Author's Note

Before you read this, I haven't finished Harry Potter yet but I did do a lot of research on things. I watched Half-Blood Prince and saw the Unbreakable Promise and Snape kill Dumbledore and I instantly thought of this. I noticed that Snape hesitated so there had to be SOMETHING going on in there. I really enjoyed the movie so I wanted to write about it. I hope you enjoy this story and thank you for reading and supporting me!

It all comes down to this. The Unbreakable Promise. The promise to protect Draco Malfoy. The promise to do whatever Voldemort says.

His hand was tied with the person's in front of him. He was chosen, but why? Why did he have to do this? Why did he have to do what was told of him? Why did he agree to this? Sure, he knows what happens if you break an Unbreakable Promise. If you don't do as promised, it slowly squeezes your arm until it eventually leads to death. So why did he do it? Why? What was the reason?

It all started a long time ago, with his father and mother. His mother, a muggle, married a wizard and then, he was born. His father had hoped him to be a wizard, which, in due time, he proved to be true. His mother and father were proud of him. They sent him to Hogwarts, for one year, and when he returned, he had discovered the horrible truth; the truth in which he never learned.

The truth, which the police had told him when he arrived back, that his parents had died in the hands of Voldemort. He never understood why, in fact, he never knew why, but he never wanted to know. His parents were gone and that is all he cared about. But even then, that faded away. It grew to hatred for this 'Voldemort' which he planned for revenge.

The police had asked him if he had any other guardians to watch him, as he was too young to be on his own. Before he could reply, the headmaster of Hogwarts, Dumbledore as he was called, offered to take him in. Of course, the police accepted that and he was taken under Dumbledore's care.

Dumbledore invited him to live with him at Hogwarts, and he trained him in magic. Although, he wasn't as strong as the others. They never wanted to be around him, thinking he was 'weird.' The one who hated him the most was Potter. He always teased him and pushed him to the ground. Just because he was different, Potter found it as an excuse to pick on him.

He never grew very fond of Potter. However, on his second year at Hogwarts, a new class was introduced, Potion Making. He decided to give it a chance. Perhaps, he could be as strong as the others in potions as they are in magic.

So, he entered. Dumbledore explained to him that the class is harder than it seems. When he asked him how he knew, the headmaster explained that the class has always been a part of wizardry, just has never been accepted into Hogwarts.

When the class started, each student was given a book on the potions a wizard should know. The instructions weren't vague, but they weren't specific. For the first few weeks, he failed the class, the teacher keeping his eye on him. So, he decided then to study the best ways of making the potions mentioned in that book. He stayed in his room, all day, after school, after meals, perfecting the potions, and once perfecting, taking note of anything amiss in the book. After all, it was his book; he put his name on it, or, at least what he called himself 'The Half-Blood Prince.'

Although, he did have one friend in Hogwarts, Lily Evans. She was his childhood friend, and they have known each other for a long time before Hogwarts. She didn't stay near him much, but she did occasionally give him a greeting. She also bid him farewell as they left for their rooms in the night. He liked some attention, but, he never really minded being alone. It's not like he wasn't there. Even Potter gave him some sort of attention, in a rude way, but he did.

Sometimes, however, Potter would push him into the ground, once even humiliating him in front of everyone, disarming his wand and pushing him into the mud. He never liked Potter, and disliked him more when Potter married Lily. His childhood friend, the one he loved, married to another man, one who would bully him for being different.

Dumbledore would do his best to be a good father to him. The day he came back from being humiliated in front of the whole school, Dumbledore helped him, clean up and taught him not to let anyone push him around. Dumbledore was like the father he never had. Dumbledore was a good man, he knew it, but he couldn't let him in. He wanted to but, he didn't want to let another into his heart, after both his parents died. Then, he locked himself up more once Lily married Potter, then made him his Best Man.

Being the Best Man for Potter and Lily's wedding was the worst experience he ever had. Dumbledore tried to help him, he tried to comfort him, but he didn't let him. He was too humiliated, to upset to even to think about anything. First, his parents, gone by Voldemort, then Lily, his best and closest friend, gone by Potter. He knew Dumbledore tried his hardest to help him, but he just couldn't let him. He couldn't take it.

He cared for Dumbledore, he really did. And he knew that Dumbledore felt the same. He just couldn't take it that day. However, as the years went on, he did grow closer to the headmaster. He let part of him into his heart, tearing away some of the cage, not all of it though.

Dumbledore is like a father to him. So why is he doing this? Why did he agree to this? Dumbledore is the only one he really cared for, after Lily. Dumbledore did his best to raise him to the man he is now. So, why is he doing this? Why is he following Voldemort's orders? Why did he agree to this? Voldemort killed his parents. Now he's asking for Dumbledore's death.

He didn't directly ask him, he asked Malfoy, but he is frozen in fear of what would happen. Malfoy is a good kid, he knows he is. So why did he step up to do it? Why did he take Malfoy's place?

His heart pounded, his hand wouldn't move. Dumbledore pleaded with Malfoy, to finish the job. Malfoy did nothing. He is loyal to the headmaster but, he didn't want to do it. He cares for him and yet, Dumbledore is standing on the brink of death.

Dumbledore looked at him, a look of forgiveness and kindness in his eyes. Dumbledore is ready to accept his fate. He still couldn't move his hand. How did his adoptive father come to this situation? How could he kill the headmaster? Dumbledore closed his eyes before nodding.

He took a deep breath. Dumbledore was ready. But he wasn't. He would never see him again. He knew that. That's why he couldn't do it. Plus, Potter's son is under his feet at this very moment, ready to protect Dumbledore. But, he had to do this. He took another deep breath, closed his eyes, and exhaled. He opened his eyes and sent a Killing Curse on Dumbledore, causing him to fly out of the window and to the ground below.

He couldn't believe it. He just killed Dumbledore. The headmaster asked for it, but he still didn't want to do it. He was loyal and followed him, but, it felt wrong. A tear rolled down his cheek as he turned from the window and took Malfoy with him. They had to get out of the school.

He sent Malfoy ahead and stayed behind. He walked back towards the window, to see the whole school near Dumbledore, wands raised to the sky. He raised his wand, letting the tears come. He lost another. This is why he never let anyone into his heart. Every time he did, something bad would happen to them.

The light from the wands weakened the clouded figure in the sky, however, it didn't disappear until he raised his wand to the sky as well. He was sad to see Dumbledore go. He was his adoptive father and he really cared for him, and he just killed him. What has become of the Half-Blood Prince?

"I'm sorry, Dumbledore," he said, lowering his wand and catching up with Malfoy. "I'm sorry."
