Hello again everyone! It's me, PuzzleMaster1998, with another brand-new story!

It's Dinotopia!

I remember reading some of the books as a kid, and I loved the animated film they made, even though I realize now that it deviated heavily from the books.

I love it so much, that, I've decided to write a story about it.

And I am making one big change.

The dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures are anthros! I figured it'd make the story much more interesting. Don't get mad at me for doing that please!

This story will contain: adventure, magic, romance, fights, transformations, anthros, and many other things!

Disclaimer: I do not own Dinotopia. That right goes to James Gurney!

Now, let's begin our tale!

Arrival

Flying through the sunny sky over the Indian Ocean was a small single-engine plane that was white in color. Flying the plane was a middle-aged and somewhat short Australian man with tanned skin, a slim build, short black hair, and green eyes.

"So, mate? What brings you to this part of the world?" The man asked his one passenger, who sat behind him next to the door. Said passenger was a 16-year-old, 6-foot-tall boy with lightly tanned skin, bright blue eyes, and short blondish brown hair. He had on blue shorts, blue sneakers with green laces, white socks, and a black shirt with a red fox on it, as well as a leather necklace with a cat and fox made up of some sort of purple stone or gem as the centerpiece. He was holding a backpack in his hands, while a couple suitcases sat next to his feet, attached to his waist by some rope so they wouldn't slide all around the cabin.

"Oh, just exploring," The boy replied in a friendly and kind voice as he looked out the window.

"'Exploring' ey?" The pilot said as he looked back at the boy. "Or do you mean running away?"

"I'm not running away," Gavin replied with a frown. "I'm just trying to find a place where I can help people."

"Oh, I see," The pilot said with realization as he looked back at the windshield and sky before him, before he gained a surprised look. "Oh fuck me dead!" He cursed, catching Gavin's attention.

"What is it sir?"

"Look ahead mate," The pilot replied, prompting him to do so, and his eyes widened upon seeing a massive wall of dark clouds in front of them.

"Oh," Gavin said.

"'Oh' indeed mate," The pilot said as the storm rapidly approached them. "That there's a bloomin' typhoon!"

"Can't we turn around?" Gavin asked the pilot.

"Not really mate," The pilot replied with a shake of his head. "I could try, but with how fast that storm's approaching, it'd be better if we just went through it, the outskirts of it at least."

"You've got to be kidding me!" Gavin said to the pilot, who shook his head again.

"Afraid not, so buckle up!" He said as he took the controls with a grin, while Gavin groaned and did so, making sure everything was secure.

'Why did I end up with the daredevil pilot?' He thought to himself with a sigh, before they entered the clouds, everything getting dark quickly. Lightning periodically lit up the plane, while thunder pealed out like church bells, making it vibrate.

"Woah Nellie!" The pilot said as he held onto the controls tightly. "This is some typhoon! Probably the biggest one I've ever attempted to fly through."

"You've flown through typhoons before?!"

"Oh all the time," The pilot replied as the plane wobbled side to side a bit, narrowly avoiding getting hit by lightning a few times. "They're quite common during the monsoon season."

"Well I hope you can get us through this one quickly," Gavin said as he looked out the window, before lightning then hit the plane, shorting out the instruments and making them start to fall down. "Oh shit!" Gavin cursed as they fell down nose first.

"Come on girl!" The pilot said to his plane as he pushed on the "Start" button while pulling back on the yoke, trying to level out the plane. "Come on!"

They continued to fall through the clouds, before they broke through them and saw the rough ocean below them. Then, the engine started again, causing the pilot to shout out "Yes!" before he yanked on the yoke again, making the plane level out and go back up just before they hit the water, a wave hitting one of its wheels.

"Oh, thank goodness!" Gavin said with relief as the man flew over the rough water.

"Don't relax just yet mate," The pilot replied. "We still have a ways to get through this storm, and it knocked out all my instruments. It's going to be difficult to get out of it."

"Well, I hope you can get us out," He said to the man as the plane shook from the thunder once more. "I'd like to get to South Africa in one piece."

"Don't worry, I'll get you the-"

*KRAKOOOOOM!*

"Holy shit!" Gavin screamed as the door was blown off by a massive bolt of lightning, causing wind and rain to whip around inside the cabin.

