Making Auntie Max Fly
It wasn't exactly a typical day for Lucas Sinclair and his fiancee Max Mayfield. The twenty year old biracial couple were currently babysitting for their friends, Mike and El Wheeler, with Lucas currently cradling the ten month baby girl that they had called Terry Wheeler. She had mostly taken after Mike in appearance that was clear but there was no mistaking her eyes had been inherited from El. It was then Max entered, carrying Terry's bottle.
"Hey, here we go, let's get Terry fed and get to take a nap." Max said.
Lucas nodded. "Right. Do you want me to-"
Max shook her head. "No, it's fine. Go and fix up the crib and I'll feed her."
"Alright...oh, she might need changing too." Lucas warned.
"Right." Max replied, rolling her eyes. "You were just waiting for that, weren't you?"
Lucas just laughed but let Max take Terry and headed through to fix up the crib to ensure it was comfortable for Terry. As he did so and got to work he smiled lightly, reflecting.
'Wow, it's amazing how much things have changed, after all this time…' He thought to himself. 'Mike and El especially, they've come so far, married, parents now. It was hard for them, tricky. But...they're doing great. We're all happy too, I wonder…'
He had just finished setting things up and his thoughts trailed off.
That was when it happened, he started when he heard a loud yelp from the other room and turned quickly. In the split second he did so all the dangers they had all faced over the years flitted through his mind, he therefore didn't even stop and rushed through only to stop and then start laughing.
Max glowered at him. "For God sake Lucas, stop laughing and get me down."
The reason behind Max's demands and his laughter was simple. Terry was lying on the changing table, giggling, hand raised up to Max, who was currently levitating in the air. Still laughing Lucas hurried over and managed to get to Max before Terry put her hand down, managing to catch her although they both stumbled by that.
"Oof, you okay?" Lucas queried as he helped her straighten up.
Standing again, Max grumbled. "Yeah, fine...urgh, wasn't expecting this."
Lucas nodded slowly. "Hmmm, maybe we should have been. Nevertheless...want me to finish changing her?"
"I'll deal with it." Max insisted. "Then you can feed her and get her to sleep."
Lucas nodded as Max returned to her task, he thought for a moment.
"Of course, it's obvious now what this means, huh?" He remarked.
Max let out a slow breath, biting her lip. "Yeah...It looks like Terry has inherited El's powers too."
Lucas pondered for a moment. "Of course, we're gonna have to tell Mike and El about this when they get back."
"Yeah, true." Max agreed as she finished.
They both looked down at Terry at that moment, the infant giggling and babbling up at them, seemingly oblivious to the stir she had caused.
Lucas picked up Terry and began to feed her, he and Max shared a look, then Max smiled.
"Of course, there's one key difference here. Terry's life isn't going to be anything like what El's was." She remarked.
Lucas nodded in agreement. "Yeah, exactly, they'll make sure it isn't. We'll all make sure of it, we'll all make sure she has the happiest life possible."
Max grinned at that, fully agreeing with him as they finished feeding Terry and began preparing her for her nap. It would make an interesting conversation, not just with Mike and El, but all the others too. But they knew the others would feel the same and that together, they'd ensure that this revelation would not be something that would cause problems for Terry, that she'd be happy, no matter what.
