What exactly did he say?" Kate demanded as she stormed into the kitchen.
"I told you," Jack said softly.
"I want to hear it again." Her tone was strong but he knew that was just a facade. She was hurting. He watched her flinch and wince as he repeated every hateful word Spencer had spewed.
"How could he do that to Aaron? It would ruin his life!"
"How could he do this to you, Kate!" Jack shouted. "Why aren't you upset about what he's doing to you? You deserve better!"
"Jack," Kate sighed, trying to put into words how she felt.
"Listen to me," Jack interrupted "if you promise to end things with Spencer, I promise you I'll leave you alone."
"What?"
"I'm still going to be in Aaron's life but I'll stop trying to win you back. I'll stop toying with you. I'll just be a co-parent. I'll accept that it's over." He put his hand up as he swore to uphold his promises.
"You're serious," she realized. "Why? Why are you doing all this… going so far…"
"Because I love you."
Kate's mind went back to that day on the island. He had defended Sawyer and when she asked him why he said because he loved her. It was so honest that it caught her off guard. His words had left her breathless and thinking of Jack more than Sawyer.
Kate moved to him, her lips crashing against his. Her tongue skimmed over his lower lip, pleading for entry. He grabbed the back of her head, pulling her closer as his tongue joined hers. He exhaled her soft moans as she pulled his body until it was pressed tightly against hers.
"What's going on?" He asked, pulling away. He wanted her but he didn't want to be an impulse for her.
"Just love me," she begged, her fingers curling around his belt loops. "And, Jack? Don't stop trying to win me back," she pleaded.
Jack couldn't hide his smile. He didn't know how long it would take and he didn't know what it would take but he knew he'd win her back. She wanted him but was going to make him work for it. That was all the encouragement he needed.
The end.
