The Beginning

When Arceus left after the Pokémon world was first created, the Pokémon that appeared afterward weren't quite Pokémon yet. The creatures that eventually were called Pokémon were regular creatures that didn't have types such as Dark, Psychic, Fairy, or Ghost.

In fact, magic existed in the natural world, affecting the creatures that roamed the world. The prehistoric creatures didn't have much magical compatibility, but eventually as that age ended, creatures turned into Pokémon after living in a world saturated by magic, giving them those mystical types.

As time went on and the creatures aged, they passed on the magic they gathered from their surroundings, and the process allowed special attacks to be created. Attacks that weren't based on physical damage or the creatures' features are primarily made of magic that reacted to the Pokémon's needs.

When Humans first came around, they were curiously able to use magic, and the first people who interacted with Pokémon were able to tame them.

Unfortunately, the magic that humans possessed grew weaker as their children were born, separating into completely ordinary humans, ones with psychic abilities, and those with the power to generate and sense aura.

Rarely, every few generations of humans, one or two will express the powers that the early humans could have, and magic would be reborn in them. A child of such human were not guaranteed to have magic, and even if a psychic and aura user had one, they would never create magical offspring.

The humans born with magic were typically able to generate their own aura, which allowed them to communicate with Pokémon.

Some say the first humans that had magic were eventually turned into ghost Pokémon, creating a new type.

Fairy types were thought to be extinct until recent years.

Dark Pokémon and Psychic types are incompatible.

Dark types were essentially immune to psychic abilities, through an evolutionary train, an in turn are immune to magic, since psychic abilities are typically special moves. Since psychic moves are special, Dark type moves are generally physical. It created a balance in typing.

As such, only a handful of humans are born every few generations with magic. Most pass it off as just psychic, hiding their 'unnatural' abilities. These humans felt closer to Pokémon than other human beings, which causes most of them to never marry. Magical humans are less likely to stay in cities, sticking to the countryside or the forest.

It also caused them to become more protective of Pokémon than their fellow humans. To Pokémon, magical humans are their best friends. Towards other humans, magical humans are sociopaths, holding a natural difficulty connecting with them.

Since Dark type Pokémon weren't affected by magic, these humans tended to have an affinity for them, knowing that their magic wouldn't work on them without an intervention with Miracle Eye. It allowed a sense of comfort that they wouldn't accidentally kill their Pokémon if they lost control of their magic.

Most of the land had lost its magical power by then, with living creatures the sole user of magic.

Name: Annabell Evelyn Ride

Annabell was born to Sheryl and Marin Ride, two active Pokémon battlers, Sheryl a native Unovian, and Marin a native Kalosian. Four years after Anna was born, her parents decided to go on a trip to the Kanto Region, leaving the girl in the care of her Uncle. Whilst in Kanto, both of them were assaulted by Team Rocket Executive Archer and were killed for protecting their Pokémon.

Since then, Anna stayed with her Uncle in Sinnoh, who had never married and instead ran a Pokémon daycare center in the outskirts of Canalave City. He allowed the girl to take care of newly hatched and baby Pokémon at a young age, and her natural affinity for Pokémon was supplemented by her budding magical core.

The Library was the girl's second favorite place after the Daycare. She eventually learned about magic after finding a book in the library another magical human had cast a charm that only allowed people with magic to see it, let alone open it or read it.

The book explained why other people couldn't identify the book, compelled to see the book as something that had always belonged to the Library. It went into depth about the writer's magical theory, handwritten notes that had amassed over their life. The book was charmed to also gather new information that they researched, planting copies of the book all over the region and the world.

Anna would read that book religiously, taking in new information about her rare abilities. She learned to accept her power, and whenever she would explore the routes around the city, she would interact with wild Pokémon and freely used her magic when she could.

As a young girl, she and her Uncle would travel to different regions to see Pokémon Tournaments and Contests in the summers. As a result, she had to learn different languages.

Her first Pokémon journey was in Sinnoh at the age 11, taking the long way around the region, taking a Pokédex and practicing magic and Pokémon battling, eventually becoming part of the Top 5 in the Sinnoh League's Tournament.

Most of the Pokémon were hatched at her Uncle's daycare, namely eggs that had been left behind by traveling trainers. Among these Pokémon was a Riolu, Pichu and a Poochyena.

While traveling the region, she'd typically find herself rescuing Pokémon from poachers and Pokémon traffickers, and her Uncle took care of Pokémon that were able to interact with humans without aggression, while Anna carried those who only trusted her.

This led to Professor Rowan allowing her to keep a pokéball case full of Pokémon she rescued, letting her rehabilitate them as she went along.

After the tournament, she traveled to Kanto, acquiring a Charmander from Professor Oak. After facing off against Lance in a Tournament, she eventually defeated his dragons, although she gave the best fight she could, her Charizard narrowly defeated his Dragonite with a well-timed Rock Slide. After that, she explored Johto, which connected to Kanto through a route.

One day, while visiting Ecruteak City, she and her main Pokémon spotted Ho-Oh through a cloudy sky, mesmerized by the rainbow the Pokémon gave off. She climbed up Tin Tower, striving to come closer to the Legendary Pokémon, seeing once more when she reached the peak, then it flew off into the clouds.

The encounter gave her a new hope that she will eventually accomplish her dream of protecting the Pokémon that needed help, and drove her to fight against Team Rocket, the same people who took her parents before she could remember them.

The next stop was Hoenn, then Unova. Each region took about two years, with a two month gap between them to break up more trafficking rings, and she returned to Sinnoh at the age of 20.

As a side job, she gathered more information about the habits of the Pokémon she saved, writing as a junior researcher as a hobby.

It led to the interests of the Pokémon Professors, and many times she was asked to carry eggs to observe them.

Anna's Pokémon journey made her withdrawn from other people, seeing as she was frequently alone, only her Pokémon as company for a big part of her adolescent life.

Until the rise of Team Galactic.
