"Cassian! Where are you taking me?"

I smirked, covering her eyes and guiding her through the House of Wind, "It's Valentine's Day Nes, and as your mate I've planned a surprise for you."

"But where are you taking me?"

I stayed silent as we got to the balcony and let go of her, "Don't look," I whispered in her ear before moving towards the table I had set up.

She bit her lip, smiling a little but not opening her eyes. I pulled her chair out, lit the candles, and put a napkin over my arm like a personal waiter, "Okay Nes, now you could open your eyes."

Nesta gasped at me, taking in everything I had done. A smirk made its way to my lips as she slowly took a step towards me, "It's beautiful," another step, "...Thank you. This means so much."

My smirk widened into a grin. "Your seat m'lady," I said, bowing a little.

She laughed, taking my hand before sitting down; I pushed her chair in, grabbing a platter of salad and placing it down in front of her before serving her. I then made my way to my seat before serving myself. Nesta took a bite, "How long have you been planning this?"

A month. "Not long."

Her lip quirked up, "Liar."

When she finished her salad I got up and got the next platter, "_ you're favorite," I served her again before serving myself and sitting down.

She took a bite, moaning softly, "Thank you. This is all so beautiful."

Before me, she seemed to glow, and pressure started to build… apprehension for the question I was about to ask. Nesta raised an eyebrow, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing, I'm just thinking."

She rolled her hand, "Abouttt…"

"It wasn't so long ago that we couldn't stand to be in the same room as each other, let alone have a nice dinner."

"We have come far, haven't we?," She smirked, "Butttt if we're being honest… Despite myself, I liked you first."

"Well, I confessed first."

"Well, I said 'I love you' first!"

"Well," I got up from my seat and got to a knee, "I proposed first."

Her mouth dropped, "Wait what?"

"I thought you might want to make our mating ceremony a bit more traditional to a human. I know you didn't choose to become fae."

"Oh Cassian…. I did choose. I chose you."

Everything inside me brightened as I opened the ring box, revealing a black gemstone with red and gold streaks going through it, "So, will you marry me?"

Her eyes widened and she smiled again, "Of course! But I don't need a ring to know you love me."

I got to my feet and slipped the ring on her finger, smiling back at her, "You're right, you don't. But I wanted to get it for you."

"I love you Cass. Happy Valentine's Day."

"Happy Valentine's Day," I whispered before leaning down and kissing her, "I love you."
