Chapter 2- TeruTeru: Cooking up an apology

Nagito spent a whole day in his cottage and now he was ready to leave. He had been stuck in his own dangerous mind and he needed someone to interact with him or he was gonna go insane. He closed his door then suddenly he heard another. He swung his head to see Hajime looking his way. The talentless one's face light up as he rushed over. "Nagito! How are you feeling!? Is your hand any better?" Nagito opened his mouth but nothing came out. Hajime's worry grew, "Do you need to see Mikan?" The lucky one softly smiled, as he looked for response in his head. "No, I'm quite alright. I've just been alone for too long."

Hajime sighed in relief, "Sorry, I did come by yesterday but you didn't answer." He explained as they began to walk towards the restaurant. "I must have been asleep. I would have loved your company." Nagito gave a nervous smile as they walked up the stairs. He didn't know how everyone would react, but when they entered he was greeted with warm smiles from everyone. All the students but Fuyuhiko and TeruTeru were present. "It's good to see you up and about." Byakuya smirked. "I'm sorry I didn't check up on you! You wouldn't open your door so I gave you your space!" Mikan was tearing up with each word. Nagito gave her a soft smile, "No worries Mikan, I appreciate the effort." Everyone voiced their concerns and Nagito was happy to answer everyone calmly. They all sat and ate together making it easier for Nagito to notice the two empty seats. "Hey Byakuya." He called to the Prodigy besides him. He stopped shoving food in his mouth to give a slight hum in response, so Nagito continued. "I understand why Fuyuhiko isn't here but where is TeruTeru?" The larger student clears his throat and placed his meal down. "We decided to tie him up. He was the one who attacked you during the party after all."

Nagito scratched his head nervously, "Well has he eaten anything? I wouldn't mind bringing him something..."

Mahiru stood up and slammed her hands into the table, "But he tried to kill you! How could you be so kind?"

Nagtio smiled, "Because he is still a person, and one of us. Plus if we let him starve would that make us any better?" A gentle hand touched his shoulder, he looked up to see Hajime. "Nagito is right, even if we can't forgive him so easily, that doesn't mean we abandon him." A hint of red spread across the lucky student's face as he got up and prepared a plate for the prisoner. Hajime took over the conversation as Nagito slipped away.

"What are you doing here?" The cook spat as Nagito entered the party room. "I brought you breakfast!" He chimed, setting down the toast and eggs. "I don't want anything from you." TeruTeru growled and turned away. Nagito's smile faded as he sat relatively close with his legs folded. "I-I'm sorry I led you on. You were only trying to help the people you cared about." Nagito started as the cook began to tense up. Nagito continued, "I thought maybe if I couldn't kill myself you could, I should have just told you that from the beginning."

TeruTeru barely moved his head, "You were going to kill yourself?"

Nagito gave a sad chuckle, "I wouldn't have been able to target someone else in that darkness. I'm surprised you were able to spot me."

"I used the glowing paint." TeruTeru said as he turned to look at the other with concern. "Why kill yourself? You're lucky and good looking, what else could you ask for?"

Nagito looked down and started to fiddle with his fingers. "I thought maybe... my good luck is only as good as the bad luck I endure, so I thought if I died I could help everyone else off the island as my ultimate good luck. My last contribution to my friends."

TeruTeru looked to the ground, "My intentions aren't as pure as you may have thought." A light country twang left the cooks lips as he talked. Nagito looked into the other's eyes as he continued, "Monokuma said we lost our memories, and he could give them back. I needed to know what happened to my mama..." TeruTeru's eyes began to water. "If she knew what I had done..." Tears flooded the ground as the cook began to sob uncontrollably. Nagito reached out and rubbed the cook's shoulder. "Don't cry, no matter what happens we will figure a way back. You will see your mother again." Nagito encouraged him. Hope filled the cook's eyes, gleaming under the tears he shed. Nagito's heart fluttered as he saw the hope rise from the chef. "Chiaki was right. I thought of this all wrong!" Nagito beamed as he untied his new friend. He embraced the now free, sobbing man, who clung onto the fabric of Nagito's jacket. "TeruTeru I'm sorry, will you forgive me?"

TeruTeru straightened himself up and smiled through the tears, "How could I say no to a pretty face like yours? As long as you turn from violence we can be friends, or more if you like." Nagito chuckled, "How about just friends for now. I'm trying to sort out a few feelings."

"Suit yourself, but let me know if you change your mind." He seemed to have calm down as he flirted.

"Will do." They chuckled together as the time continued to pass. A few hope fragments had been collected as they continued to talk. Nagito had never really opened up to anyone before, but if it's for hope then he didn't mind so much.

"Nagito? Are you alright?" A familiar voice came from behind the party door as it swung open. Hajime was in shock to see the two talking and laughing. "Oh hey Hajime! Wanna join us?" Nagito beamed patting besides him. "Ya we won't bite much." TeruTeru teased. Hajime placed his hands on his hips and began to scold the lucky student. "You almost died, and now you're chatting it up with your attacker? You had me worried."

Nagito pull himself off the floor with a smile, "Aw~ you care about me?" TeruTeru watched this eye candy unfold quietly. Hajime looked away as he talked, "Of course I do. We're friends right?"

"Right!" Nagito smiled as he basically fell onto Hajime with an embrace. When they parted they released each other shyly. "Just be careful." Hajime blushed. "I am, come and sit with us? TeruTeru is actually kinda sweet when you get to know him." Nagito said, not noticing the twinge of jealousy the other had. "Sweet? He stabbed you with a skewer!"

"It was a misunderstanding Hajime, we've already forgiven each other."

"A misunderstanding? How is getting stabbed through the floorboards a misunderstanding?"

Nagito began to feel a bit nervous. His fingers began to fidget for he wasn't quite ready to confess his sins. TeruTeru noticed and stood up. He defensively held his arms between the two. "I don't deny it, what I intended was wrong. I wanted to get off this island as fast as possible but now I can see clearly. It was wrong to attack Nagito, and I hope you can someday forgive me for hurting your boyfriend."

Hajime's face began to glow, "Boyfriend?! I think you got us all wrong!" He waved his hands in denial.

Nagito gave a warm smile to the two. ' How did I grow to like them both this fast? I must really care about my classmates, we only just met and I want to talk with them all like this.' He thought as he clenched the fabric that clung to his chest. A warm feeling of joy and hope must have shown through because when he looked up the other two gave him endearing looks. "W-what? I'm just happy I made friends that's all."

"You're practically glowing." TeruTeru teased as Hajime nodded in agreement. Nagito hopped between the two and wrapped his arms around their necks, the height difference made him off balance but he laughed it off, "Well I'll try my best to guide you through the darkness, my friends!"

They all agreed to appear together the next morning. Faces of disgust filled the room as Teruteru entered. "What is he doing loose?" Byakuya questioned, as he glared at the other two. "Please forgive him for his actions." Nagito bowed in respect. Teruteru placed his hand on the lucky one's shoulder. "That's very sweet of you Nagito but I am the one who..."

Nagito looked up with a warm smile first to Teruteru then Byakuya. "We can't keep him tied up forever, plus he makes the best food I've ever eaten." The luck was beginning to win over the prodigy. "It could be like community service. We get the best food and he atones for his actions." Hajime chimed in, and it seemed to help. "If you both think it's a good idea, then I have to agree, but you will have to earn my trust Teruteru. We will all take turns watching you so don't slip up." The prodigy scolded. "Yes sir! I promise to never let you down again!" TeruTeru bowed in respect before sharing warm smiles between his friends.
