JENNIE

After the weekend I had with Lisa, she had me feeling like I was on cloud nine, and as I walked into work with a smile on my face, that smile slowly dissipated after Katie, the receptionist, looked at me with a panicked look on her face.

"Kendal is on a rampage this morning. Watch out," Katie whispered while covering the speaker part of the phone.

I leaned over the counter, and with a curious look, I whispered, "Why?"

Katie shrugged, then handed me my schedule for the day.

Thank you, I mouthed to Katie before walking away. As I walked into the room to set up for my first client, I immediately turned on some relaxing music, then set the temperature, lit the scented candles, then laid the linen on the table. Curious to see if my client was here, I opened the door, and as I stepped out, I bumped into Kendal.

Kendal had a scowled look on her face and eyes, looking like they were ready to kill anyone who crossed her path.

"Good morning, Kendal, You're not looking the greatest. Maybe you should take the day off and go home to relax?"

Her eyes narrowed, and stared at me for what felt like forever; then she looked down at her phone without saying a word and typed something.

"Seriously, Kendal. I can take over your clients today. A couple of my clients had rescheduled with a couple of others who had canceled."

"That won't be necessary," Kendal hissed as she placed her phone in her back pocket. "I only have two clients this morning; then, around noon, I have to meet with my wife for lunch. Then when I get back, I'll be preparing for our wellness convention and dinner we're having this weekend."

I tried...

"Well, have a good day, then," I smiled as I started walking away, then I felt her hand on my shoulder, stopping me.

"You haven't forgotten about this weekend, have you?"

I shook my head, "No. I haven't forgotten."

Kendal wickedly smiled. "Good! Then you'll finally get to meet the one guy I'd like to strangle right now-my wife."

LISA

"Kendal has been calling all morning," Sorn, my assistant, warned as I walked in the door.

"Thank you, Sorn" I sighed as I continued walking past.

"Is everything okay?"

"Eventually, everything will be okay," I mumbled.

As I walked into my office and shut the door, I stood against it, leaned my head back, and sighed. This past weekend couldn't have been more perfect, and it's fucking killing me knowing what I'm doing is wrong. I lowered my head and reached inside my jacket pocket, removing my phone as I walked over to my desk. As I sat, I called Kendal.

"Lisa? Where the hell have you been all weekend?" She answered, screaming.

With my elbow on my desk, I lowered my head in my hand, closed my eyes, and groaned, "I was with friends on Saturday, and yesterday I drove up to my parents' cabin to do some things."

"And you couldn't bring me up there with you? What the fuck Lisa?" Kendal yelled, causing me to hold the phone out from my ear.

I leaned back in my chair, raked my fingers through my hair, then grabbed and pulled. "We can talk about this at lunch," I snapped, "I'm a little busy and don't have time to argue with you. Not to mention, I don't feel like getting yelled at while I'm at work."

"If you don't like getting yelled at, maybe you should think about what you do before you do it, knowing it'll piss me off."

"Everything pisses you off, Kendal. Nothing I do is ever right, and it's been that way for a long fucking time. Hell, you've been yelling at me since the day we married... You know what?" I growled, then paused. "Nevermind. We can discuss this later. I've got to go."

Without hearing her response, I hung up, threw my phone on the desk, then looked at the files Sorn placed on my desk. As I opened the files, my eyes widened, and the corners of my lips raised after seeing there were a couple of potential buyers wanting to set up a time to look at two of my most profitable properties listed for sale. I picked up the files and headed out to see Sorn, handing them to her as I approached. "Can you call the sellers as well as the potential buyer to set up a showing time for me?"

"I can do that," Sorn smiled, taking the files from my hand.

"You're the best," I winked.

"Did you call your crazy wife back, or am I going to have to deal with her calling all day?"

"Yes. I called Kendal back," I sighed, "Hopefully, what I had to say to her was enough for her not to call and pester you for the rest of the day," I said as the phone rang.

Sorn's eyes rolled up to mine as she held onto the phone and lowered her brows. "How much would you like to wager that this is Kendal?"

I chuckled, "If it's her, I owe you a day at the spa, or whatever else you'd prefer," I grinned.

Sorn answered the phone, covered the mouth of the phone, and grinned while whispering, "I'll take a day at the spa."

Ugh... Damn her...

"It's for you," Sorn mockingly smiled, trying to hand me the phone.

