heart, Ash and Leaf, it's only been 2 years since last I last saw you, yet you've grown taller, it's good to see you both."
Ash and Leaf both greeted Professor Oak as more students began streaming out of the transports that followed.
"Well, I would love to chat, but we need to get you all sorted out into your dorm rooms, you've all got a big day tomorrow," Samuel said, "Nathaniel and Julia will be your dorm room guides for the night. Girls, please follow Nicole while the boys will follow Nathaniel."
Ash, Gary, Barry, and the rest of the boys followed Nathaniel as they were led to their dorm rooms
The walk wasn't long as the boys found out that they were on one end of the dorm building, and their rooms were on the first floor. The colors and texture on the wall were fairly simple, with dark shades of all the colors on the color spectrum. The colors were encased in a wheel-like shape scattered across the wall. Inside each section of the wheel were different Pokemon from the different types and regions.
"Before I tell you your room numbers, I should tell you that each room will have 4 members living within," Nathaniel said, "the members of each room will need to go to Professor Rowan and Professor Oak's office tomorrow to pick up your elected Starter Pokemon and other devices crucial to your success at the Academy. Any questions?"
"2 months ago, the Academy asked us to send our Pokedex's to the school, I was wondering if we will be getting the updated versions tomorrow?" Barry asked.
"Good question, Mr. Pearl. Yes, you will receive your new and improved Pokedex's tomorrow," Nathaniel answered.
A few students, including Barry and Gary, pumped their fists as they were excited to receive their updated dex's. It has been a while since some of them had access to the newest tech, and they were excited to finally be able to take advantage of the development in technology.
"There will also be an information session that you will have to attend tomorrow regarding the school year. It will be in the afternoon, the time slot will be in a packet that is already in your rooms," Nathaniel explained, "Any more questions?"
The group was silent as they shook their heads. Nathaniel waited for a few more seconds before taking a few sheets of paper out of his binder.
"Okay then! We will begin with room 101. Ash Ketchum, Gary Oak, Barry Pearl, you three will be roommates," Nathaniel said as he handed all three boys a key for their room, "your 4th roommate has already arrived earlier today and he should be inside."
Ash, Gary, and Barry nodded as they went to unlock their dorm room door. It was fairly dark inside as the lights were dimmed, and they noticed that the roommate that they were told off was sleeping on the lower half of a bunk bed. The trio closed the door quietly and placed their belongings down.
"So, should we unpack now? I don't want to disturb the sleeping guy," Barry whispered.
"Will we have even time tomorrow? I agree with Barry here," Ash asked.
"We might not. I think we might just have to do it quietly today," Gary responded.
The trio shrugged as each of them tiptoed around the room, choosing a part of the room to claim as their own. Ash chose the top bunk of the empty bed while Gary chose the bottom bunk. This meant that Barry was left with the top bunk of the bed taken by their roommate.
"Pikachu, help me unpack!" Ash said as his friend helped him unpack.
The trio then spent the next few hours unpacking. As the clock struck Gary received a message from Leaf telling him that the girls were done unpacking and ready to go to bed. Gary informed Ash and Barry and they agreed to meet up with the girls in the morning at around 7:45 to introduce their roommates to each other.
The trio went to bed promptly, sleeping well as their long journey had finally ended.
(The Next morning)
It was roughly 7 in the morning, the Academy was already bustling with life as people and pokemon alike moved from spot to spot. It was an exciting day, it was the day that many students would end up getting their starter pokemon, along with the rest of their supplies.
Ash opened his eyes as he sat up from his bed, rubbing his eyes and stretching himself, beside him, Pikachu reacted to his trainer's movement as the electric mouse greeted Ash by jumping up to his shoulder and nuzzling his face. He saw his friends Gary and Barry still sleeping soundly, so he did his best to keep quiet.
"Good morning Pikachu," Ash whispered as he greeted his partner.
Pika Pikachu
"Oh hey, you're awake," a strange voice said softly as Ash saw his roommate, a relatively tall teen with purple hair. He was currently organizing his room with the help of his pokemon, a yellow bipedal pokemon.