"Good thing I have insurance," The pilot muttered to himself as he continued to fly the plane over the waves, not daring to go into the clouds and possibly have the plane ripped apart by the winds. The winds were pushing very hard on them down below the clouds as well, making it hard for him to go straight.

A few minutes later, the plane was forced to the left by a very strong gust of wind, before another lightning bolt struck the plane, this time making the propeller explode into pieces and frying all the electronics on it, including the black box and tracking systems.

"Well, fuck," The pilot said as the plane was tossed around in the wind. "Prepare to get wet mate!"

"I'm already wet!"

"Well get ready to get even wetter!" The man replied as the plane was tossed around, before it slammed into the ocean, shattering the windshield and causing the ocean water to come pouring in. As soon as that happened, Gavin and the man unbuckled their seatbelts and got out of the plane as fast as they could, holding onto the plane once they had gotten outside.

Gavin's suitcases floated behind him, being specially made by a company to not sink as long as they weren't overpacked or opened. "Now what?!" Gavin yelled at the man over the storm as he tried to keep a grip on the plane, which was starting to sink.

"I don't know!" The man yelled, before a large wave came and hit Gavin, sending him under the surface briefly. When he came back up, he saw that the man was further away than before. "Hold on! I'm coming!" The man shouted as he tried to swim after Gavin, but to no avail. He was caught in a very fast current that was pushing him away.

Gavin opened his mouth to call out to the man but was sent under the water again by another wave, making him cough and sputter when he came back up. The man was even further away this time, the current moving him and the plane away a bit more as it sank, soon disappearing completely below the surface. "Hold on!" Gavin yelled at the man, before he was sent underwater again by yet another wave, which pushed him back even more.

When he came back up and looked to where he had last seen the pilot, he was dismayed to find that the storm had grown even worse and was obscuring his vision with large waves, rain, and wind. "Oh come on!" Gavin yelled at the sky. "Seriously?! Is this how my life is going to end? In the middle of the ocean?!" He shouted as he swam in place, before a suitcase bumped into him. "Oh thank goodness," He said with relief upon remembering he still had his two suitcases, his backpack on his back. "I can use you two as a raft," He continued as he pushed the two suitcases together and crawled onto them, curling his body up so that very little of it was still in the water.

He then laid there, thinking of how in the world he'd survive this, while the Typhoon raged on and on around him, drifting aimlessly in the water.

Several hours later, he felt something touch his foot, and he jumped, falling into the water with surprise and floundering a bit as he quickly went to climb back onto his suitcases. "Sharks!" He said with fear as he got back onto them and looked at the water around him, which was still dark due to the storm going on. Then, he saw a fin breach the water, and he relaxed a bit upon seeing the shape of the fin. "Oh thank goodness, it's only dolphins," He continued with a sigh, before he felt his foot get touched again, making him jump a bit again. Fortunately, he didn't fall into the water again.

Then, he saw more dolphin fins breach the surface around him, before he felt his makeshift raft start to get pushed forward.

"Are they…helping me?" He said with surprise as he looked at the fins, before he felt the rain stop, prompting him to look up at the sky and see that the dark clouds were disappearing, revealing the star-covered night sky. "Wow," he muttered with awe, having never seen so many stars before, before he yawned, feeling tired from what he had just been through. He then rested his head and fell asleep.

Once he was asleep, some of the dolphins stuck out their heads from under the water to breathe, with some staring at him as he slept.

"This one feels different," One dolphin said quietly to the others in a young female voice as they pushed the suitcase raft. "Unlike the others on the island. Do you guys feel it, or am I just imagining things?"

"No, I feel it too," Another dolphin replied quietly.

"So do I," Another dolphin said, with others chiming in as well, saying the same thing quietly. They all could feel it. This boy was special. They weren't sure how, but they knew he was.

They continued to push and push the suitcase forward through the water, with other dolphins taking their places so they could rest.

A few hours later, the boy woke up, and yawned as he looked around, before sighing. "Oh, that wasn't a dream," he said, frowning a bit. "Hope that pilot survives," He continued, before he noticed that he was still being pushed by dolphins, who were staying underwater as much as possible. "Where are you guys taking me?" He asked them, before he looked forward, and his eyes widened with shock and surprise. "Oh" was all he could say as he stared at the large island in front of him.