"Tell her I'll call her back in a minute," I instructed, pushing the phone back towards her.

As Sorn hung up the phone, her eyes remained glued to mine, then repeatedly pointed her finger at me. "You need to call her back immediately; she claims it's important. And if you don't tell her to quit calling, I'm putting in my resignation. I cannot handle this woman anymore."

"I'll tell her again," I said, pushing myself away from her desk. "Oh, and Sorn, Please don't quit on me. If you promise not to quit on me, instead of having one day at the spa, would an entire weekend at the spa sound better?"

She may have shrugged her shoulder, showing that wasn't enough for her, but I know Sorn. I noticed the smile that she tried hiding behind that frown and knew she was okay with my counter offer. I picked up my phone as I sat at my desk and messaged Kendal.

To[Kens]

Please, quit calling my office the way you are. You're driving Sorn nuts, not to mention, you're driving me nuts. I already told you I would meet you for lunch. Whatever you need to say on the phone can be said at lunch.

Fr[Kens]

Fine, I'll quit calling, but the reason I called back was you never told me where I'm supposed to meet you for lunch.

To[Kens]

Valencia Café.

KENDAL

While driving to the café, I couldn't stop thinking about everything that has been going on between Lisa and me ever since we married three years ago, and how this past year has been for us ran through my mind. I didn't know what to think or how to feel anymore. And as I thought about everything I wanted to say to Lisa, the only thing I didn't know how to bring up or how to ask was if she was out having an affair.

I didn't see Lisa sitting at any of the tables, then looked at my watch. She's late... "Can I help you?" The waitress asked.

"Lunch for two, please."

"Right this way," she said, grabbing a couple of menus.

The longer I sat at the table waiting for Lisa to show, the more my heart raced and squirmed, thinking she wasn't coming. I think I read the menu twenty times before Lisa finally sat across from me. "I was beginning to think you were standing me up," I said, lowering the menu.

"I was busy and needed to take care of some things before I left the office," she said sternly, with no smile and with no happy facial expression. Just the look of her not wanting to be anywhere near me as she lifted her menu.

"Like what?"

She lowered the menu and leaned closer to me. "Don't worry about it. Okay? It had everything to do with work, and at the moment, I'm not in the mood to discuss it."

"Fine..." I looked away, giving her a moment to look the menu, and as I watched a happy couple eat their lunch, I quietly asked, "Are you still coming to my work convention this Saturday?"

I looked back at her as she ran her fingers through her hair, looking disappointed, I asked, but then felt a little relieved with her answer as I thought she might have changed her mind. "Yes, I'll be there."

We sat in utter silence until the waitress came by to take our order, and after she left, I continued to feel a bit awkward as she refused to look at me and down at her glass of water. I could see she had something on her mind, and when I asked about it, she responded, "I have a lot on my mind, with a lot on my plate at work."

"Can you at least enlighten me with what's been on your mind? I'm your wife, and when things are bothering you, you should be opening to me."

"Sometimes things are meant to be," she groaned.

I furrowed my brows. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"It means exactly what I said," she said, picking up her glass of water, then looked over the rim of her drink. "Mistakes are made all the time, and I have one big mistake that roams my mind daily and nightly."

My stomach dropped and swallowed hard. "Are you saying that about us? Because lately, it seems like you want nothing to do with me anymore," I quietly said, just as her phone rang.

She looked at her phone and stood. "Excuse me a moment. I need to take this call."

LISA

"Hello?" I quietly answered as I stepped outside.

"Hello, handsome. I was curious if you were available to go out for lunch?"

My lips twisted and I closed my eyes as I rested my forehead against the door, not knowing what to say without having to lie to her.

"I'm sorry, Jennie. I'm already at lunch; maybe later this week, we can go somewhere for lunch."

"Oh, okay. Some other time then?" Jennie said, sounding bummed. "I'll see what I can do later this week. I just knew today was a day where I could leave since my boss wasn't here."

"I promise I'll make it up to you."

"Okay..."

After hanging up with Jennie, I stood outside, staring at the sky for a few minutes, cursing myself out for what I was doing to two women. One who I cared deeply for, and one who has made my last three years miserable to the point where I couldn't even stand looking at her anymore. I turned to the window, saw Kendal staring at me, and heavily sighed. Shit, I better go back in...

"Can I ask you something?" Kendal asked as I sat in my chair.

"Depends on what it is, Kendal."