"Come Elekid, we got more to organize before we need to leave," the purple-haired teen said to his pokemon.
Ele Elekid
Ash climbed out of his bed to take out his blue-collared jacket and dark blue jeans, along with his red and black high-top sneakers. He placed his attire for the day by the side of his bed. After that, Ash got up and proceeded to walk to the bathroom.
"Is that bathroom open?" He asked his roommate.
"Yep, it's all yours," The purple-haired teen replied as Ash hastily entered the bathroom to get freshened up for the day. He jumped into the shower quickly, turning on the water and feeling the cool sensation flow over his body.
Boy did he love showers.
after 10 minutes, he left the shower, dried himself up then proceeded to wash his face and brush his teeth before leaving the bathroom. He walked over to his bed and put on his attire for the day, now ready to start his day.
"Hey, I never introduced myself," Ash said as he walked over to his roommate, "name's Ash Ketchum. I'm from Pallet Town in the Kanto Region."
"Nice to meet you, Ash," the purple-haired teen greeted, "Paul Shinji, from Veilstone City. I'm a Sinnoh Native."
"Cool, my friends are Gary and Barry," Ash said as he pointed at Gary and then at Barry, "we're planning on meeting our friends in 30 minutes to introduce our roommate, in this case, you, would you fancy tagging along?"
"Sounds like a good idea, but shouldn't we wake them up then?" Paul suggested. Ash agreed as he went over to both their beds and nudged them, causing the two of them to wake up.
After about 25 minutes of preparation, Barry and Gary were ready to leave. The blonde teen and Auburn-haired teen introduced themselves to Paul before the group walked toward the girl's side of the dorm.
As the group passed the hallway, they noticed that the girl's dorm hallway had a similar design to the boy's side. The only difference being instead of darker colors in the wheel, the girl's side was brighter colors, also in a wheel. There were also different pokemon species in the two different wheels.
Gary knocked on dorm room number 105 as Leaf had told him her dorm number. The group waited quietly and after a few moments, Leaf opened the door and walked out with Dawn and two other girls.
"Hi Leaf, I trust the unpacking went well?" Gary greeted the group as the boys waved at the girls.
"Smooth as your Umbreon's fur, honey," Leaf hugged him and then walked over to her roommates, "you all know Dawn, so I don't need to introduce her."
"This is Zoey Haddon, she's from Snowpoint City in the northern part of the region," Leaf said as she walked towards the girl with short spiked red hair.
"She's a Sinnoh native, like me and Barry," Dawn interjected, earning a nod from the rest of the girls.
"Nice to meetcha! Hope we can be friends!" Zoey waved at the boys.
"My name is Bianca Bel, I'm from Nuvema Town in the Unova region," A girl with blonde hair said.
"Well nice to meet you, girls," Barry said, "My name is Barry Pearl, I'm a friend of Dawn's from Twinleaf and also a Sinnoh native."
"As am I," Paul said, "I am from Veilstone City just east of here."
"I'm Gary Oak, my grandfather is Professor Oak. This is Ash. He and I are best friends from Pallet Town in the Kanto Region and Leaf is my girlfriend," Gary stated, "so Ash, Barry, Paul, and I need to go see gramps and Professor Rowan at 8:15, so we are planning on heading over."
"Wait really?" Zoey stated in a surprising tone, "we're also supposed to meet them at 8:15."
"Maybe there's a mistake?" Bianca wondered as she placed a finger on her chin.
"Only one way to find out," Paul said as the group all walked toward their meeting spot.
(5 minutes later)
The group of 8 had arrived at the Professor's office, they were about 2 minutes early, but they didn't want to waste any time so Gary went ahead and knocked on the door. There was no answer initially so the group conversed for a while until the door opened, and out came Professor Oak
"Ah, students, sorry for the wait, you can come in now."
The group followed Professor Oak inside the office and arrived in a spacious room, there was a table with
"Ah, good to meet you, students. Before we get started with your starter pokemon choice session, let me give you the most heartfelt welcome to Hearthome Academy. We are both happy to see you," Professor Rowan said.
