With a gasp, the woman's eyes snapped open. Chest heaving in breaths, she noted her position. Her hands and knees were touching cold asphalt. Black dots littered the edges of her vision as she fought to steady her breathing. Her lungs filled with cold air and she exhaled.

Where was she?

It was dark, that much she could tell. Streetlamps illuminated the streets allowing for her to see a couple feet in front of her. She seemed to be in an alley. The end of it leading out to the streets. It took the woman a couple of minutes. Probably around ten minutes or so passed before her legs felt strong enough to try to stand up. The streets were mostly empty as she could see as she leaned her head against the wall behind her.

'Breath.' She thought, as she forced herself to start moving. Legs aching in protest with each step that she took and she leaned against the wall with each seemed like she was in New York? And near Time Square to be more precise. The skyline was the same as in the pictures. Twinkling lights filled her vision. The streets were not as empty as they seemed. Though it was late, there were people milling around.

In any other circumstance she would have been happy to be in New York.

This was not one of them.

Brown eyes widened slightly as she exhaled a breath, and a curse slipped her lips. How the fuck was she in New York? The last thing that she remembered was being in Phoenix, in her apartment. It had been another late night at work, the bar usually opened until two in the morning. She was the partial owner of the bar, having opened it with her best friend a couple months after she turned twenty one.

Now she was in New York?

She scoffed, pushing a hand through slightly tangled black hair. A couple more steps had her in front of a news stand and she grabbed a paper.

Today is November 5th 2012. The top of the paper read in bold black letters.

Wait.

At least why she was shivering, only clad in a tank top and sweatpants. Her hands rubbed against her arms to try to gain some warmth into them.

The paper slipped from her hands, landing silently on the ground. She gaped, lips trying to form words and mind spinning. How did she end up a whole decade in the past? Surely this had to be a dream. Or maybe she even reality shifted.

No.

Something told her that this was real.

Oh so very real.

Still fighting the dizzy spell from somehow landing in the past, she didn't find herself surprised when she saw the black dots again. She swayed on her feet, stumbling a couple steps. Her breathing deepened as she fought against the impending action.

'Ma'am? Are you okay?" The voice sounded so familiar. Before she could place her finger on it, her knees gave out and everything went dark once more. She didn't even know that the man had caught her falling figure before it hit the sidewalk.
