The world of Randis was one much like our own. It orbited a sun and had a moon approximately the same size as ours. However, it's land was not separated into multiple continents. Instead, it was one mega continent like Pangaea. It had multiple lands consisting of deserts, forests, mountains, glacial tundras, and wastelands.

Each land had its own form of government and all of them were hellbent on expansion. After all, the mega continent was still not fully explored. Humans were the most populated race on the continent, surpassing the second and third most populous races the elves and dwarves combined by over ten times. However, such things are for later.

On the north west lands near the middle of the continent stood a massive city that if one was generous it could be described as a small nation in itself. It stretched for over one hundred miles in every direction away from the center. It held countless castles and manors within it's massive walls.

Around it were the lands owned by nobles that wished to not live in a busy city. They had various responsibilities involving overlooking and managing the massive farms, croplands, and standing military beyond the city. The city was known as Whitehaven.

It's major districts and royal districts were made of precious white stone that shown in the sun, illuminating the districts along with being visible from leagues away, It's white hue shining like a crystal across the land. It was the capital of the nation it stood in, Sidora.

What you have just read was the setting of most of the story you are about to read. Allow me to make a late introduction for myself. My name is James Ward, an American man living in Raleigh North Carolina. I don't have much of a story to tell you. My life has been a normal life for someone living in America. I own a small two bedroom house and own a grocery store a mile away from home. I've lived a quiet life, never going out of my way to rock the boat and today was no different.

So why then am I in such an absurd situation?

Well, let's go back to last night. I was going through my old possessions from my childhood after feeling a bit of nostalgia. I had taken the two boxes from my closet where the most important childhood trinkets and baubles I cherish were kept. Placing them on the Gray carpet and opening the top, I was greeted by the old smell of paper and folders.

I was a big fan of Dungeons and Dragons in my younger years, still enjoying it to this day. However, life had taken my free time away. My work and social life took away all of my time. That and I didn't want to drive twenty miles to go to the nearest meetup for the game.

I gently and carefully took out the papers consisting of the first campaign I DMed. It involved a fifth level party heading to Whitehaven to investigate a city nobles stolen property. We were recommended by a family member of the noble house and were called in. It was a rather complicated journey as at the time, I was an overachiever. Also, since it was My first campaign, I wanted to make it as cool and deep as I could.

Oh how I pity my younger self.

There certainly was cool ideas that I placed in the campaign, however, I made everything way too black and white. The bad guys were bad for the sake of being bad, and the good guys were the typical obnoxiously goody two shoes white knights that you could see coming from a league away.

Anyways, I looked through the papers, laughing and sometimes cringing at what was written. I was much more of an idealistic person as a kid.

The campaign was fairly railroady for what it was. A brief summary was that the party was traveling back to Whitehaven from an adventure, when they passed through a rather affluent out of city nobles territory. It was the Brendt Estate. Margrave John Brendt was a very rich and important noble outside of the city. He had a sizable military force and owned a large area outside of the city wich consisted of many farming villages.

He was a competent ruler of his land and was respected in and out of his estate. However, his son was an arrogant drunk that bullied and abused anyone he came across. He was loud and crass and would bully people with his status. All and all, he was a trash. However, for some reason, his father and mother loved him deeply no matter what he did.

As such, he came across the party that was traveling through the territory and picked a fight with them. Needless to say, he got killed before the party, who were essentially the Main characters in the world continued on to the city never to be seen again or punished for their actions.

Next, the party entered the city at the entrance closest to the noble house that hired them. Then the party went on a poorly made detective mystery to find out that the house they had been feuding with had committed a series of crimes against them and the party doled out vigilante justice unimpeded.

All in all it was the product of a deluded amateur who bit off more than he could chew.

I continued to go through my my younger selfs most important things before putting everything away, then fixing myself a late meal before taking a shower and going to sleep. I was not prepared for what I awoke to.