'This island isn't on any map I've seen,' He thought as they headed towards it, staring at it with awe and wonder. 'How could that be? Satellites should have picked this place up.' As he looked at it, getting closer and closer to the island, a small wave rocked the raft, and he tumbled forward, having not expected the wave.

*SPLASH!*

"Well, that's one way to make sure I'm awake," he said as he spat saltwater out of his mouth and clambered back onto the suitcase raft, while some of the dolphins chuckled underwater. "At least I know this isn't a dream," he continued.

A couple hours later, the dolphins stopped, before they turned over the raft, making him fall into the water with a loud "SPLASH!"

"Seriously?!" He said as he floundered around in the water for a bit, before he felt his toes touch bottom. "Oh," he continued with realization. "I see." He then turned around and pushed the suitcases to the side to look at the dolphins, who had just their heads sticking out of the water. "Um, thank you," He said to them gratefully, before one dolphin moved forward towards him. "For bringing me here," He continued as the dolphin got closer and closer, before it was directly in front of him.

It then leaned forward and pressed its beak against his lips in a very wet kiss, before it spoke. "You're welcome," It said in a friendly and playful female voice, making his eyes widen with shock before she turned and quickly swam off, the rest of her pod going with her.

"What. The. FUCK?!" He exclaimed, before one of the dolphins jumped up out of the waves, making his eyes widen even more when he saw the dolphin had a more humanoid appearance. "HOLY SHIT!" He cursed as he swam back a bit with shock. "They're anthros?!"

He stared at the retreating dolphins with wide eyes and shock on his face as he swam and bounced on his toes in place, his mind racing with questions. "Wha-Wha-Wha-What in the fuck?!" he cursed again with shock and extreme confusion, before he missed the bottom on one bounce and went under, sputtering as he came back up. "Blegh! I need to get to shore," He continued as he turned towards the shore and started to swim towards it, his mind still racing as he went.

He swam and swam for a good fifteen minutes before his feet could rest firmly on the sandy bottom. And once they could, he started to walk, using his hands to help propel him forward until the water was waist deep, at which point he stopped using his hands.

After about five more minutes had passed, he reached the sandy shore, and he let out a sigh of relief as he dragged his suitcases up onto the shore with him, before he sat down on the sand, looking out at the water as he did so.

"Thank goodness this island is here," Gavin said as he sat there, sighing with relief. "At least I'm not drifting in the ocean still." Then, his mind brought up what he had just witnessed several minutes. "But why the fuck are the dolphins anthros?!" he continued, before he spotted a couple of them jump out of the water again. "It makes no sense! And how the hell has this place not been found?!"

He sat there for several minutes, trying to come up with answers to those questions, but he soon groaned and sighed as he rubbed his head, not able to think of any. "Ugh! This is so weird!" he said with a sigh, before his stomach then growled with hunger. "I need to eat," He continued before he pulled over one suitcase and opened it, smiling when he saw that the interior, which was lined with waterproof plastic, hadn't been breached by the ocean. He then grabbed a can of salmon and opened it, before he eagerly devoured the salmon inside, humming happily as he ate it. Once the can had been emptied completely, he put the can in a small plastic bag that he then zipped shut, before putting it in the suitcase and closing it up. "Ah, much better," he continued, before he stood up and turned around.

He stared at the island intently for several minutes, before he sighed.

"Well, only one thing I can do now," He said, before he started to walk forward, completely unaware that ever since the dolphins had found him and started bringing him to the island, his life had been forever changed and would never be the same again.

Well, this was an interesting chapter!

Can't wait to write more!

This story takes place about 150 years after the first book James Gurney wrote, which takes place in the 1860s.

Please leave a review!

So, I have some bad news for my readers. You use, I am graduating this semester, and will be moving back to live with my parents. I'll be living with them while taking some more core courses and then applying ot grad school, and hopefully then I can move out of their house, but I can't say for certain. So, I will be going on a very long hiatus. NOT A PERMANENT ONE. It'll probably be a couple of years before I return to this site or the other sites I'm on. I won't abandon my stories, or you guys.
