Jack had her. If he wanted, he could take her back to the cabin. He could make love to her on the rug by the fire like he always wanted. He could soak with her in the hot tub, massaging her neck and shoulders. And after, he could go down on her; he could taste her, something he'd craved since she left him. But that wasn't the plan. Not yet. Today wasn't about him or his needs, it was about Kate.

"The other night, why didn't you make a move?" Kate said softly when they were alone in the car.

"I wouldn't have stopped, even when Spencer came home. Why didn't you make a move?" A sly smile crept over his face. When Kate had a few drinks she was far likelier to let her guard down and he wanted to take full advantage of the honest conversation.

"It wouldn't have just been sex; we would have made love and that just complicates it," she shrugged.

Kate leaned forward, looking up through the car window at the restaurant in front of them. "Mexican food?" She asked, tilting her head in confusion. "I thought you were taking me back to your cabin…"

"Not yet."

Suddenly Kate noticed the sign. CALIFORNIA'S BEST CALIFORNIA BURRITO. "To make me a true Californian?" She teased.

After the rescue when Kate had decided to stay in California Jack told her that she wasn't a true Californian until she had a true California burrito. She had turned down his invitation at the time, not realizing he was asking her on a date. It had become a running joke between the two.

"When you get married, you're really settling down," Jack began. You're building roots in California. It's time to become a true Californian," he chuckled. "Plus, you could use some food to soak up all that alcohol."

Jack was right; the burrito was the best thing she'd eaten in a while.

"This entire night… I can't thank you enough. I don't know how you planned all this at the last minute."

"Oh, this wasn't last minute. Sun doesn't know much about planning an American bachelorette party," he shrugged. "So I planned it all when it was our wedding," he said sadly.

"I think you love me more than anyone ever has," she admitted, her mind spinning.

"Why are you going through with this?" Jack asked softly. "Why are you marrying him?"

"Let's go back to the cabin, hmm?" She asked softly. Jack saw the sadness and pain in her eyes. He suddenly realized that whatever was connecting her to Spencer wasn't love. And he was going to get to the bottom of it. And fast.

"Why are you in such a rush to leave?" He asked, sensing her sudden discomfort.

She leaned across the table, the bar lights flickering against her green eyes, hypnotizing him. "We're adults," she breathed. "And you're plying me with alcohol so you can get answers." She raised her beer and took a swig, emphasizing her point. "That's the thing about you, Jack. It's never been about sex."

"Not even once," he agreed, taking a gulp of his beer.

"Feel official?" He asked when she was finished. She could only eat half of one but he knew she didn't usually eat much.

"I feel stuffed," she leaned back against the booth. When she moved her hand, Jack yanked it instantly.

"What is this?" He demanded. On Kate's dainty finger wasn't the massive diamond that Spencer had given her. It was Jack's ring. Jack's perfectly sized princess cut ring.

"It's nothing," Kate shrugged. "I didn't want to lose the ring Spencer gave me."

"Kate," Jack pushed, wanting the truth.

"I like this ring better," she said defensively. "The other ring, Spencer's ring…"

"It's not you. He doesn't really know you."

"Maybe just not the way you know me. Are you ready to head out?"

Outside, Jack grabbed a stick of gum from his pocket and silently offered one to Kate.

"Trying to tell me something?" She teased, accepting the gum.

"Being prepared."

"Prepared for what?" She seemed almost amused by his antics and he wondered if it was really only due to alcohol or if she was just enjoying their time together.

Rather than answer, he grabbed her and kissed her deeply. His hands got tangled in her hair, grabbing fistfuls of curls as the smell of her shampoo invaded his senses. He loved that smell. He loved showering with her. He loved her. When she kissed him back he dipped her as he kissed her in between the parked cars at the restaurant.