"We'll be giving you your starters in a moment. After that, you will have to go to the Lab office to retrieve your upgraded Pokedex and your TechNavs from Professor Cedric Juniper. You will also receive 10 pokeballs each from Professor Kurt to catch pokemon with," Prof Oak notified the group.
"When you're done retrieving those, make your way to the Campus Center shop where Professor Andrew Park will be handing out all of your required textbooks and school equipment to you," Professor Rowan said
"Please gather around here," Professor Oak motioned the students to join him at the table that had 25 different pokeballs. The group stared at them as they looked at the names of all the pokemon, trying to find their pick.
"Here are the 25 pokemon that are available for you to choose from this academy." Prof Rowan explained, "as I'm sure you may know, the 3 starters from Kanto to Galar that are fire, grass, and water type, as well as Eevee from the Kanto region."
The group took about a second to look at all the pokeballs before stepping back, ready to pick up their Pokemon.
"Looks like everyone is ready to pick their Pokemon," Professor Rowan said after seeing the students move back, "so, who would like to go first?"
Dawn and Gary's hands shot up first, and they said, simultaneously, "I would like to." they both turned to each other briefly before Gary gestured for Dawn to go first.
"Thanks." Dawn smiled at Gary, "I'll take Cyndaquil please." Dawn said as she walked towards Piplup's Pokeball.
"A fine choice, young lady." Professor Oak said, "This is Cyndaquil's Pokeball."
Dawn thanked Professor Oak before stepping away from the table. Gary, Barry, Leaf, Paul, and Bianca proceeded to pick their pokemon after her, their choices being Squirtle, Litten, Bulbasaur, Turtwig, and Tepig respectively. Professor Oak handed them each the Pokeball that belonged to the pokemon they chose.
"Okay, that leaves us with Ash Ketchum and Zoey Haddon," Professor Rowan said.
"I would like to forego this option." Zoey said, "I already have two pokemon with me. My Glameow and Misdreavous."
"Me too, and you already know why, I want to catch a new pokemon here," Ash added.
"Ah, well that is also fine." Professor Rowan said.
"Well looks like you've all made your choices," Professor Oak stated.
"The opening ceremony will take place this afternoon, more about the school year will be revealed then." Professor Rowan added, "For now, you are dismissed, I would recommend heading over to the Lab Office now."
The teens all said goodbye to the Professors and walked outside. The door closed as the group walked towards the Lab Office to get their equipment. After following the map directions scattered around campus, the group eventually found the Lab office after a lengthy walk.
The Lab office had a grey steel door with a doorbell next to it. The walls around it were complete, almost as if to prevent someone outside from looking at the secrets inside, or for stopping something inside from coming outside. Leaf went ahead and rang the doorbell. The group waited for a brief moment before the door opened, and a Professor of medium stature walked out of the room.
"Come in students," Professor Juniper said as he welcomed the students into the laboratory.
"Hi! My name is Professor Cedric Juniper, I am the supervisor of the Lab Office. I am also teaching 'History of Sinnoh: Hisui' this year," Professor Juniper said, "now, let's not keep you youngsters waiting. Please tell me your names and I will retrieve your upgraded Pokedexes for you."
The group of 8 all told him their names and he quickly located the Dexes, he also brought their TechNavs and guided them on how to synchronize their TechNavs with their Pokedexes. After the process was done, Professor Kurt walked out with 8 trays of Pokeballs and handed them all to the students.
Roughly half an hour later, the students had retrieved everything they needed and made their way to the Campus Center Shop. They got all their books and stationery from Professor Andrew Park. The group quickly separated to put their things back in their rooms.
(A few hours later, at the Opening Ceremony)
The group of 8 were some of the first students in the Grand Academy Auditorium, waiting for the Opening Ceremony to begin. As the students continued streaming into the Academy, one couldn't help but feel excited at the prospect of the Academy opening.
Once all of the 2500 students have gathered in the auditorium, Professor Rowan and Professor Oak took to the podium and gestured for everyone to be silent.
"Welcome Students, to the first-ever Opening Ceremony of Hearthome Academy," Professor Rowan announced as the students all clapped and cheered, showing their support and excitement for the new school.
"I am Professor Arthur Rowan."