She reached for my hands and tightly held them in hers while staring me in the eyes. "Do you still love me?"

JENNIE

I was ready to go home for the day, and after finishing with my last client, I walked around the office looking for Kendal, making sure she didn't need my help with anything before I left. She hasn't been in the greatest mood lately, and the last thing I need to do is piss her off even more.

"Have you seen Kendal?" I asked Katie.

"Last, I knew she was in her office."

"I was just there knocking; she never answered." "She didn't look happy when she came back from lunch."

Hmm... "Okay, thanks."

I walked back to Kendal's office, and instead of knocking, I slowly opened the door and peeked my head through the crack of the door. "Kendal?" I asked when I saw the back of her chair facing me. "I'm about to head home for the day, but before I did that, I figured I'd see if you needed me for anything before I left."

Her chair slowly turned around, and as her eyes met mine, I could tell she had been thinking hard about something.

"Is everything okay?"

"Sure... You are going to be at the convention this Saturday, correct?

I nodded. "Yes. Did you need help with something?" Would it be too much to ask if I were to ask that you take these files home and prepare the presentations for me?"

I walked to her desk, reached for the files she had in hand, and scanned through them. "I'm sure I can have them ready for you by Friday."

"Thank you. It would be a huge help. My issues at home haven't gotten any better, and I'm not sure my mind will think like it should. be while preparing them."

It felt weird that Kendal was having me prepare for something she knew more about, but since I asked if she needed my help, I better do it. I was still feeling a bit bummed that I couldn't see Lisa at lunch, but that feeling quickly went away the moment I stuck my key in the lock, and the door to my apartment swung open, with a pair of arms pulling me inside. I was just getting ready to scream but was then silenced by a woman's mouth. Lisa's mouth.

I pushed her away and snapped. "Damn it, Lisa! You scared the living shit out of me! I thought a kidnapper got inside my apartment!"

She chuckled the lowered her lips to mine. "I'm sorry. I never meant to scare you. I only meant to surprise you."

"What are you doing here, anyway?"

"I felt bad about lunch and wanted to make it up to you. So, I decided to come here to surprise you with dinner," Lisa smiled, brushing my hair behind me.

I peeked over her shoulder, saw the table set, wine poured, then a strong aroma of the food she was cooking hit my senses, making my stomach growl. "Wow, Babe," I said in awe, looking back at her. "Whatever you're cooking, it smells amazing. And the setting you've done is damn near perfect."

She ran her hand up my back, through my hair, cupped the back of my bead, and pulled me in for a deep and very passionate kiss that had my clit pulsating and swelling.

"Why don't you sit at the table. Food is done," she breathed as she parted from my lips.

This was the first time any woman/man had not only surprised me the way Lisa did but cooked me a romantic meal, and as Lisa placed the plate down in front of me, I melted. Not only did the food smell wonderful, but my mouth watered as I looked at what she cooked. It looked fucking delicious. "Wow, Babe, I'm speechless. I don't know what to say."

"I hope you'll like it. Chicken Marsala is one of my specialties."

"I'm sure I will," I said, licking my lips and covering my lap with my napkin.

My eyes closed as I took the first bite. The food nearly melted in my mouth, and as I opened my eyes, I smiled after seeing Lisa staring and smiling at me.

"What do you think?"

"It's very, very good. I can't even remember the last time I enjoyed a meal like this," I hummed. Ever since I met this woman, she's always gone out of her way to surprise and romance me. And I loved it. "You can cook for me anytime..."

"Soon," I heard her say quietly.

I wasn't sure what she meant by that and was about to ask but decided not to. It seems like any time I ask about our future, there's some sort of an excuse, and after what she did tonight, I didn't feel like fighting with her. While I was washing the dishes, Lisa came up from behind me, wrapped her arms around my stomach, and started kissing and nibbling on my neck.

"I got the tub all ready for us. I figured we could end the night by soaking in the tub, making a little love, then go all out and fuck each other's brains out. Sound good to you?"

The tone in her voice, the way she was kissing my neck, and the way she was touching me had my heart fluttering, the wings of the butterflies tickling the walls of my stomach, and my inner core on fire. As if someone lit a match inside me.

I turned around and crawled up her body like a wild cat, devouring her mouth as if she were my last meal. "You're the best thing that has ever happened to me. Thank you for everything you've done tonight," I moaned. "Please stay the night..."
