Chapter 1: Omega and Alpha
-o-o-o-
This story came to me after reading Road to You by fadedlullabyes and Sasunarufan13's The Long Run. It got me thinking that even though zombie fics are popular in mainstream media, there's not a lot of SasuNaru fics for it. But I don't want to do a traditional zombie fic since there's already a few of them floating around. After rereading World War Z, rewatching all Resident Evil films and some episodes of Shiki, the earlier seasons of Walking Dead and voraciously consuming a lot of old vampire fics, I decided to sit down and this craziness is the result. Of course, I love everything Omegaverse so this will feature that trope as well. Along with soul mates, mating bites, science fiction and more. I hope this piqued your interest. With that said, let's get on with the story.

A pair of azure eyes flashed crimson for a brief second as they surveyed the dusty road ahead of. His hand gripped the collar of his long trench coat, equally dusty yet sufficient to shield him from the scorching sun overhead and the onslaught of dust and grime in front. After biting back his growing fangs, his blurring vision focused once more as a tumbleweed distracted him from the empty hunger that's growing inside.
It had been months since he last fed… separated from his mate who turned him in the chaos of a global pandemic that instantly crippled the world; tearing him from his very home as he knew it.
And he was so hungry… Oh so hungry. His stomach felt like it's on fire as he pressed onwards, knees and legs screaming for much needed rest. Yet his heart could not be silenced, his soul could not find rest despite the growing hunger and weariness taking its toll.
Ever since the Uchiha manor fell, the young vampire hadn't fed, save for the rare deer or bird his agile claws was quick to reach. He sighed as he tried to reign on his hunger. He missed the safety of the walls of the manor, he missed his mate's arms around him and his sinful lips feeding him with fresh blood from human thralls of the village under their care.
He was turned by his mate a year ago, after his illness, threatened to separate them forever. The promise of an unending forever, eternal in the arms of his love led to acceptance of the blessings of eternal undeath. But what was once a blessing, now a cruel curse as their primary source of sustenance, once so abundant as ants in the face of the world, now reduced to hiding scarcity as the dead rose and mercilessly liquidated the human population across the globe.
Now, he's lucky to even eat once a month. Still, he must press on. The throb on his left shoulder tells him that his mate is alive, and calling out for him. And he could not find rest until they are reunited once more.
As he trudged painfully through bumpy road, his keen ears heard the harsh thrumming of a motorcycle. And despite his weary state, he quickly found shelter in a nearby ditch, protected from view by tall brown shrubbery, wilting under the sunny harshness, yet perfect against his brown trench coat.
He watched as the motorcycle stopped on the roadside. And his eyes caught sight of what caught the rider's attention. On the center of the road were three dead corpses, writhing as their legs gave way to decomposition and the heat of the scorching sun.
"Clean-up unit fan out. Secure the area ahead. Begin sanitation sweep." The vampire smiled as the voice reached his ears. A female… Much more sympathetic and maternal perhaps. He watched as the woman continued talking in her headset.
This could play to his advantage.
Willing back the saliva that's dripping down his chin, he retracted his claws and flashed his azure eyes, fangs disappearing and his spiky shoulder length hair, as bright and golden as the sun grew to waist-length, before it became softer and red. His waist and back, muscled and sturdy slowly became slender and more delicate. He took his hood off, opened his trench coat, hissing a bit as the sun burned his exposed skin.
But it only served to make his appearance more pitiful, his gait more shambolic and weak as he approached the woman, who was just about to board her vehicle once more after thrusting her weapon through the skull of the crawling corpses, now long having ceased their movement.
"Help!" He weakly screamed, inwardly smirking as his call gained the woman's attention. He slowly stumbled to her and smirked inwardly. As an omega, he can read people well. And this woman is definitely more on the empathetic side. He can see it in the aura she emitted. But even without that, the slight grimace of her face and the softening of her eyes as she looked at his state is enough to tell him that this human is someone he could use. Whether as food later on or as a guide to their little settlement, he'll take either way.
As it stands, food is of the utmost importance right now. And he'll take one or more humans any day. Besides, her whole appearance indicates she's with a larger group, something that should prove a beneficial blood farm, a concept that have been in short supply since this pandemic started. He can smell her worry and hid a foxy smile. His ruse is working. And it shouldn't be a surprise.
He came from a clan of fox omegas, known in ancient times for their affinity for trickery and playfulness. But in the modern times of cities, science and enlightenment, that knowledge had been lost, derided as myth in the modern time. Now omegas of his type are only valued for their unrivaled potency and fertility, rather than their guile, their irresistible unearthly beauty, their wit and their almost superhuman ability to disguise themselves and cast illusions on unsuspecting humans.
He watched as the woman rushed to him, and tsk'ed to himself. She was either brave to approach him alone or stupid. Yet, he kept his hunger in check. Instead, using his weakness to stumble on his feet, before falling to the ground. But as he predicted, the woman caught him before he fell to the ground.
"Poor thing…" He heard the woman spoke before he felt her sniff at him. "My dear… you are the same as me…"
His eyes widened as he looked at the woman's face and sure enough, now that he had a good look at her, her face is pale, her eyes a pale lavender but her scent is unmistakable.
A pure blood… Just as ancient as Mikoto was, perhaps even more than his mother in law.
"Don't worry, my child, you're in safe hands. Here…" She handed him a blood pack. "Eat. You must be famished." He was curious as to who this woman is, but his hunger was getting the better of him. So he greedily punctured the packet with his fangs that he didn't even knew he exposed and drank. And boy was it heavenly.
The red iron liquid was soothing to his screaming throat, like honey, like menthol candy drenched in ice cold water that caressed his throat deliciously.
"I'm Kaguya… Kaguya Otsutsuki. And who might you be, young one?" She smiled at him, and he was briefly taken a back, knowing that the woman by now should have realized his deception. But he saw no ill-intent from her. Still… it can't hurt to be cautious.
"I'm… Menma… Menma Namikaze…" He lied, as he wiped the last remaining blood from the corner of his lips.
"You've been traveling alone for a while haven't you? Why not come with me, young one?"
Menma eyed the woman suspiciously.
"It's just… it's rare… you and I…. we're the last ones aren't we? It's logical that we both stick together. I have village… one under my clan's protection. You can take your pick of a human thrall and eat to your heart's content. My clan is filled with nothing but burly alphas…. Boneheaded and clumsy and useless. But you… you're different, aren't you, omega?"
He stilled, dumbly nodding as he realized that the jig's up. He was found out long ago. And maybe he can get away with his name but not who he is. This woman is more powerful… far from the naïve woman he saw just mere minutes ago.
"Would you like to come with me, Menma?"
Menma gulped. But there's no other choice is there? What did he get himself into this time? He nodded, dumbfounded that his plan backfired.
"Wonderful. Now rest. I'll wake you up when we reach the Sanctuary. It's not too far from here."
Menma allowed himself to be brought to the motorcycle. The last thing he heard was Kaguya calling someone on the phone.
"My dear, do not question me. This omega is important. We have lost all omega to these mindless walkers." She paused before growing more exasperated this time. "Yes, yes. We might no longer need that… clan after all. The rest of the sanitation team should be done securing this area, be a dear and start the hunt will you? Also, tell Toneri-kun to be at the usual rendezvous please?"
"It doesn't matter what he thinks. The branch family is at our disposal! I have a much more important cargo that needs protection."
She smiled to herself as she looked at the dozing figure on her vehicle. Joining the run this day must have brought fortune to herself.