"And I am Professor Samuel Oak."
"We are pleased to welcome you here," Professor Oak continued, "we have organized and planned the construction of the facility for the last decade, and 5 years ago, we finally allocated enough funding to begin construction of the Academy."
"Now that this is complete, we can welcome all of you here this day," Professor Rowan added.
"The goal of this institution is to nurture and produce the best of Trainers and Coordinators, as well as Researchers, Breeders, and all other professional positions. After three years of excellence, we are looking forward to graduating you to the outside world, where you may continue to work on making your dreams come true," Prof Oak said.
"We are pleased to announce that we have a great team of teachers and assistants here at the Academy. Some of which you might have already read about in the information packets that we have left in your room," Professor Rowan stated, "they were handpicked by Professor Oak and myself to ensure the highest quality of education can be provided for you."
"But enough about the past. The future is here and now, and we are eagerly looking forward to that future," Professor Oak stated.
"There are many activities prepared for you all, but there is one particular that you must all be curious about," Professor Rowan continued as the screen behind him lit up, showing a projection to the students, "You must all be wondering why you were all separated into teams of 8 consisting of Trainers, Coordinators, and students seeking professions in other fields. There will be two tournaments in May next year for Battlers and Coordinators to enter. Every team can join and the team with the highest total points will win a trip to a famous landmark of their choosing in the Sinnoh Region."
"Professor Oak will tell us about this, so, please, Samuel," Professor Rowan said as Professor Oak motioned for Professor Rowan to move the presentation forward.
"All of you have been divided into teams of 8. Since there are 2000 students present, that makes 250 groups. Each group will earn points through academic excellence and through competitions that run throughout the school year." Professor Oak explained, "The competition revolves around participation in monthly events. There will be many events throughout the year, but for you Coordinators and Trainers, a ranked competition will take place every Saturday morning and Sunday morning later this semester until the end of March next year. All of you may choose to participate in this event."
The students began to murmur as they were getting excited about hearing about a competition.
"We still have to finalize some details regarding this ranked competition, so expect to hear something about it in the next few weeks," Professor Rowan added.
"Hearthome Academy is surrounded by forests and different environments, thanks to the generosity of the Hearthome City Council. We were allowed to build our Academy on the area previously known as the 'Amity Square'. Many Pokemon live in the surrounding environments, though they are mostly first-stage or second-stage pokemon. I would advise all of you to have in your possession at least 2 pokemon if you so desire. However, we have one rule regarding the number of Pokemon you are allowed to have."
"We would like to limit that number to 4 Pokemon for the first semester. Why do we have that limit? You may ask," Professor Oak explained as the students were curious about that decision, "Well, we believe that to raise pokemon to the best of your ability, you should focus only on 4 pokemon. But more importantly, being away from home is a big challenge for many teenagers, whether you'd like to admit it or not. We want you to succeed, so having too much on your plate in the first semester did not seem healthy."
"However, come your second semester, there will be an evaluation that tests your grades, your achievements, your progress in your respective fields, and your personal growth," Professor Rowan added, "If you are deemed ready to move on to the next stage, you will be allowed to catch your final 2 pokemon, thus creating the full team you can use for the tournaments.
"With that, we have concluded the Ceremony. It's not late enough yet, and I'm sure many of you are eager to move around the campus," Professor Oak concluded, "so please, join me in concluding the Hearthome Academy's first-ever Opening Ceremony."
The students all reacted with happiness, excitement, and energy. There were different sounds from every which way. Students were cheering, whistling, clapping, crying out in joy as their Academy life had officially begun.
In the crowd, Ash and Pikachu looked around them, excited at the prospect of working towards his dream. Though it was loud around them, Ash's eyes were fixated on the screen showing the Logo of Hearthome Academy.
I'm finally going to begin my journey at Hearthome Academy. This will be my first step to becoming a Pokemon Master, the Greatest of them all.
That's chapter 1 redone. Hope you guys enjoyed this one.
I'm trying to add more to the story, and it's not that I think my previous story was that bad, but I just wanted to tell more about the story, and I think that to do that, I have to redo the story, with more detail, more storylines, and more exposition.