Dark eyes glared at the man in front of him.
"Why can't I go niisan?"
"Because we finally have this place up and running. Look, the Otsutsuki clan have been demanding more tribute than usual and food is already in short supply. We need you here."
"But my mate…"
"Deidara and the Konoha people are on it. But you should know that…"
"That what? That I'm stuck here and they're out there?"
"Look Sasuke… the Southern wall would have been breached without you there. Try to understand."
Sasuke glared as he clutched the mark on his right shoulder. It had been throbbing now, so much harder and more intensely these past few days.
"Itachi… please… He's out there… He's calling for me…"
"I know, Sasuke, but bear with it for a little while longer… please?" Sasuke frowned as Itachi's eyes softened. It's rare that his big brother would beg him. And he understand that the camp is not in its best of shape at the moment but the alpha within him rages. It had been months since he was separated from his mate now.
"Naruto…" He whispered as he slumped to his chair. "If only you weren't so stubborn."
Itachi looked at his younger brother sympathetically. He knew of the circumstances how the omega was separated from them. After their compound was breached by the dead, the clan took off to the far north, abandoning Konoha, the village under their protection in the chaos of the outbreak, which saw the humans underneath their estate overrun with the voracious dead; their hunger uncontrolled unlike the vampires that once protected them.
But as the outbreak raged, his brother's mate stubbornly refused the order to evacuate, choosing instead to protect what little he could, remained in Konoha and stubbornly chastised the Uchiha clan for their cowardice.
Itachi could remember defiant shades of blue turning crimson as Naruto lashed out at them.
"You're just going to leave them? After you fed on them for years? I was one of them a few months ago! Those people were my friends. And I won't leave them!"
Itachi later received word that Konoha survived, thanks to Naruto's help. But in the confusion, they found out that Naruto disappeared as the whole village was evacuated South after the gates that protected them was finally overrun. No one knew what became of him as the humans have no means of tracking vampires, can't smell their unique scent the way that other vampires do.
"I should have been there niisan… I shouldn't have let him go…"
Itachi placed a comforting hand on Sasuke's shoulder, aware of the throbbing mark there.
"I know Sasuke. But you were also making sure that our people got out safely. You did what you could and he did his. But we'll find him. Naruto-kun always has ways of surprising us."
"I hope so, Niisan. Because if not, I swear I'll leave and find him on my own."
"Just give them a few more days, Sasuke. That's all I ask. We need you here more."
"Alright, Itachi." Itachi frowned, Sasuke has become more cold and serious all of the sudden, the man flicking away his hand. "But make no mistake, my patience is running short."
Sasuke stood up and left his brother's office. Not sparing the man a single glance. He can understand Itachi's concern. The clan comes first. But so does his mate. And he resolved to find him soon. He swear on it.

A/N: My apologies for the lack of updates on my end. I'll definitely update the other stories soon. This one was just itching to be written. So don't expect this one to be updated soon. I just want to get this out of my system before the idea fades from my head.
